<A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Ye are scrupulously observing days, and months, and seasons, and years! <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>I am afraid of you, lest by any means I have toiled for you in vain.<p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Brethren, I beseech you, become as I <i>am</i>; because I also <i>was</i> as ye <i>are</i>. Ye wronged me in nothing; <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>but ye know that through weakness of the flesh I proclaimed the Gospel to you formerly; <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>and my trial in my flesh ye despised not, nor spurned; but ye received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Where, then, is your benedictions <i>for me?</i> For I bear you witness that, if possible, plucking out your eyes, ye would have given <i>them</i> to me! <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>So, then, have I become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>They are zealously seeking you, not nobly; they are wishing to shut you out, that ye may zealously seek them. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>But <i>it is</i> good to be zealously sought in a good thing at all times, and not only when I am present with you, <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>my little children, for whom I am in travail again, until Christ be formed in you! <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And I was wishing to be present with you now, and to change my voice; because I am perplexed about you.<p> <A name="22"></a><p class="hdg">Hagar and Sarah<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Tell me, ye who are wishing to be under law, do ye not hear the law? <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For it has been written that Abraham had two sons, one by the bond-woman, and one by the free-woman. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But the one by the bond-woman has been born after the flesh; and the one by the free-woman, through promise. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Which things are an allegory; for these <i>women</i> are two covenants; one, indeed, from mount Sinai, bringing forth into servitude, which is Hagar <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>(for the word Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia), and corresponds to the present Jerusalem; for she is in bondage with her children. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But the Jerusalem <i>which is</i> above is free, which, indeed, is our mother;<p> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>for it has been written, "Rejoice, O barren, that bear not! Break forth and cry, you that travail not! because many are the children of the desolate, rather than of her who has the husband."<p> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>But ye, brethren, after the manner of Isaac, are children of promise. <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>But, just as then, the one born after the flesh kept persecuting him <i>born</i> after <i>the</i> Spirit, so also <i>is it</i> now.<p> <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/galatians/4-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>But what says the Scripture?
