also Asaph <i>played</i> loud-sounding cymbals; <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests <i>blew</i> trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then on that day David first entrusted to Asaph and his relatives to give thanks to the LORD [as their chief task]. <p class="hdg">Psalm of Thanksgiving</p><poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>O give thanks to the LORD, call on His name; <t><p class="indent1">Make His deeds known among the peoples. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; <t><p class="indent1">Speak of all His wonders. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Glory in His holy name; <t><p class="indent1">Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Seek the LORD and His strength; <t><p class="indent1">Seek His face continually [longing to be in His presence]. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Remember [with gratitude] His marvelous deeds which He has done, <t><p class="indent1">His miracles and the judgments from His mouth, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>O seed of Israel His servant, <t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Children of Jacob, His chosen ones! <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>He is the LORD our God; <t><p class="indent1">His judgments are in all the earth. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Be mindful of His covenant forever, <t><p class="indent1">The promise which He commanded <i>and</i> established to a thousand generations, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><i>The covenant</i> which He made with Abraham, <t><p class="indent1">And His oath (sworn promise) to Isaac. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>He confirmed it as a statute to Jacob, <t><p class="indent1">And to Israel as an everlasting covenant, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan, <t><p class="indent1">As the portion of your possession <i>and</i> inheritance.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>When you were few in number, <t><p class="indent1">Even a very few, and strangers in it, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>When they wandered from nation to nation, <t><p class="indent1">And from <i>one</i> kingdom to another people, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>He allowed no man to oppress <i>or</i> exploit them, <t><p class="indent1">And, He reproved <i>and</i> punished kings for their sakes, <i>saying</i>, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>“Do not touch My anointed ones, <t><p class="indent1">And do My prophets no harm.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Sing to the LORD, all the earth; <t><p class="indent1">Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Declare His glory among the nations, <t><p class="indent1">His marvelous works among all peoples. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; <t><p class="indent1">He is also to be feared [with awe-filled reverence] above all gods. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>For all the gods of the peoples are [lifeless] idols, <t><p class="indent1">But the LORD made the heavens. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Splendor and majesty are [found] in His presence; <t><p class="indent1">Strength and joy are [found] in His place (sanctuary). <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, <t><p class="indent1">Ascribe to the LORD glory <i>and</i> honor and strength. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Ascribe to the LORD the glory <i>and</i> honor due His name; <t><p class="indent1">Bring an offering [of thanksgiving], and come before Him; <t><p class="indent1">Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Tremble [reverently] before Him, all the earth; <t><p class="indent1">The world is firmly established, it will not be moved. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; <t><p class="indent1">And let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Let the sea roar, and all the things that fill it; <t><p class="indent1">Let the field rejoice, and all that is in it. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD; <t><p class="indent1">For He comes to judge <i>and</i> govern the earth. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>O give thanks to the LORD, for <i>He is</i> good; <t><p class="indent1">For His lovingkindness endures forever. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Then say, “Save us, O God of our salvation; <t><p class="indent1">Gather us together and rescue us from the nations, <t><p class="indent1">That we may give thanks to Your holy name, <t><p class="indent1">And glory in Your praise.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, <t><p class="indent1">Forever and ever. <p class="R">And all the people said, “Amen,” and praised the LORD. <p class="hdg">Worship before the Ark</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>So David left Asaph and his relatives there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister before the ark continually, as each day’s work required; <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>and Obed-edom with his sixty-eight relatives; also Obed-edom the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah, were to be gatekeepers. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span><i>David left</i> Zadok the priest and his relatives the priests before the dwelling place (tabernacle) of the LORD in the high place which was at Gibeon, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>to offer burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering continually, morning and evening, in accordance with all that is written in the Law of the LORD, which He commanded Israel. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>With them were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen and designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, for His lovingkindness endures forever. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/16-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>With them were Heman and Jeduthun <i>with</i> trumpets and cymbals for those who <i>were to</i> sound aloud, and instruments for [accompanying] the songs of God.
