<t><p class="indent1">They conceive<MH2029> trouble<MH5999> and give<MH3205> birth<MH3205> to disaster<MH205>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/59-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>They hatch<MH1234> vipers’<MH6848b> eggs<MH1000> and weave<MH707> the spider’s<MH5908> web<MH6980>; <t><p class="indent1">The one who eats<MH398> of their eggs<MH1000> dies<MH4191>, <t><p class="indent1">And <i>from</i> what is crushed<MH2115>, a snake<MH660> breaks<MH1234> out<MH1234>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/59-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Their webs<MH6980> will not become<MH1961> clothing<MH899b>, <t><p class="indent1">Nor<MH3808> will they cover<MH3680> themselves with their works<MH4639>; <t><p class="indent1">Their works<MH4639> are works<MH4639> of wrongdoing<MH205>, <t><p class="indent1">And an act<MH6467> of violence<MH2555> is in their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>hands<MH3709>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/59-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Their feet<MH7272> run<MH7323> to evil<MH7451b>, <t><p class="indent1">And they hurry<MH4116> to shed<MH8210> innocent<MH5355a> blood<MH1818>; <t><p class="indent1">Their thoughts<MH4284> are thoughts<MH4284> of wrongdoing<MH205>, <t><p class="indent1">Devastation<MH7701> and destruction<MH7667> are in their paths<MH4546>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/59-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>They do not know<MH3045> the way<MH1870> of peace<MH7965>, <t><p class="indent1">And there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> justice<MH4941> in their tracks<MH4570>; <t><p class="indent1">They have made<MH6140> their paths<MH5410b> crooked<MH6140>, <t><p class="indent1">Whoever<MH3605> walks<MH1869> on <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>them does not know<MH3045> peace<MH7965>. <p class="hdg">A Confession of Wickedness</p><poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/59-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Therefore<MH5921, 3651> justice<MH4941> is<MH7368> far<MH7368> from us, <t><p class="indent1">And righteousness<MH6666> does not reach<MH5381> us; <t><p class="indent1">For truth<MH571> has stumbled<MH3782> in the street<MH7339>, <t><p class="indent1">And uprightness<MH5228> cannot<MH3201, 3808> enter<MH935>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/59-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Truth<MH571> is<MH5737c> lacking<MH5737c>, <t><p class="indent1">And one who turns<MH5493> aside<MH5493> from evil<MH7451b> makes<MH7997b> himself a prey<MH7997b>. <t><p class="indent1">Now the LORD<MH3068> saw<MH7200>, <t><p class="indent1">And it was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>displeasing<MH7489a> in His sight<MH5869> that there<MH369> was<MH369> no<MH369> justice<MH4941>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/59-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And He saw<MH7200> that there<MH369> was<MH369> no<MH369> one<MH376>, <t><p class="indent1">And was amazed<MH8074> that there<MH369> was<MH369> not<MH369> one<MH369> to intercede<MH6293>; <t><p class="indent1">And He put<MH3847> on<MH3847> garments<MH899b> of vengeance<MH5359> for clothing<MH8516> <t><p class="indent1">And wrapped<MH5844a> Himself with zeal<MH7068> as a cloak<MH4598>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/59-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>According<MH5921> to <i>their</i> deeds<MH1578>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>so<MH5921> will He repay<MH7999a>: <p class="indent1stline">Wrath<MH2534> to His adversaries<MH6862c>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>retribution<MH1576> to His enemies<MH340>;
