class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Objectives: The objective of this study was to compare different statistical variables for vaccinated and unvaccinated children in measles cases. Material and Methods: This cross sectional comparative study was conducted at Isolation ward, Department of Paediatrics, Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Peshawar, from April 2012 to March 2013. A total of 566 admitted cases of measles were enrolled. Data regarding age, sex, address, vaccination status, measles contact, hospital stay and outcome was collected and recorded on a proforma. History of measles vaccination was ascertained either by checking the vaccination cards or on parental recall. Result: In 566 cases of measles, 211(39%) were vaccinated and 345 (61%) were unvaccinated. Three hundred and ten (54.80%) patients were males and 256 (45.20%) were females with a male to female ratio of 1.2:1.The age range was from 1 year to 14 years with mean age with SD of 3.2 +2 years. Majority (371, 65.5%) of the patients were 1-3 years old. Mean hospital stay was 3.08 days with a range of 1-10 days and a standard deviation of ± 1.15. History of measles contact was present in 393 (69.4%) cases. Fourty eight patients were expired with a mortality rate of 8.5%. Conclusion: Majority of the children in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa are unvaccinated and unprotected against measles. Among vaccinated children, 39% of children attracted measles which indicate measles vaccine failure. This figure is clearly higher than that accepted for measles vaccine (2-10%). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=measles" title="measles">measles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vaccination" title=" vaccination"> vaccination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immunity" title=" immunity"> immunity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=population" title=" population"> population</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12615/comparision-of-statistical-variables-for-vaccinated-and-unvaccinated-children-in-measles-cases-in-khyber-pukhtun-khwa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12615.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">444</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2145</span> The English Translation of Arabic Metaphors in the Holy Qura’n</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Hamzah%20Alshehab">Mohammad Hamzah Alshehab</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Metaphor is a substitute expression in everyday life in languages, thoughts and actions. It has an original value in language use with different conceptual, grammatical and properties. In addition, it is a central concept in literary studies. The present paper aims at investigating metaphor’s types imbedded in some Holy Verses (HV). For achieving the objectives of this paper, two English versions were chosen , the first is the Translation of the Meanings of the Noble Qura’n in the English Language by Mohammad AlHilali and Mohammad Khan, and the second version is the English Translation of the Holy Qura’n by Mohammad Ali were used. The researcher selected (20) Holy Verses include metaphors to be analyzed and investigated. Metaphor types were categorized by an assessment of the two translations followed by a discussion between the two versions of translation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metaphor" title="metaphor">metaphor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metaphor%E2%80%99s%20types" title=" metaphor’s types"> metaphor’s types</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Holy%20Qura%E2%80%99n" title=" Holy Qura’n"> Holy Qura’n</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Holy%20Verses" title=" Holy Verses "> Holy Verses </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13557/the-english-translation-of-arabic-metaphors-in-the-holy-quran" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13557.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">653</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2144</span> Developing Teachers as Change Agents: A Qualitative Study of Master of Education Graduates in Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mir%20Afzal%20Tajik">Mir Afzal Tajik</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The 'Strengthening Teacher Education in Pakistan' (STEP) is an innovative programme jointly funded by the Government of Canada and the Aga Khan Foundation Canada and implemented by the Aga Khan University - Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) in partnership with the local governments, education departments and communities in the provinces of Balochistan, Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. One of the key components of the programme is the professional development of teachers, headteachers and teacher educators through a variety of teacher education programmes including a two-year Masters of Education (MEd) Programme offered by AKU-IED. A number of teachers, headteachers and teacher educators from these provinces have been developed through the MEd Programme. This paper discusses a qualitative research study conducted to explore the nature, relevance, rigor and richness of the experiences of the MEd graduates, and how these experiences have fostered their own professional development and their ability to bring about positive changes in their schools. The findings of the study provide useful insights into the graduates’ self-actualization, the transformation of their professional beliefs and practices, the difference they have made in their schools, and the challenges they face. The study also provides recommendations for policy and practice related to teacher education programmes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=STEP" title="STEP">STEP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teacher%20education" title=" teacher education"> teacher education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pakistan" title=" Pakistan"> Pakistan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Canada" title=" Canada"> Canada</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aga%20Khan%20foundation" title=" Aga Khan foundation"> Aga Khan foundation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43725/developing-teachers-as-change-agents-a-qualitative-study-of-master-of-education-graduates-in-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43725.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">347</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2143</span> Nanoparticles in Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer, and Medical Imaging Techniques Using Nano-Technology</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rao%20Muhammad%20Afzal%20Khan">Rao Muhammad Afzal Khan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nano technology is emerging as a useful technology in nearly all areas of Science and Technology. The conventional fingerprint enhancement like Gabor and Anisotropic filters do fill the gaps in ridge lines but they fail to tackle scar lines. To deal with this problem we are proposing a method for enhancing the ridges and valleys with scar so that true minutia points can be extracted with accuracy. PMF is calculated using the historical discharge or rainfall data considering the other climatic parameter stationary. However, climate is changing globally and the key climatic variables are temperature, evaporation, rainfall and sea level rise (SLR). To develop scenarios to a basin or catchment scale these important climatic variables should be considered. Nowadays scenario based on climatic variables is more suitable than PMF. The governing equations are simplified by implying no slip in radial direction. Based on Karman Pohlhausen procedure polynomial solution for axial velocity profile is presented. An expressions for pressure gradient, shear stress, separation and reattachment points and radial velocity are also calculated. The effect of slip and no slip velocity on velocity, shear stress, pressure gradient are discussed and depicted graphically. It is noted that when Reynolds number increases velocity of the fluid decreases in both slip and no slip conditions. It is also found that the wall shear stress, separation and reattachment points are strongly effected by Reynolds number. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=approximate%20solution" title="approximate solution">approximate solution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constricted%20tube" title=" constricted tube"> constricted tube</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-Newtonian%20fluids" title=" non-Newtonian fluids"> non-Newtonian fluids</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reynolds%20number" title=" Reynolds number"> Reynolds number</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34309/flow-of-a-second-order-fluid-through-constricted-tube-with-slip-velocity-at-wall-using-integral-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34309.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">398</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2137</span> Texturing of Tool Insert Using Femtosecond Laser</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ashfaq%20Khan">Ashfaq Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aftab%20Khan"> Aftab Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mushtaq%20Khan"> Mushtaq Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sarem%20Sattar"> Sarem Sattar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20A%20Sheikh"> Mohammad A Sheikh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lin%20Li"> Lin Li</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Chip removal processes are one of key processes of the manufacturing industry where chip removal is conducted by tool inserts of exceptionally hard materials. Tungsten carbide has been extensively used as tool insert for machining processes involving chip removal processes. These hard materials are generally fabricated by single step sintering process as further modification after fabrication in these materials cannot be done easily. Advances in tool surface modification have revealed that advantages such as improved tribological properties and extended tool life can be harnessed from the same tool by texturing the tool rake surface. Moreover, it has been observed that the shape and location of the texture also influences the behavior. Although texturing offers plentiful advantages the challenge lies in the generation of textures on the tool surface. Extremely hard material such as diamond is required to process tungsten carbide. Laser is unique processing tool that does not have a physical contact with the material and thus does not wear. In this research the potential of utilizing laser for texturing of tungsten carbide to develop custom features would be studied. A parametric study of texturing of Tungsten Carbide with a femtosecond laser would be conducted to investigate the process parameters and establish the feasible processing window. The effect of fluence, scan speed and number of repetition would be viewed in detail. Moreover, the mechanism for the generation of features would also be reviewed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=laser" title="laser">laser</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=texturing" title=" texturing"> texturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=femtosecond" title=" femtosecond"> femtosecond</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tungsten%20carbide" title=" tungsten carbide"> tungsten carbide</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34276/texturing-of-tool-insert-using-femtosecond-laser" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34276.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">658</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2136</span> Biometric Identification with Latitude and Longitude Fingerprint Verification for Attendance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Fezan%20Afzal">Muhammad Fezan Afzal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Imran%20Khan"> Imran Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salma%20Imtiaz"> Salma Imtiaz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The need for human verification and identification requires from centuries for authentication. Since it is being used in big institutes like financial, government and crime departments, a continued struggle is important to make this system more efficient to prevent security breaches. Therefore, multiple devices are used to authenticate the biometric for each individual. A large number of devices are required to cover a large number of users. As the number of devices increases, cost will automatically increase. Furthermore, it is time-consuming for biometrics due to the devices being insufficient and are not available at every door. In this paper, we propose the framework and algorithm where the mobile of each individual can also perform the biometric authentication of attendance and security. Every mobile has a biometric authentication system that is used in different mobile applications for security purposes. Therefore, each individual can use the biometric system mobile without moving from one place to another. Moreover, by using the biometrics mobile, the cost of biometric systems can be removed that are mostly deployed in different organizations for the attendance of students, employees and for other security purposes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fingerprint" title="fingerprint">fingerprint</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fingerprint%20authentication" title=" fingerprint authentication"> fingerprint authentication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20verification" title=" mobile verification"> mobile verification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20biometric%20verification" title=" mobile biometric verification"> mobile biometric verification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20fingerprint%20sensor" title=" mobile fingerprint sensor"> mobile fingerprint sensor</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171752/biometric-identification-with-latitude-and-longitude-fingerprint-verification-for-attendance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171752.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">69</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2135</span> Starch Incorporated Hydroxyapatite/Chitin Nanocomposite as a Novel Bone Construct</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reshma%20Jolly">Reshma Jolly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Shakir"> Mohammad Shakir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Shoeb%20Khan"> Mohammad Shoeb Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noor%20E.%20Iram"> Noor E. The interactions, crystallite size and surface morphology against n-HA/CT (nano-hydroxyapatite/chitin) nanocomposite have been obtained by correlating and comparing the results of FTIR, SEM, TEM and XRD. The comparative study of the bioactivity of n-HA/CT and n-HA/CT/ST nanocomposites revealed that the incorporation of starch as templating agent improved these properties in n-HA/CT/ST nanocomposite. The rise in thermal stability in n-HA/CT/ST nanocomposite as compared to n-HA/CT has been observed by comparing the TGA results. The comparison of SEM images of both the scaffolds indicated that the addition of ST influenced the surface morphology of n-HA/CT scaffold which appeared to be rougher and porous. The MTT assay on murine fibroblast L929 cells and in-vitro bioactivity of n-HA/CT/ST matrix referred superior non-toxic property of n-HA/CT/ST nanocomposite and higher possibility of osteo-integration in-vivo, respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioactive" title="bioactive">bioactive</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chitin" title=" chitin"> chitin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hyroxyapatite" title=" hyroxyapatite"> hyroxyapatite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanocomposite" title=" nanocomposite"> nanocomposite</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29631/starch-incorporated-hydroxyapatitechitin-nanocomposite-as-a-novel-bone-construct" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29631.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">493</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2134</span> Dosimetric Dependence on the Collimator Angle in Prostate Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Isa%20Khan">Muhammad Isa Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jalil%20Ur%20Rehman"> Jalil Ur Rehman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Afzal%20Khan%20Rao"> Muhammad Afzal Khan Rao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=James%20Chow"> James Chow</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: This study investigates the dose-volume variations in planning target volume (PTV) and organs-at-risk (OARs) using different collimator angles for smart arc prostate volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). Awareness of the collimator angle for PTV and OARs sparing is essential for the planner because optimization contains numerous treatment constraints producing a complex, unstable and computationally challenging problem throughout its examination of an optimal plan in a rational time. Materials and Methods: Single arc VMAT plans at different collimator angles varied systematically (0°-90°) were performed on a Harold phantom and a new treatment plan is optimized for each collimator angle. We analyzed the conformity index (CI), homogeneity index (HI), gradient index (GI), monitor units (MUs), dose-volume histogram, mean and maximum doses to PTV. We also explored OARs (e.g. bladder, rectum and femoral heads), dose-volume criteria in the treatment plan (e.g. D30%, D50%, V30Gy and V38Gy of bladder and rectum; D5%,V14Gy and V22Gy of femoral heads), dose-volume histogram, mean and maximum doses for smart arc VMAT at different collimator angles. Results: There was no significance difference found in VMAT optimization at all studied collimator angles. However, if 0.5% accuracy is concerned then collimator angle = 45° provides higher CI and lower HI. Collimator angle = 15° also provides lower HI values like collimator angle 45°. It is seen that collimator angle = 75° is established as a good for rectum and right femur sparing. Collimator angle = 90° and collimator angle = 30° were found good for rectum and left femur sparing respectively. The PTV dose coverage statistics for each plan are comparatively independent of the collimator angles. Conclusion: It is concluded that this study will help the planner to have freedom to choose any collimator angle from (0°-90°) for PTV coverage and select a suitable collimator angle to spare OARs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VMAT" title="VMAT">VMAT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dose-volume%20histogram" title=" dose-volume histogram"> dose-volume histogram</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=collimator%20angle" title=" collimator angle"> collimator angle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organs-at-risk" title=" organs-at-risk"> organs-at-risk</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5950/dosimetric-dependence-on-the-collimator-angle-in-prostate-volumetric-modulated-arc-therapy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5950.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">512</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2133</span> Computational Design, Simulation, and Wind Tunnel Testing of a Stabilator for a Fixed Wing Aircraft</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kartik%20Gupta">Kartik Gupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Umar%20Khan"> Umar Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mayur%20Parab"> Mayur Parab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dhiraj%20Chaudhari"> Dhiraj Chaudhari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afzal%20Ansari"> Afzal Ansari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The report focuses on the study related to the Design and Simulation of a stabilator (an all-movable horizontal stabilizer) for a fixed-wing aircraft. The project involves the development of a computerized direct optimization procedure for designing an aircraft all-movable stabilator. This procedure evaluates various design variables to synthesize an optimal stabilator that meets specific requirements, including performance, control, stability, strength, and flutter velocity constraints. The work signifies the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis of the airfoils used in the stabilator along with the CFD analysis of the Stabilizer and Stabilator of an aircraft named Thorp- T18 in software like XFLR5 and ANSYS-Fluent. A comparative analysis between a Stabilizer and Stabilator of equal surface area and under the same environmental conditions was done, and the percentage of drag reduced by the Stabilator for the same amount of lift generated as the Stabilizer was also calculated lastly, Wind tunnel testing was performed on a scale down model of the Stabilizer and Stabilator and the results of the Wind tunnel testing were compared with the results of CFD. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wind%20tunnel%20testing" title="wind tunnel testing">wind tunnel testing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CFD" title=" CFD"> CFD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stabilizer" title=" stabilizer"> stabilizer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stabilator" title=" stabilator"> stabilator</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184409/computational-design-simulation-and-wind-tunnel-testing-of-a-stabilator-for-a-fixed-wing-aircraft" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184409.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">60</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2132</span> Nano-Hydroxyapatite/Dextrin/Chitin Nanocomposite System for Bone Tissue Engineering</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Shakir">Mohammad Shakir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reshma%20Jolly"> Reshma Jolly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Shoeb%20Khan"> Mohammad Shoeb Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noor-E-Iram"> Noor-E-Iram</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A nanocomposite system incorporating dextrin into nano-hydroxyapatite/chitin matrix (n-HA/DX/CT) has been successfully synthesized via co-precipitation route at room temperature for the application in bone tissue engineering by investigating biocompatibility, cytotoxicity and mechanical properties. The FTIR spectra of n-HA/DX/CT nanocomposite indicated a considerable intermolecular interaction between the various components of the system. Its clinical utility is limited due to the observed genotoxic side effects on healthy cells suggesting that newer combination and genoprotective regimens are urgently needed for the management of doxorubicin chemotherapy. Some dietary phytochemicals are well known for their protective mechanism of action and genistein from soy is recognized as an anti-oxidant with similar properties. Therefore, the present study investigates the effect of genistein against the genotoxic doses of doxorubicin by assessing chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatid exchanges, cell cycle kinetics, cell viability, apoptosis, and DNA damage markers in cultured human lymphocytes. Our results reveal that genistein treatment significantly suppresses genotoxic damage induced by doxorubicin. It is concluded that genistein has the potential to reduce the genotoxicity induced by anti-cancer drugs, thereby reducing the chances of developing secondary tumors during the therapy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=apoptosis" title="apoptosis">apoptosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20damage%20markers" title=" DNA damage markers"> DNA damage markers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=doxorubicin" title=" doxorubicin"> doxorubicin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genistein" title=" genistein"> genistein</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genotoxicity" title=" genotoxicity"> genotoxicity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human%20lymphocyte%20culture" title=" human lymphocyte culture"> human lymphocyte culture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3421/genistein-suppresses-doxorubicin-associated-genotoxicity-in-human-lymphocytes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3421.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">359</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2129</span> Immunomodulation by Interleukin-10 Therapy in Mouse Airway Transplantation </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammaad%20Afzal%20Khan">Mohammaad Afzal Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ghazi%20Abdulmalik%20Ashoor"> Ghazi Abdulmalik Ashoor </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatimah%20Alanazi"> Fatimah Alanazi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Talal%20Shamma"> Talal Shamma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Altuhami"> Abdullah Altuhami</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hala%20Abdalrahman%20Ahmed"> Hala Abdalrahman Ahmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdullah%20Mohammed%20Assiri"> Abdullah Mohammed Assiri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dieter%20Clemens%20Broering"> Dieter Clemens Broering</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Microvascular injuries during inflammation are key causes of transplant malfunctioning and permanent failure, which play a major role in the development of chronic rejection of the transplanted organ. Inflammation-induced microvascular loss is a promising area to investigate the decisive roles of regulatory and effector responses. The present study was designed to investigate the impact of IL-10 on immunotolerance, in particular, the microenvironment of the allograft during rejection. Here, we investigated the effects of IL-10 blockade/ reconstitution and serially monitored regulatory T cells (Tregs), graft microvasculature, and airway epithelium in rejecting airway transplants. We demonstrated that the blocking/reconstitution of IL-10 significantly modulates CD4+FOXP3+ Tregs, microvasculature, and airway epithelium during rejection. Our findings further highlighted that blockade of IL-10 upregulated proinflammatory cytokines, IL-2, IL-1β, IFN-γ, IL-15, and IL-23, but suppressed IL-5 secretion during rejection; however, reconstitution of IL-10 significantly upregulated CD4+FOXP3+ Tregs, tissue oxygenation/blood flow and airway repair. Collectively, these findings demonstrate a potential reparative modulation of IL-10 during microvascular and epithelial repair, which could provide a vital therapeutic window to rejecting transplants in clinical practice. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interleukin%20-10" title="interleukin -10">interleukin -10</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regulatory%20T%20cells" title=" regulatory T cells"> regulatory T cells</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=allograft%20rejection" title=" allograft rejection"> allograft rejection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immunotolerance" title=" immunotolerance"> immunotolerance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114156/immunomodulation-by-interleukin-10-therapy-in-mouse-airway-transplantation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114156.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">174</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2128</span> iPSC-derived MSC Mediated Immunosuppression during Mouse Airway Transplantation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Afzal%20Khan">Mohammad Afzal Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatimah%20Alanazi"> Fatimah Alanazi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hala%20Abdalrahman%20Ahmed"> Hala Abdalrahman Ahmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Talal%20Shamma"> Talal Shamma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kilian%20Kelly"> Kilian Kelly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed%20A.%20Hammad"> Mohammed A. Despite the remarkable short-term recovery, long-term lung survival continues to face several significant challenges, including chronic rejection and severe toxic side-effects due to global immunosuppression. Stem cell-based immunotherapy has been recognized as a crucial immunoregulatory regimen in various preclinical and clinical studies. Despite initial therapeutic outcomes, conventional stem cells face key limitations. The Cymerus™ manufacturing facilitates the production of a virtually limitless supply of consistent human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived mesenchymal stem cells, which could play a key role in selective immunosuppression and graft repair during rejection. Here, we demonstrated the impact of iPSC-derived human MSCs on the development of immune-tolerance and long-term graft survival in mouse orthotopic airway allografts. BALB/c→C57BL/6 allografts were reconstituted with iPSC-derived MSCs (2 million/transplant/ at d0), and allografts were examined for regulatory T cells (Tregs), oxygenation, microvascular blood flow, airway epithelium and collagen deposition during rejection. We demonstrated that iPSC-derived MSC treatment leads to significant increase in tissue expression of hTSG-6 protein, followed by an upregulation of mouse Tregs and IL-5, IL-10, IL-15 cytokines, which augments graft microvascular blood flow and oxygenation, and thereby maintained a healthy airway epithelium and prevented the subepithelial deposition of collagen at d90 post-transplantation. Collectively, these data confirmed that iPSC-derived MSC-mediated immunosuppression has potential to establish immune-tolerance and rescue allograft from sustained hypoxic/ischemic phase and subsequently limits long-term airway epithelial injury and collagen progression, which therapeutically warrant a study of Cymerus iPSC-derived MSCs as a potential management option for immunosuppression in transplant recipients. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stem%20cell%20therapy" title="stem cell therapy">stem cell therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immunotolerance" title=" immunotolerance"> immunotolerance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regulatory%20T%20cells" title=" regulatory T cells"> regulatory T cells</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hypoxia%20and%20ischemia" title=" hypoxia and ischemia"> hypoxia and ischemia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microvasculature" title=" microvasculature"> microvasculature</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114237/ipsc-derived-msc-mediated-immunosuppression-during-mouse-airway-transplantation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/114237.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">158</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2127</span> The Potential Factors Relating to the Decision of Return Migration of Myanmar Migrant Workers: A Case Study in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Musthaya%20Patchanee">Musthaya Patchanee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this research is to study potential factors relating to the decision of return migration of Myanmar migrant workers in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province by conducting a random sampling of 400 people aged between 15-59 who migrated from Myanmar. The information collected through interviews was analyzed to find a percentage and mean using the Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. The results have shown that 33.25% of Myanmar migrant workers want to return to their home country within the next 1-5 years, 46.25%, in 6-10 years and the rest, in over 10 years. The factors relating to such decision can be concluded that the scale of the decision of return migration has a positive relationship with a statistical significance at 0.05 with a conformity with friends and relatives (r=0.886), a relationship with family and community (r=0.782), possession of land in hometown (r=0.756) and educational level (r=0.699). However, the factor of property possession in Prachuap Khiri Khan is the only factor with a high negative relationship (r=0.-537). From the Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis, the results have shown that the conformity with friends and relatives and educational level factors are influential to the decision of return migration of Myanmar migrant workers in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, which can predict the decision at 86.60% and the multiple regression equation from the analysis is Y= 6.744+1.198 conformity + 0.647 education. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decision%20of%20return%20migration" title="decision of return migration">decision of return migration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=factors%20of%20return%20migration" title=" factors of return migration"> factors of return migration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Myanmar%20migrant%20workers" title=" Myanmar migrant workers"> Myanmar migrant workers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Prachuap%20Khiri%20Khan%20Province" title=" Prachuap Khiri Khan Province"> Prachuap Khiri Khan Province</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30208/the-potential-factors-relating-to-the-decision-of-return-migration-of-myanmar-migrant-workers-a-case-study-in-prachuap-khiri-khan-province" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30208.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">541</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2126</span> Application of Hydrologic Engineering Centers and River Analysis System Model for Hydrodynamic Analysis of Arial Khan River</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Najeeb%20Hassan">Najeeb Hassan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahmudur%20Rahman"> Mahmudur Rahman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Arial Khan River is one of the main south-eastward outlets of the River Padma. This river maintains a meander channel through its course and is erosional in nature. The specific objective of the research is to study and evaluate the hydrological characteristics in the form of assessing changes of cross-sections, discharge, water level and velocity profile in different stations and to create a hydrodynamic model of the Arial Khan River. Necessary data have been collected from Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and Center for Environment and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS). Satellite images have been observed from Google earth. In this study, hydrodynamic model of Arial Khan River has been developed using well known steady open channel flow code Hydrologic Engineering Centers and River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) using field surveyed geometric data. Cross-section properties at 22 locations of River Arial Khan for the years 2011, 2013 and 2015 were also analysed. 1-D HEC-RAS model has been developed using the cross sectional data of 2015 and appropriate boundary condition is being used to run the model. This Arial Khan River model is calibrated using the pick discharge of 2015. The applicable value of Mannings roughness coefficient (n) is adjusted through the process of calibration. The value of water level which ties with the observed data to an acceptable accuracy is taken as calibrated model. The 1-D HEC-RAS model then validated by using the pick discharges from 2009-2018. Variation in observed water level in the model and collected water level data is being compared to validate the model. It is observed that due to seasonal variation, discharge of the river changes rapidly and Mannings roughness coefficient (n) also changes due to the vegetation growth along the river banks. This river model may act as a tool to measure flood area in future. By considering the past pick flow discharge, it is strongly recommended to improve the carrying capacity of Arial Khan River to protect the surrounding areas from flash flood. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BWDB" title="BWDB">BWDB</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CEGIS" title=" CEGIS"> CEGIS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HEC-RAS" title=" HEC-RAS"> HEC-RAS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119282/application-of-hydrologic-engineering-centers-and-river-analysis-system-model-for-hydrodynamic-analysis-of-arial-khan-river" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119282.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">183</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2125</span> Library Anxiety among Library and Information Science Students at Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak, Pakistan: A Bostick Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeed%20Ullah%20Jan">Saeed Ullah Jan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shafaq"> Shafaq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sumbul"> Sumbul</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Anxiety is one of the most common emotions and is a normal reaction to danger or a threat. Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan (1817 –1898), commonly known as Sir Sayeed, was an Indian Muslim leader, Islamic modernist, philosopher and social reformer of the nineteenth century. He earned a reputation as a distinguished scholar while working as a jurist for British India. During the Indian Rebellion of 1857, he remained loyal to the British Empire and was noted for his actions in saving European lives. Believing that the future of Muslims was threatened by the rigidity of their orthodox outlook, Sir Sayeed began promoting Western–style scientific education by founding modern schools and journals and organizing Muslim entrepreneurs. He was one of the founders of the Aligarh Movement and Aligarh Muslim University. He began focusing on writing, from his early life, on various subjects, mainly educational issues. He launched his attempts to revive the spirit of progress within the Muslim community of India. Therefore, modern education became the pivot of his movement for the regeneration of the Indian Muslims. Sayeed Ahmed Khan found time for literary and scholarly pursuits. The range of his literary and scholarly interests was very wide, comprising all the major areas: education, law, philosophy, history, politics, archeology, journalism, Muslim modernism, literature, science and culture, mainly based on his comprehensive religious ideas should be well measured in view to making out him and his contribution to the context. The books written by himself and the books composed by him by some of the great writers like Altaf Hussein Hali, Hafee z Malick, Nasim Rashid, and Christian W. Troll were studied to understand him and his contribution. The readers of this paper would benefit from dispelling the hazy ideas about this great man of India who made an immense contribution. Further research should be undertaken to know more about the different sides of his thought and personality. The qualitative and the historical methods are adopted for the accomplishment of the work. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thinker" title="thinker">thinker</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reformer" title=" reformer"> reformer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=educator%20and%20Philosopher" title=" educator and Philosopher"> educator and Philosopher</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modernist" title=" modernist"> modernist</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171974/the-literary-works-of-sir-sayeed-ahmed-khan-and-its-impact-on-indian-muslims" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171974.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">100</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2123</span> Green It-Outsourcing Assurance Model for It-Outsourcing Vendors</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siffat%20%20Ullah%20Khan">Siffat Ullah Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rahmat%20Ullah%20Khan"> Rahmat Ullah Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rafiq%20%20Ahmad%20Khan"> Rafiq Ahmad Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Habibullah%20Khan"> Habibullah Khan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Green IT or green computing has emerged as a fast growing business paradigm in recent years in order to develop energy-efficient Software and peripheral devices. With the constant evolution of technology and the world critical environmental status, all private and public information technology (IT) businesses are moving towards sustainability. We identified, through systematic literature review and questionnaire survey, 9 motivators, in total, faced by vendors in IT-Outsourcing relationship. Amongst these motivators 7 were ranked as critical motivators. We also identified 21, in total, practices for addressing these critical motivators. Based on these inputs we have developed Green IT-Outsourcing Assurance Model (GITAM) for IT-Outsourcing vendors. The model comprises four different levels. i.e. Initial, White, Green and Grey. Each level comprises different critical motivators and their relevant practices. We conclude that our model, GITAM, will assist IT-Outsourcing vendors in gauging their level in order to manage IT-Outsourcing activities in a green and sustainable fashion to assist the environment and to reduce the carbon emission. The model will assist vendors in improving their current level by suggesting various practices. The model will contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of Green IT. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Green%20IT-outsourcing%20Assurance%20Model%20%28GITAM%29" title="Green IT-outsourcing Assurance Model (GITAM)">Green IT-outsourcing Assurance Model (GITAM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Systematic%20Literature%20Review" title=" Systematic Literature Review"> Systematic Literature Review</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Empirical%20Study" title=" Empirical Study"> Empirical Study</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Case%20Study" title=" Case Study"> Case Study</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/132174/green-it-outsourcing-assurance-model-for-it-outsourcing-vendors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/132174.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">252</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2122</span> Variability Management of Contextual Feature Model in Multi-Software Product Line</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Fezan%20Afzal">Muhammad Fezan Afzal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asad%20Abbas"> Asad Abbas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Imran%20Khan"> Imran Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salma%20Imtiaz"> Salma Imtiaz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Software Product Line (SPL) paradigm is used for the development of the family of software products that share common and variable features. Feature model is a domain of SPL that consists of common and variable features with predefined relationships and constraints. Multiple SPLs consist of a number of similar common and variable features, such as mobile phones and Tabs. Reusability of common and variable features from the different domains of SPL is a complex task due to the external relationships and constraints of features in the feature model. To increase the reusability of feature model resources from domain engineering, it is required to manage the commonality of features at the level of SPL application development. In this research, we have proposed an approach that combines multiple SPLs into a single domain and converts them to a common feature model. Extracting the common features from different feature models is more effective, less cost and time to market for the application development. For extracting features from multiple SPLs, the proposed framework consists of three steps: 1) find the variation points, 2) find the constraints, and 3) combine the feature models into a single feature model on the basis of variation points and constraints. By using this approach, reusability can increase features from the multiple feature models. The impact of this research is to reduce the development of cost, time to market and increase products of SPL. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=software%20product%20line" title="software product line">software product line</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feature%20model" title=" feature model"> feature model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variability%20management" title=" variability management"> variability management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-SPLs" title=" multi-SPLs"> multi-SPLs</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172205/variability-management-of-contextual-feature-model-in-multi-software-product-line" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172205.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">69</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2121</span> Assessment of Toxic Impact of Metals on Different Instars of Silkworm, Bombyx Mori</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Dildar%20Gogi">Muhammad Dildar Gogi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Arshad"> Muhammad Arshad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ahsan%20Khan"> Muhammad Ahsan Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Sufian"> M. There is need to screen out such metallic compound for their toxicity at their various concentrations. The present study was carried out to assess toxicity of metals in different instars of silkworm. Aqueous solutions of nine heavy-metal based salts were prepared by dissolving 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350 and 400 mg of each salt in one liter of water and were applied on the mulberry leaves by leaf-dip methods. The results reveal that mortality in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th instar larvae caused by each heavy metal salts increased with an increase in their concentrations. The 1st instar larvae were found more susceptible to metal salts followed by 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th instar larvae of silkworm. Overall, Nickel chloride proved more toxic for all larval instar as it demonstrated approximately 40-99% mortality. On the basis of LC2 and larval mortality, the order of toxicity of heavy metals against all five larval instar was Nickel chloride (LC₂ = 1.9-13.9 mg/L; & 15.0±1.2-69.2±1.7% mortality) followed by Chromium nitrate (LC₂ = 3.3-14.8 mg/L; & 13.3±1.4-62.4±2.8% mortality), Cobalt nitrate (LC₂ = 4.3-30.9; &11.4±0.07-54.9±2.0% mortality), Lead acetate (LC₂ =8.8-53.3 mg/L; & 9.5±1.3-46.4±2.9% mortality), Aluminum sulfate (LC₂ = 15.5-76.6 mg/L; & 8.4±0.08-42.1±2.8% mortality), Barium sulfide (LC₂ = 20.9-105.9; & 7.7±1.1-39.2±2.5% mortality), Copper sulfate (LC2 = 28.5-12.4 mg/L; & 7.3±0.06-37.1±2.4% mortality), Manganese chloride (LC₂ = 29.9-136.9 mg/L; & 6.8±0.09-35.3±1.6% mortality) and Zinc nitrate (LC₂ = 36.3-15 mg/L; & 6.2±1.2-32.1±1.9% mortality). Zinc nitrate @ 50 and 100 mg/L, Barium sulfide @ 50 mg/L, Manganese chloride @ 50 and 100 mg/L and Copper sulfate @ 50 mg/L proved safe for 5th instar larvae as these interaction attributed no mortality. All the heavy metal salts at a concentration of 50 mg/L demonstrated less than 10% mortality. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heavy-metals" title="heavy-metals">heavy-metals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=larval-instars" title=" larval-instars"> larval-instars</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lethal-concentration" title=" lethal-concentration"> lethal-concentration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mortality" title=" mortality"> mortality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silkworm" title=" silkworm"> silkworm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97315/assessment-of-toxic-impact-of-metals-on-different-instars-of-silkworm-bombyx-mori" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97315.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">219</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2120</span> Blended Learning in a Mathematics Classroom: A Focus in Khan Academy </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sibawu%20Witness%20Siyepu">Sibawu Witness Siyepu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study explores the effects of instructional design using blended learning in the learning of radian measures among Engineering students. Blended learning is an education programme that combines online digital media with traditional classroom methods. It requires the physical presence of both lecturer and student in a mathematics computer laboratory. Blended learning provides element of class control over time, place, path or pace. The focus was on the use of Khan Academy to supplement traditional classroom interactions. Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organisation created by educator Salman Khan with a goal of creating an accessible place for students to learn through watching videos in a computer assisted computer. The researcher who is an also lecturer in mathematics support programme collected data through instructing students to watch Khan Academy videos on radian measures, and by supplying students with traditional classroom activities. Classroom activities entails radian measure activities extracted from the Internet. Students were given an opportunity to engage in class discussions, social interactions and collaborations. These activities necessitated students to write formative assessments tests. The purpose of formative assessments tests was to find out about the students’ understanding of radian measures, including errors and misconceptions they displayed in their calculations. Identification of errors and misconceptions serve as pointers of students’ weaknesses and strengths in their learning of radian measures. At the end of data collection, semi-structure interviews were administered to a purposefully sampled group to explore their perceptions and feedback regarding the use of blended learning approach in teaching and learning of radian measures. The study employed Algebraic Insight Framework to analyse data collected. Algebraic Insight Framework is a subset of symbol sense which allows a student to correctly enter expressions into a computer assisted systems efficiently. This study offers students opportunities to enter topics and subtopics on radian measures into a computer through the lens of Khan Academy. Khan academy demonstrates procedures followed to reach solutions of mathematical problems. The researcher performed the task of explaining mathematical concepts and facilitated the process of reinvention of rules and formulae in the learning of radian measures. Lastly, activities that reinforce students’ understanding of radian were distributed. Results showed that this study enthused the students in their learning of radian measures. Learning through videos prompted the students to ask questions which brought about clarity and sense making to the classroom discussions. Data revealed that sense making through reinvention of rules and formulae assisted the students in enhancing their learning of radian measures. This study recommends the use of Khan Academy in blended learning to be introduced as a socialisation programme to all first year students. This will prepare students that are computer illiterate to become conversant with the use of Khan Academy as a powerful tool in the learning of mathematics. Khan Academy is a key technological tool that is pivotal for the development of students’ autonomy in the learning of mathematics and that promotes collaboration with lecturers and peers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=algebraic%20insight%20framework" title="algebraic insight framework">algebraic insight framework</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blended%20learning" title=" blended learning"> blended learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khan%20Academy" title=" Khan Academy"> Khan Academy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radian%20measures" title=" radian measures "> radian measures </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70918/blended-learning-in-a-mathematics-classroom-a-focus-in-khan-academy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70918.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">309</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2119</span> Prediction Fluid Properties of Iranian Oil Field with Using of Radial Based Neural Network </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdolreza%20Memari">Abdolreza Memari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this article in order to estimate the viscosity of crude oil,a numerical method has been used. We use this method to measure the crude oil's viscosity for 3 states: Saturated oil's viscosity, viscosity above the bubble point and viscosity under the saturation pressure. Then the crude oil's viscosity is estimated by using KHAN model and roller ball method. After that using these data that include efficient conditions in measuring viscosity, the estimated viscosity by the presented method, a radial based neural method, is taught. This network is a kind of two layered artificial neural network that its stimulation function of hidden layer is Gaussian function and teaching algorithms are used to teach them. After teaching radial based neural network, results of experimental method and artificial intelligence are compared all together. Teaching this network, we are able to estimate crude oil's viscosity without using KHAN model and experimental conditions and under any other condition with acceptable accuracy. Results show that radial neural network has high capability of estimating crude oil saving in time and cost is another advantage of this investigation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=viscosity" title="viscosity">viscosity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iranian%20crude%20oil" title=" Iranian crude oil"> Iranian crude oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radial%20based" title=" radial based"> radial based</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20network" title=" neural network"> neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=roller%20ball%20method" title=" roller ball method"> roller ball method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=KHAN%20model" title=" KHAN model "> KHAN model </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29815/prediction-fluid-properties-of-iranian-oil-field-with-using-of-radial-based-neural-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29815.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">501</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2118</span> Automated Heart Sound Classification from Unsegmented Phonocardiogram Signals Using Time Frequency Features</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nadia%20Masood%20Khan">Nadia Masood Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Salman%20Khan"> Muhammad Salman Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gul%20Muhammad%20Khan"> Gul Muhammad Khan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cardiologists perform cardiac auscultation to detect abnormalities in heart sounds. Since accurate auscultation is a crucial first step in screening patients with heart diseases, there is a need to develop computer-aided detection/diagnosis (CAD) systems to assist cardiologists in interpreting heart sounds and provide second opinions. In this paper different algorithms are implemented for automated heart sound classification using unsegmented phonocardiogram (PCG) signals. Support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN) and cartesian genetic programming evolved artificial neural network (CGPANN) without the application of any segmentation algorithm has been explored in this study. The signals are first pre-processed to remove any unwanted frequencies. Both time and frequency domain features are then extracted for training the different models. The different algorithms are tested in multiple scenarios and their strengths and weaknesses are discussed. Results indicate that SVM outperforms the rest with an accuracy of 73.64%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pattern%20recognition" title="pattern recognition">pattern recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computer%20aided%20diagnosis" title="computer aided diagnosis">computer aided diagnosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heart%20sound%20classification" title=" heart sound classification"> heart sound classification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=and%20feature%20extraction" title=" and feature extraction"> and feature extraction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95434/automated-heart-sound-classification-from-unsegmented-phonocardiogram-signals-using-time-frequency-features" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95434.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">262</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2117</span> Impact of Rebar-Reinforcement on Flexural Response of Shear-Critical Ultrahigh-Performance Concrete Beams</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yassir%20M.%20Abbas">Yassir M. The inclusion of a fibrous system in the UHPC material increased its compressive and flexural strengths by 31.5% and 237.8%, respectively. Based on the analysis of the load-deflection curves of UHPC beams, it was found that UHPC beams with a low reinforcement ratio are prone to sudden brittle failure. This failure behavior was changed, however, to a ductile one in beams with medium to high ratios. The implication is that improving UHPC beam tensile reinforcement could result in a higher level of safety. More reinforcement bars also enabled the load-deflection behavior to be improved, particularly after yielding. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
