height="175"/>Australian Boomers and Brisbane "Breakfree" Bullets star, CJ Bruton, will not only coach the South West Metro Pirates in 2007, he will be a major draw card for the league by donning the Pirates colours and playing in the newly revamped Queensland Australian Basketball League.<br/><br/>After being appointed Head Coach in December, CJ has worked tirelessly with the team around his NBL commitments and has decided that he would love to be involved.<br/><br/>"I couldn't resist. We got a young group of talented guys and I like to lead by example and if I can help them improve and maybe realise some of their dreams, then I will be very satisfied," Bruton said.<br/><br/>Bruton has received numerous offers from European clubs to play, so getting him to play in the local State League is a major coup for the Runcorn-based, South-West Metro Basketball club.<br/><br/>Pirates Director of Coaching Aaron Harding is ecstatic that someone of Bruton's profile is going to be on the floor with the team and hopes that the whole community gets behind the club in 2007.<br/><br/>"CJ just loves to be involved and it was his idea to have a run. I mean he has passed up big dollars to stay in Australia and he and his wife are expecting their first child soon, so he wanted to stay sharp in the off season and also contribute to the development of our players," Harding said.<br/><br/>"It is great to see professional athletes giving back to the community, CJ will be involved in a number of clinics and coaching programs with the Pirates in 2007. "<br/><br/>Bruton is taking over after a rebuilding year last year and has a young squad but thinks with one more signing the Pirates will be in a position to challenge for the title in 2007.<br/><br/>"We have got probably one more position to fill, and we are waiting to see how the NBL free agency pans out but we should know very soon. At the end of the day I am here to win and instill that culture throughout the entire club," Bruton said.<br/><br/>Bruton's decision will only strengthen the league in the QABL's first season in the new Full State format.<br/><br/>The Pirates start their 2007 campaign on the 21st April vs the Logan Thunder at the Runcorn Sports Centre, Hill Road, Runcorn.<br/></span></span></td> <td></td>
