With more than 84.4 million, India has the largest population of the tribal people in the world. Each tribe has its own identity and culture which varies greatly from each other. The tribes have their distinct socio-economic, cultural, political and religious institutions which are important part and parcel of cultural heritage of India. They have contributed immensely towards the history and culture of India. At present there do approximately six hundred and ninety seven tribes inhabit in different parts of India. More than half of the Indian tribal population is concentrated in the states of Central India which consists of plateaus and mountainous belt between Indo-gangrtic plain to the north and roughly to the Krishna River to the south.. With more than 84.4 million, India has the largest population of the tribal people in the world. Each tribe has its own identity and culture which varies greatly from each other. The tribes have their distinct socio-economic, cultural, political and religious institutions which are important part and parcel of cultural heritage of India. They have contributed immensely towards the history and culture of India. At present there do approximately six hundred and ninety seven tribes inhabit in different parts of India. With more than 84.4 million, India has the largest population of the tribal people in the world. Each tribe has its own identity and culture which varies greatly from each other. The tribes have their distinct socio-economic, cultural, political and religious institutions which are important part and parcel of cultural heritage of India. They have contributed immensely towards the history and culture of India. At present there do approximately six hundred and ninety seven tribes inhabit in different parts of India. More than half of the Indian tribal population is concentrated in the states of Central India which consists of plateaus and mountainous belt between Indo-gangrtic plain to the north and roughly to the Krishna River to the south.. The ethnic heritage of our country has been under constant threats by natural and artificial hazards, urbanization, industrialization, interference of western culture etc. It is a fact that, museums owe a responsibility of protection of cultural heritage through various ways. The Pan-Indian tribal museum of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University was collected more than 1000 objects from Central India. India has the largest tribal group in the World. The tribal people have rich traditions, cultures and heritage with unique life style and customs. The Gond tribe resides in Central India i.e. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh. They have rich Cultural Heritage.
