She was forced to flee the country under Taliban control in 2022 and now lives in Germany, where she continues her work.</p> <p>In this interview she highlights the 'gender apartheid' that exists in Afghanistan, which has some of the most severe restrictions on women's rights in the world - among other things, girls can no longer attend secondary school and women are are banned from entire sectors of employment. They are also severely limited in where they may be in public without a male chaperone.
