My hour<MG5610> has<MG2240> not yet<MG3768> come<MG2240>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>His mother<MG3384> *said<MG3004> to the servants<MG1249>, “Whatever<MG3739, 5100, 302> He tells<MG3004> you, do<MG4160> it.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> there were six<MG1803> stone<MG3035> waterpots<MG5201> standing<MG2749> there<MG1563> for the Jewish<MG2453> custom<MG2512> of<MG2512> purification<MG2512>, containing<MG5562> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>two<MG1417> or<MG2228> three<MG5140> measures<MG3355> each<MG303>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to them, “Fill<MG1072> the waterpots<MG5201> with water<MG5204>.” So<MG2532> they filled<MG1072> them up to the brim<MG507>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And He *said<MG3004> to them, “Draw<MG501> <i>some</i> out<MG501> now<MG3568> and take<MG5342> <i>it</i> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>headwaiter<MG755>.” And they took<MG5342> <i>it to him.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> when<MG5613> the headwaiter<MG755> tasted<MG1089> the water<MG5204> which had become<MG1096> wine<MG3631>, and did not know<MG3609a> where<MG4159> it came<MG1510> from (but the servants<MG1249> who had drawn<MG501> the water<MG5204> knew<MG3609a>), the headwaiter<MG755> *called<MG5455> the groom<MG3566>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>and *said<MG3004> to him, “Every<MG3956> man<MG444> serves<MG5087> the good<MG2570> wine<MG3631> first<MG4413>, and when<MG3752> <i>the guests</i> are<MG3184> drunk<MG3184>, <i>then he serves</i> the poorer<MG1640> <i>wine; but</i> you have kept<MG5083> the good<MG2570> wine<MG3631> until<MG2193> now<MG737>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>This<MG3778> beginning<MG746> of <i>His</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>signs<MG4592> Jesus<MG2424> did<MG4160> in Cana<MG2580> of Galilee<MG1056>, and revealed<MG5319> His glory<MG1391>; and His disciples<MG3101> believed<MG4100> in Him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>After<MG3326> this<MG3778> He went<MG2597> down<MG2597> to Capernaum<MG2746b>, He and His mother<MG3384>, and <i>His</i> brothers<MG80> and His disciples<MG3101>; and they stayed<MG3306> there<MG1563> a few<MG3756, 4183> days<MG2250>. <p class="hdg">First Passover—Cleansing the Temple</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>The Passover<MG3957> of the Jews<MG2453> was near<MG1451>, and Jesus<MG2424> went<MG305> up<MG305> to Jerusalem<MG2414>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And within<MG1722> the temple<MG2413> <i>grounds</i> He found<MG2147> those<MG3588> who were selling<MG4453> oxen<MG1016>, sheep<MG4263b>, and doves<MG4058>, and the money<MG2773> changers<MG2773> seated<MG2521> <i>at their tables.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And He made<MG4160> a whip<MG5416> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>cords<MG4979>, and drove<MG1544b> <i>them</i> all<MG3956> out<MG1544b> of the temple<MG2413> <i>area,</i> with the sheep<MG4263b> and the oxen<MG1016>; and He poured<MG1632a> out<MG1632a> the coins<MG2772> of the money<MG2855> changers<MG2855> and overturned<MG396> their tables<MG5132>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>and to those<MG3588> who were selling<MG4453> the doves<MG4058> He said<MG3004>, “Take<MG142> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> away<MG142> from<MG1782> here<MG1782>; stop<MG3361> making<MG4160> My Father’s<MG3962> house<MG3624> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>place<MG3624> of business<MG1712>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>His disciples<MG3101> remembered<MG3403> that it was written<MG1125>: “ZEAL<MG2205b> FOR YOUR HOUSE<MG3624> WILL CONSUME<MG2719> ME.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>The Jews<MG2453> then<MG3767> said<MG3004> to Him, “What<MG5101> sign<MG4592> do You show<MG1166> us <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>as your authority for doing<MG4160> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> them, “Destroy<MG3089> this<MG3778> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>temple<MG3485>, and in three<MG5140> days<MG2250> I will raise<MG1453> it up<MG1453>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>The Jews<MG2453> then<MG3767> said<MG3004>, “It took forty-six<MG5065b, 2532, 1803> years<MG2094> to build<MG3618> this<MG3778> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>temple<MG3485>, and <i>yet</i> You will raise<MG1453> it up<MG1453> in three<MG5140> days<MG2250>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But He was speaking<MG3004> about<MG4012> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>temple<MG3485> of His body<MG4983>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/2-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>So<MG3767> when<MG3753> He was raised<MG1453> from the dead<MG3498>, His disciples<MG3101> remembered<MG3403> that He said<MG3004> this<MG3778>;
