It is mentioned in the context of Jesus' ministry and parables, as well as in the Old Testament as a site of miraculous events.<p><span class="tophdg">Cultural and Historical Background: </span>Jericho is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world, located near the Jordan River in the West Bank. In biblical times, it was known for its fortified walls and strategic location. The city is famously associated with the Israelites' conquest under Joshua, where the walls of Jericho fell after the Israelites marched around them for seven days (Joshua 6). It was situated not far from the northern shore of the Dead Sea, in the tribe of Benjamin, between the city of Jerusalem and the river Jordan, 150 stadia from the former and 60 from the latter. <span class="abbreviation">Josephus</span>, <span class="abbreviation">b. j.</span> 4, 8, 3 calls its territory <span class="greek2">θεῖον</span> <span class="greek2">χωρίον</span>. It is mentioned in the N.
