Jesus<MG2424>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>For the law<MG3551> of the Spirit<MG4151> of life<MG2222> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>in Christ<MG5547> Jesus<MG2424> has set<MG1659> you free<MG1659> from the law<MG3551> of sin<MG266> and of death<MG2288>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>For what<MG102> the Law<MG3551> could<MG102> not<MG102> do, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>weak<MG770> as it was through<MG1223> the flesh<MG4561>, God<MG2316> <i>did:</i> sending<MG3992> His own<MG1438> Son<MG5207> in the likeness<MG3667> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>sinful<MG266> flesh<MG4561> and <i>as an offering</i> for sin<MG266>, He condemned<MG2632> sin<MG266> in the flesh<MG4561>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>so<MG2443> that<MG2443> the requirement<MG1345> of the Law<MG3551> might be fulfilled<MG4137> in us who do not walk<MG4043> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>according<MG2596> to<MG2596> the flesh<MG4561> but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>according<MG2596> to<MG2596> the Spirit<MG4151>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>For those<MG3588> who are in<MG2596> accord<MG2596> with<MG2596> the flesh<MG4561> set<MG5426> their minds<MG5426> on<MG5426> the things of the flesh<MG4561>, but those<MG3588> who are in<MG2596> accord<MG2596> with<MG2596> the Spirit<MG4151>, the things of the Spirit<MG4151>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>For the mind<MG5427> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>set on the flesh<MG4561> is death<MG2288>, but the mind<MG5427> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>set on the Spirit<MG4151> is life<MG2222> and peace<MG1515>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>because<MG1360> the mind<MG5427> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>set on the flesh<MG4561> is hostile<MG2189b> toward<MG1519> God<MG2316>; for it does not subject<MG5293> itself to the law<MG3551> of God<MG2316>, for it is not even<MG3761> able<MG1410> <i>to do so,</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>and those<MG3588> who are in the flesh<MG4561> cannot<MG1410, 3756> please<MG700> God<MG2316>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>However<MG1161>, you are not in the flesh<MG4561> but in the Spirit<MG4151>, if<MG1512> indeed<MG1512> the Spirit<MG4151> of God<MG2316> dwells<MG3611> in you. But if<MG1487> anyone<MG5100> does not have<MG2192> the Spirit<MG4151> of Christ<MG5547>, he does not belong<MG1510> to Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>If<MG1487> Christ<MG5547> is in you, though<MG3303a> the body<MG4983> is dead<MG3498> because<MG1223> of sin<MG266>, yet<MG1161> the spirit<MG4151> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>alive<MG2222> because<MG1223> of righteousness<MG1343>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But if<MG1487> the Spirit<MG4151> of Him who raised<MG1453> Jesus<MG2424> from the dead<MG3498> dwells<MG3611> in you, He who raised<MG1453> Christ<MG5547> Jesus<MG2424> from the dead<MG3498> will also<MG2532> give<MG2227> life<MG2227> to<MG2227> your mortal<MG2349> bodies<MG4983> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>through<MG1223> His Spirit<MG4151> who dwells<MG3611> in you. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>So<MG686> then<MG3767>, brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters,</i> we are under<MG3781> obligation<MG3781>, not to the flesh<MG4561>, to live<MG2198> according<MG2596> to the flesh<MG4561>— <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>for if<MG1487> you are living<MG2198> in<MG2596> accord<MG2596> with<MG2596> the flesh<MG4561>, you are<MG3195> going<MG3195> to<MG3195> die<MG599>; but if<MG1487> by the Spirit<MG4151> you are putting<MG2289> to<MG2289> death<MG2289> the deeds<MG4234> of the body<MG4983>, you will live<MG2198>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>For all<MG3745> who<MG3745> are being led<MG71> by the Spirit<MG4151> of God<MG2316>, these<MG3778> are sons<MG5207> <i>and daughters</i> of God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For you have not received<MG2983> a spirit<MG4151> of slavery<MG1397> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>leading<MG1519> to fear<MG5401> again<MG3825>, but you have received<MG2983> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>a spirit<MG4151> of adoption<MG5206> as<MG5206> sons<MG5206> <i>and daughters</i> by which<MG3739> we cry<MG2896> out<MG2896>, “Abba<MG5>! <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Father<MG3962>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>The Spirit<MG4151> Himself<MG846> testifies<MG4828> with our spirit<MG4151> that we are children<MG5043> of God<MG2316>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>and if<MG1487> children<MG5043>, heirs<MG2818> also<MG2532>, heirs<MG2818> of God<MG2316> and fellow<MG4789> heirs<MG4789> with Christ<MG5547>, if<MG1512> indeed<MG1512> we suffer<MG4841> with <i>Him</i> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> we may also<MG2532> be glorified<MG4888> with <i>Him.</i> <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>For I consider<MG3049> that the sufferings<MG3804> of this<MG3588> present<MG3568> time<MG2540> are not worthy<MG514> <i>to be</i> compared<MG4314> with<MG4314> the glory<MG1391> that is to be revealed<MG601> to us. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>For the eagerly<MG603> awaiting<MG603> creation<MG2937> waits<MG553> for the revealing<MG602> of the sons<MG5207> <i>and daughters</i> of God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>For the creation<MG2937> was subjected<MG5293> to futility<MG3153>, not willingly<MG1635>, but because<MG1223> of Him who subjected<MG5293> <i>it,</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>in hope<MG1680> <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>that the creation<MG2937> itself<MG846> also<MG2532> will be set<MG1659> free<MG1659> from its slavery<MG1397> to corruption<MG5356> into the freedom<MG1657> of the glory<MG1391> of the children<MG5043> of God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For we know<MG3609a> that the whole<MG3956> creation<MG2937> groans<MG4959> and suffers<MG4944> the<MG4944> pains<MG4944> of<MG4944> childbirth<MG4944> together<MG4959, 4944> until<MG891> now<MG3568>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And not only<MG3440> <i>that,</i> but also<MG2532> we ourselves<MG846>, having<MG2192> the first<MG536> fruits<MG536> of the Spirit<MG4151>, even<MG2532> we ourselves<MG846> groan<MG4727> within<MG1722> ourselves<MG1438>, waiting<MG553> eagerly<MG553> for <i>our</i> adoption<MG5206> as<MG5206> sons<MG5206> <i>and daughters,</i> the redemption<MG629> of our body<MG4983>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>For in hope<MG1680> we have been saved<MG4982>, but hope<MG1680> that is seen<MG991> is not hope<MG1680>; for who<MG5101> hopes<MG1680> for what<MG3739> he <i>already</i> sees<MG991>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But if<MG1487> we hope<MG1679> for what<MG3739> we do not see<MG991>, through<MG1223> perseverance<MG5281> we wait<MG553> eagerly<MG553> <i>for it.</i> <p class="hdg">Our Victory in Christ</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> in the same<MG5615> way<MG5615> the Spirit<MG4151> also<MG2532> helps<MG4878> our weakness<MG769>; for we do not know<MG3609a> what<MG5101> to pray<MG4336> for as we should<MG1163>, but the Spirit<MG4151> Himself<MG846> intercedes<MG5241> for <i>us</i> with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>groanings<MG4726> too<MG215> deep<MG215> for<MG215> words<MG215>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>and He who searches<MG2038a> the hearts<MG2588> knows<MG3609a> what<MG5101> the mind<MG5427> of the Spirit<MG4151> is, because<MG3754> He intercedes<MG1793> for the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>saints<MG40> according<MG2596> to <i>the will of</i> God<MG2316>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And we know<MG3609a> that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>God<MG2316> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>causes<MG4903> all<MG3956> things<MG3956> to<MG4903> work<MG4903> together<MG4903> for good<MG18> to those<MG3588> who love<MG25> God<MG2316>, to those<MG3588> who are called<MG2822> according<MG2596> to <i>His</i> purpose<MG4286>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>For those<MG3739> whom<MG3739> He foreknew<MG4267>, He also<MG2532> predestined<MG4309> <i>to become</i> conformed<MG4832b> to the image<MG1504> of His Son<MG5207>, so<MG1519> that<MG1519> He would be the firstborn<MG4416a> among<MG1722> many<MG4183> brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters;</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>and these<MG3778> whom<MG3739> He predestined<MG4309>, He also<MG2532> called<MG2564>; and these<MG3778> whom<MG3739> He called<MG2564>, He also<MG2532> justified<MG1344>; and these<MG3778> whom<MG3739> He justified<MG1344>, He also<MG2532> glorified<MG1392>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>What<MG5101> then<MG3767> shall we say<MG3004> to these<MG3778> things<MG3778>? If<MG1487> God<MG2316> <i>is</i> for us, who<MG5101> <i>is</i> against<MG2596> us? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>He who<MG3739> did not spare<MG5339> His own<MG2398> Son<MG5207>, but delivered<MG3860> Him over<MG3860> for us all<MG3956>, how<MG4459> will He not also<MG2532> with Him freely<MG5483> give<MG5483> us all<MG3956> things<MG3956>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Who<MG5101> will bring<MG1458> charges<MG1458> against<MG2596> God’s<MG2316> elect<MG1588>? God<MG2316> is the one who justifies<MG1344>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/8-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>who<MG5101> is the one who condemns<MG2632>?
