The existence of suitable and accessible stations is one of the requirements that leads to better performance and plays a significant role in the economic, social, political, and cultural development of urban areas. This paper aims to propose a framework for locating railway passenger stations. This research used descriptive-analytical methods and library tools to answer which definitions and theoretical approaches are suitable for the location of railway passenger stations. The results showed that theoretical approaches such as Transit-Oriented Development and Urban Regeneration are of the utmost importance theoretical bases in the field of research. Moreover, we studied three stations in Iran to find out about real trends and criteria in this research. This study also proposed four major criteria including accessibility, development, rail related and economics, and environmental harmony. Ultimately with an emphasis on the proposed criteria, the study concludes that the combination of Transit-Oriented Development and Urban Regeneration is the most suitable framework to locate railway passenger stations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20passenger%20station" title="railway passenger station">railway passenger station</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20station" title=" railway station"> railway station</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=site%20selection" title=" site selection"> site selection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transit-oriented%20development" title=" transit-oriented development"> transit-oriented development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20regeneration" title=" urban regeneration"> urban regeneration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138996/a-framework-for-railway-passenger-station-site-selection-using-transit-oriented-development-and-urban-regeneration-approaches" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138996.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">269</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1143</span> Quantitative Analysis of the Functional Characteristics of Urban Complexes Based on Station-City Integration: Fifteen Case Studies of European, North American, and East Asian Railway Stations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dai%20Yizheng">Dai Yizheng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chen-Yang%20Zhang"> Chen-Yang Zhang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> As station-city integration has been widely accepted as a strategy for mixed-use development, a quantitative analysis of the functional characteristics of urban complexes based on station-city integration is urgently needed. Taking 15 railway stations in European, North American, and East Asian cities as the research objects, this study analyzes their functional proportion, functional positioning, and functional correlation with respect to four categories of functional facilities for both railway passenger flow and subway passenger flow. We found that (1) the functional proportion of urban complexes was mainly concentrated in three models: complementary, dominant, and equilibrium. (2) The mathematical model affected by the functional proportion was created to evaluate the functional positioning of an urban complex at three scales: station area, city, and region. (3) The strength of the correlation between the functional area and passenger flow was revealed via data analysis using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Finally, the findings of this study provide a valuable reference for research on similar topics in other countries that are developing station-city integration. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20complex" title="urban complex">urban complex</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=station-city%20integration" title=" station-city integration"> station-city integration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed-use" title=" mixed-use"> mixed-use</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=function" title=" function"> function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantitative%20analysis" title=" quantitative analysis"> quantitative analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146606/quantitative-analysis-of-the-functional-characteristics-of-urban-complexes-based-on-station-city-integration-fifteen-case-studies-of-european-north-american-and-east-asian-railway-stations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146606.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">115</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1142</span> Predicting Destination Station Based on Public Transit Passenger Profiling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xuyang%20Song">Xuyang Song</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jun%20Yin"> Jun Yin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The smart card has been an extremely universal tool in public transit. It collects a large amount of data on buses, urban railway transit, and ferries and provides possibilities for passenger profiling. This paper combines offline analysis of passenger profiling and real-time prediction to propose a method that can accurately predict the destination station in real-time when passengers tag on. Firstly, this article constructs a static database of user travel characteristics after identifying passenger travel patterns based on the Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN). The dual travel passenger habits are identified: OD travel habits and D station travel habits. Then a rapid real-time prediction algorithm based on Transit Passenger Profiling is proposed, which can predict the destination of in-board passengers. This article combines offline learning with online prediction, providing a technical foundation for real-time passenger flow prediction, monitoring and simulation, and short-term passenger behavior and demand prediction. This technology facilitates the efficient and real-time acquisition of passengers' travel destinations and demand. The last, an actual case was simulated and demonstrated feasibility and efficiency. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=travel%20behavior" title="travel behavior">travel behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=destination%20prediction" title=" destination prediction"> destination prediction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20transit" title=" public transit"> public transit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=passenger%20profiling" title=" passenger profiling"> passenger profiling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190243/predicting-destination-station-based-on-public-transit-passenger-profiling" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190243.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">19</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1141</span> An Analytical Study on the Vibration Reduction Method of Railway Station Using TPU</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jinho%20Hur">Jinho Hur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Minjung%20Shin"> Minjung Shin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heekyu%20Kim"> Heekyu Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In many places, new railway constructions in the city are being used to build a viaduct station to take advantage of the space below the line, for difficulty of securing railway site and disconnections of areas. The space under the viaduct has limited to use by noise and vibration. In order to use it for various purposes, reducing noise and vibration is required. The vibration reduction method for new structures is recently developed enough to use as accommodation, but the reduction method for existing structures is still far-off. In this study, it suggests vibration reduction method by filling vibration reduction material to column members which is path of structure-bone-noise from trains run. Because most of railroad stations are reinforced concrete structures. It compares vibration reduction of station applied the method and original station by FEM analysis. As a result, reduction of vibration acceleration level in bandwidth 15~30Hz can be reduced. Therefore, using this method for viaduct railroad station, vibration of station is expected to be reduced. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structure%20borne%20noise" title="structure borne noise">structure borne noise</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TPU" title=" TPU"> TPU</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=viaduct%20rail%20station" title=" viaduct rail station"> viaduct rail station</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vibration%20reduction%20method" title=" vibration reduction method"> vibration reduction method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24122/an-analytical-study-on-the-vibration-reduction-method-of-railway-station-using-tpu" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24122.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">542</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1140</span> Analysis of Urban Rail Transit Station's Accessibility Reliability: A Case Study of Hangzhou Metro, China</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jin-Qu%20Chen">Jin-Qu Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jie%20Liu"> Jie Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yong%20Yin"> Yong Yin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zi-Qi%20Ju"> Zi-Qi Ju</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Yao%20Wu"> Yu-Yao Wu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Increase in travel fare and station’s failure will have huge impact on passengers’ travel. The Urban Rail Transit (URT) station’s accessibility reliability under increasing travel fare and station failure are analyzed in this paper. Firstly, the passenger’s travel path is resumed based on stochastic user equilibrium and Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) data. Secondly, calculating station’s importance by combining LeaderRank algorithm and Ratio of Station Affected Passenger Volume (RSAPV), and then the station’s accessibility evaluation indicators are proposed based on the analysis of passenger’s travel characteristic. Thirdly, station’s accessibility under different scenarios are measured and rate of accessibility change is proposed as station’s accessibility reliability indicator. Finally, the accessibility of Hangzhou metro stations is analyzed by the formulated models. The result shows that Jinjiang station and Liangzhu station are the most important and convenient station in the Hangzhou metro, respectively. Station failure and increase in travel fare and station failure have huge impact on station’s accessibility, except for increase in travel fare. Stations in Hangzhou metro Line 1 have relatively worse accessibility reliability and Fengqi Road station’s accessibility reliability is weakest. For Hangzhou metro operational department, constructing new metro line around Line 1 and protecting Line 1’s station preferentially can effective improve the accessibility reliability of Hangzhou metro. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=automatic%20fare%20collection%20data" title="automatic fare collection data">automatic fare collection data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AFC" title=" AFC"> AFC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=station%E2%80%99s%20accessibility%20reliability" title=" station’s accessibility reliability"> station’s accessibility reliability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastic%20user%20equilibrium" title=" stochastic user equilibrium"> stochastic user equilibrium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20rail%20transit" title=" urban rail transit"> urban rail transit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=URT" title=" URT"> URT</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/113542/analysis-of-urban-rail-transit-stations-accessibility-reliability-a-case-study-of-hangzhou-metro-china" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/113542.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">135</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1139</span> Evaluating Accessibility to Bangkok Mass Transit System: Case Study of Saphan Taksin BTS Station </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rungpansa%20Noichan">Rungpansa Noichan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bart%20Julien%20Dewancker"> Bart Julien Dewancker</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Access to the mass transit system, including rapid elevated and underground transport has become an outstanding issue for many cities. The mass transit access development should focus on behavioral responses of the different passenger groups. The survey was to find out the passenger attitudes and satisfaction for access to the BTS station, and the result shows several factors that influence the passenger choice of using the BTS as a public transportation mode and passenger’s opinion that needs to concern for the development mass transit system and accessibility performance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20transportation" title="urban transportation">urban transportation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=user%20satisfaction" title=" user satisfaction"> user satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accessibility" title=" accessibility"> accessibility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bangkok%20mass%20transit" title=" Bangkok mass transit"> Bangkok mass transit</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94546/evaluating-accessibility-to-bangkok-mass-transit-system-case-study-of-saphan-taksin-bts-station" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94546.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">268</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1138</span> Optimization Method of the Number of Berth at Bus Rapid Transit Stations Based on Passenger Flow Demand</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wei%20Kunkun">Wei Kunkun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cao%20Wanyang"> Cao Wanyang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xu%20Yujie"> Xu Yujie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qiao%20Yuzhi"> Qiao Yuzhi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liu%20Yingning"> Liu Yingning</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The reasonable design of bus parking spaces can improve the traffic capacity of the station and reduce traffic congestion. In order to reasonably determine the number of berths at BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) stops, it is based on the actual bus rapid transit station observation data, scheduling data, and passenger flow data. Optimize the number of station berths from the perspective of optimizing the balance of supply and demand at the site. Combined with the classical capacity calculation model, this paper first analyzes the important factors affecting the traffic capacity of BRT stops by using SPSS PRO and MATLAB programming software, namely the distribution of BRT stops and the distribution of BRT stop time. Secondly, the method of calculating the number of the classic human capital management (HCM) model is optimized based on the actual passenger demand of the station, and the method applicable to the actual number of station berths is proposed. Taking Gangding Station of Zhongshan Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Corridor in Guangzhou as an example, based on the calculation method proposed in this paper, the number of berths of sub-station 1, sub-station 2 and sub-station 3 is 2, which reduces the road space of the station by 33.3% compared with the previous berth 3 of each sub-station, and returns to social vehicles. Therefore, under the condition of ensuring the passenger flow demand of BRT stations, the road space of the station is reduced, and the road is returned to social vehicles, the traffic capacity of social vehicles is improved, and the traffic capacity and efficiency of the BRT corridor system are improved as a whole. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20transportation" title="urban transportation">urban transportation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bus%20rapid%20transit%20station" title=" bus rapid transit station"> bus rapid transit station</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HCM%20model" title=" HCM model"> HCM model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capacity" title=" capacity"> capacity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=number%20of%20berths" title=" number of berths"> number of berths</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165595/optimization-method-of-the-number-of-berth-at-bus-rapid-transit-stations-based-on-passenger-flow-demand" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165595.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">95</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1137</span> Analysis of Spatiotemporal Efficiency and Fairness of Railway Passenger Transport Network Based on Space Syntax: Taking Yangtze River Delta as an Example</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lin%20Dong">Lin Dong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fei%20Shi"> Fei Shi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Based on the railway network and the principles of space syntax, the study attempts to reconstruct the spatial relationship of the passenger network connections from space and time perspective. According to the travel time data of main stations in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration obtained by the Internet, the topological drawing of railway network under different time sections is constructed. With the comprehensive index composed of connection and integration, the accessibility and network operation efficiency of the railway network in different time periods is calculated, while the fairness of the network is analyzed by the fairness indicators constructed with the integration and location entropy from the perspective of horizontal and vertical fairness respectively. From the analysis of the efficiency and fairness of the railway passenger transport network, the study finds: (1) There is a strong regularity in regional system accessibility change; (2) The problems of efficiency and fairness are different in different time periods; (3) The improvement of efficiency will lead to the decline of horizontal fairness to a certain extent, while from the perspective of vertical fairness, the supply-demand situation has changed smoothly with time; (4) The network connection efficiency of Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions is higher than that of the western regions such as Anqing and Chizhou; (5) The marginalization of Nantong, Yancheng, Yangzhou, Taizhou is obvious. The study explores the application of spatial syntactic theory in regional traffic analysis, in order to provide a reference for the development of urban agglomeration transportation network. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spatial%20syntax" title="spatial syntax">spatial syntax</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=the%20Yangtze%20River%20Delta" title=" the Yangtze River Delta"> the Yangtze River Delta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20passenger%20time" title=" railway passenger time"> railway passenger time</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=efficiency%20and%20fairness" title=" efficiency and fairness"> efficiency and fairness</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117668/analysis-of-spatiotemporal-efficiency-and-fairness-of-railway-passenger-transport-network-based-on-space-syntax-taking-yangtze-river-delta-as-an-example" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117668.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">136</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1136</span> Modelling of Passengers Exchange between Trains and Platforms</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guillaume%20Craveur">Guillaume Craveur</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The evaluation of the passenger exchange time is necessary for railway operators in order to optimize and dimension rail traffic. Several influential parameters are identified and studied. Each parameter leads to a modeling completed with the buildingEXODUS software. The objective is the modelling of passenger exchanges measured by passenger counting. Population size is dimensioned using passenger counting files which are a report of the train service and contain following useful informations: number of passengers who get on and leave the train, exchange time. These information are collected by sensors placed at the top of each train door. With passenger counting files it is possible to know how many people are engaged in the exchange and how long is the exchange, but it is not possible to know passenger flow of the door. All the information about observed exchanges are thus not available. For this reason and in order to minimize inaccuracies, only short exchanges (less than 30 seconds) with a maximum of people are performed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=passengers%20exchange" title="passengers exchange">passengers exchange</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=numerical%20tools" title=" numerical tools"> numerical tools</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rolling%20stock" title=" rolling stock"> rolling stock</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=platforms" title=" platforms"> platforms</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72046/modelling-of-passengers-exchange-between-trains-and-platforms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72046.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">228</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1135</span> Energy Consumption and GHG Production in Railway and Road Passenger Regional Transport</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Martin%20Kendra">Martin Kendra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomas%20Skrucany"> Tomas Skrucany</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jozef%20Gnap"> Jozef Gnap</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jan%20Ponicky"> Jan Ponicky</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Paper deals with the modeling and simulation of energy consumption and GHG production of two different modes of regional passenger transport – road and railway. Other than that based on World Air Quality Report in 2019 showed DKI Jakarta's air pollutant concentrate 49.4 µg and the 5th highest air pollutant in the world. In the urban city nowadays, the mobility rate is high enough and the efficiency for sustainability assessment in transport infrastructure development is needed. This efficiency is the important key for sustainable infrastructure development. DKI Jakarta is nowadays in the process of constructing the railway infrastructure to support the transportation system. The problems appearing are the railway infrastructure networks and the service in DKI Jakarta already planned based on sustainability factors or not. Therefore, the aim of this research is to make the evaluation of railways infrastructure networks performance and services in DKI Jakarta regards on the railway sustainability key factors. Further, this evaluation will be used to make the railway sustainability assessment framework and to offer some of the alternative solutions to improve railway transportation sustainability in DKI Jakarta. Firstly a very detailed literature review of papers that have focused on railway sustainability factors and their improvements of railway sustainability, published in the scientific journal in the period 2011 until 2021. Regarding the sustainability factors from the literature review, further, it is used to assess the current condition of railway infrastructure in DKI Jakarta. The evaluation will be using a Likert rate questionnaire and directed to the transportation railway expert and the passenger. Furthermore, the mapping and evaluation rate based on the sustainability factors will be compared to the effect factors using the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP). This research offers the network's performance and service rate impact on the sustainability aspect and the passenger willingness for using the rail public transportation in DKI Jakarta. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transportation%20sustainability" title="transportation sustainability">transportation sustainability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20transportation" title=" railway transportation"> railway transportation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability" title=" sustainability"> sustainability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DKI%20Jakarta" title=" DKI Jakarta"> DKI Jakarta</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145104/evaluation-of-railway-network-and-service-performance-based-on-transportation-sustainability-in-dki-jakarta" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145104.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">163</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1133</span> Analysis of Travel Behavior Patterns of Frequent Passengers after the Section Shutdown of Urban Rail Transit - Taking the Huaqiao Section of Shanghai Metro Line 11 Shutdown During the COVID-19 Epidemic as an Example</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hongyun%20Li">Hongyun Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhibin%20Jiang"> Zhibin Jiang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The travel of passengers in the urban rail transit network is influenced by changes in network structure and operational status, and the response of individual travel preferences to these changes also varies. Firstly, the influence of the suspension of urban rail transit line sections on passenger travel along the line is analyzed. Secondly, passenger travel trajectories containing multi-dimensional semantics are described based on network UD data. Next, passenger panel data based on spatio-temporal sequences is constructed to achieve frequent passenger clustering. Then, the Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) is used to model and identify the changes in travel modes of different types of frequent passengers. Finally, taking Shanghai Metro Line 11 as an example, the travel behavior patterns of frequent passengers after the Huaqiao section shutdown during the COVID-19 epidemic are analyzed. The results showed that after the section shutdown, most passengers would transfer to the nearest Anting station for boarding, while some passengers would transfer to other stations for boarding or cancel their travels directly. Among the passengers who transferred to Anting station for boarding, most of passengers maintained the original normalized travel mode, a small number of passengers waited for a few days before transferring to Anting station for boarding, and only a few number of passengers stopped traveling at Anting station or transferred to other stations after a few days of boarding on Anting station. The results can provide a basis for understanding urban rail transit passenger travel patterns and improving the accuracy of passenger flow prediction in abnormal operation scenarios. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20rail%20transit" title="urban rail transit">urban rail transit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=section%20shutdown" title=" section shutdown"> section shutdown</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frequent%20passenger" title=" frequent passenger"> frequent passenger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=travel%20behavior%20pattern" title=" travel behavior pattern"> travel behavior pattern</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174827/analysis-of-travel-behavior-patterns-of-frequent-passengers-after-the-section-shutdown-of-urban-rail-transit-taking-the-huaqiao-section-of-shanghai-metro-line-11-shutdown-during-the-covid-19-epidemic-as-an-example" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174827.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1132</span> An Architectural Study on the Railway Station Buildings in Malaysia during British Era, 1885-1957 </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nor%20Hafizah%20Anuar">Nor Hafizah Anuar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Gul%20Akdeniz"> M. The Malay Peninsula which is strategically situated between the Straits of Malacca and the South China Sea makes it an ideal location for trade. Malacca became an important trading port whereby merchants from around the world stopover to exchange various products. The Portuguese ruled Malacca for 130 years (1511–1641) and for the next century and a half (1641–1824), the Dutch endeavoured to maintain an economic monopoly along the coasts of Malaya. Malacca came permanently under British rule under the Anglo-Dutch Treaty, 1824. Up to Malaysian independence in 1957, Malaya saw a great influx of Chinese and Indian migrants as workers to support its growing industrial needs facilitated by the British. The growing tin ore mining and rubber industry resulted as the reason of the development of the railways as urgency to transport it from one place to another. The existence of railway transportation becomes more significant when the city started to bloom and the British started to build grandeur buildings that have different functions; administrative buildings, town and city halls, railway stations, public works department, courts, and post offices.<o:p> </o:p></span> <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malaysia" title="Malaysia">Malaysia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=station%20building" title=" station building"> station building</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=architectural%20styles" title=" architectural styles"> architectural styles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=facade%20elements" title=" facade elements"> facade elements</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74550/an-architectural-study-on-the-railway-station-buildings-in-malaysia-during-british-era-1885-1957" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74550.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">166</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1131</span> A Quantification Method of Attractiveness of Stations and an Estimation Method of Number of Passengers Taking into Consideration the Attractiveness of the Station</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naoya%20Ozaki">Naoya Ozaki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takuya%20Watanabe"> Takuya Watanabe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ryosuke%20Matsumoto"> Ryosuke Matsumoto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noriko%20Fukasawa"> Noriko Fukasawa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the metropolitan areas in Japan, in many stations, shopping areas are set up, and escalators and elevators are installed to make the stations be barrier-free. Further, many areas around the stations are being redeveloped. Railway business operators want to know how much effect these circumstances have on attractiveness of the station or number of passengers using the station. So, we performed a questionnaire survey of the station users in the metropolitan areas for finding factors to affect the attractiveness of stations. Then, based on the analysis of the survey, we developed a method to quantitatively evaluate attractiveness of the stations. We also developed an estimation method for number of passengers based on combination of attractiveness of the station quantitatively evaluated and the residential and labor population around the station. It allows traveling long distances, encouraging urban sprawl. To counteract this trend, the train is often proposed as an alternative to the car. Simultaneously, the favoring of urban development around public transport nodes such as railway stations is one of the main issues of the coordination between urban planning and transportation and the keystone of the sustainable urban development implementation. In this context, this paper focuses on the study of the spatial structuring dynamics around the railway. Specifically, it is a question of studying the demographic dynamics in rail corridors of Nantes, Angers and Le Mans (Western France) basing on the radiation of railway stations. Consequently, the methodology is concentrated on the knowledge of demographic weight and gains of these corridors, the index of urban intensity and the mobility behaviors (workers’ travels, scholars' travels, modal practices of travels). The perimeter considered to define the rail corridors includes the communes of urban area which have a railway station and communes with an access time to the railway station is less than fifteen minutes by car (time specified by the Regional Transport Scheme of Travelers). The main tools used are the statistical data from the census of population, the basis of detailed tables and databases on mobility flows. The study reveals that the population is not tightened along rail corridors and train use is minimal despite the presence of a nearby railway station. These results lead to propose guidelines to make the train, a real vector of mobility across the rail corridors. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coordination%20between%20urban%20planning%20and%20transportation" title="coordination between urban planning and transportation">coordination between urban planning and transportation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rail%20corridors" title=" rail corridors"> rail corridors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20stations" title=" railway stations"> railway stations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=travels" title=" travels"> travels</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57170/rail-corridors-between-minimal-use-of-train-and-unsystematic-tightening-of-population-a-methodological-essay" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57170.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">243</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1129</span> Evaluating Accessibility to Bangkok Mass Transit System: Case Study of Saphan Taksin Bangkok Mass Transit System Station</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rungpansa%20Noichan">Rungpansa Noichan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bart%20Julian%20Dewancker"> Bart Julian Dewancker</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Thailand facing the transportation issue because of the rapid economic development. It is well known that PM levels in railways metro system are mainly produced by mechanical friction at the rail-wheel-brake interactions and by the PM re-suspension caused by the turbulence generated by the train passage, which causes dangerous problems for passenger health. Starting from these considerations, the aim of this research was twofold: i) to investigate the particulate matter concentrations in a ‘traditional’ railways metro system; ii) to investigate the particulate matter concentrations of a ‘high quality’ metro system equipped with design devices useful for reducing PM concentrations: platform screen doors, rubber-tyred and an advanced ventilation system. Two measurement surveys were performed: one in the ‘traditional’ metro system of Naples (Italy) and onother in the ‘high quality’ rubber-tyred metro system of Turin (Italy). Experimental results regarding the ‘traditional’ metro system of Naples, show that the average PM10 concentrations measured in the underground station platforms are very high and range between 172 and 262 µg/m3 whilst the average PM2,5 concentrations range between 45 and 60 µg/m3, with dangerous problems for passenger health. By contrast the measurements results regarding the ‘high quality’ metro system of Turin show that: i) the average PM10 (PM2.5) concentrations measured in the underground station platform is 22.7 µg/m3 (16.0 µg/m3) with a standard deviation of 9.6 µg/m3 (7.6 µg/m3); ii) the indoor concentrations (both for PM10 and for PM2.5) are statistically lower from those measured in outdoors (with a ratio equal to 0.9-0.8), meaning that the indoor air quality is greater than those in urban ambient; iii) that PM concentrations in underground stations are correlated to the trains passage; iv) the inside trains concentrations (both for PM10 and for PM2.5) are statistically lower from those measured at station platform (with a ratio equal to 0.7-0.8), meaning that inside trains the use of air conditioning system could promote a greater circulation that clean the air. The comparison among the two case studies allow to conclude that the metro system designed with PM reduction devices allow to reduce PM concentration up to 11 times against a ‘traditional’ one. From these results, it is possible to conclude that PM concentrations measured in a ‘high quality’ metro system are significantly lower than the ones measured in a ‘traditional’ railway metro systems. This result allows possessing the bases for the design of useful devices for retrofitting metro systems all around the world. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20quality" title="air quality">air quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pollutant%20emission" title=" pollutant emission"> pollutant emission</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20in%20public%20transport" title=" quality in public transport"> quality in public transport</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=underground%20railway" title=" underground railway"> underground railway</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=external%20cost%20reduction" title=" external cost reduction"> external cost reduction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transportation%20planning" title=" transportation planning"> transportation planning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70754/system-devices-to-reduce-particulate-matter-concentrations-in-railway-metro-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70754.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">210</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1127</span> Low-Level Modeling for Optimal Train Routing and Scheduling in Busy Railway Stations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quoc%20Khanh%20Dang">Quoc Khanh Dang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20Bourdeaud%E2%80%99huy"> Thomas Bourdeaud’huy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaled%20Mesghouni"> Khaled Mesghouni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Armand%20Toguy%C2%B4eni"> Armand Toguy´eni</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper studies a train routing and scheduling problem for busy railway stations. Our objective is to allow trains to be routed in dense areas that are reaching saturation. Unlike traditional methods that allocate all resources to setup a route for a train and until the route is freed, our work focuses on the use of resources as trains progress through the railway node. This technique allows a larger number of trains to be routed simultaneously in a railway node and thus reduces their current saturation. To deal with this problem, this study proposes an abstract model and a mixed-integer linear programming formulation to solve it. The applicability of our method is illustrated on a didactic example. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=busy%20railway%20stations" title="busy railway stations">busy railway stations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed-integer%20linear%20programming" title=" mixed-integer linear programming"> mixed-integer linear programming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=offline%20railway%20station%20management" title=" offline railway station management"> offline railway station management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=train%20platforming" title=" train platforming"> train platforming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=train%20routing" title=" train routing"> train routing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=train%20scheduling" title=" train scheduling"> train scheduling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/108783/low-level-modeling-for-optimal-train-routing-and-scheduling-in-busy-railway-stations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/108783.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">253</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1126</span> Active Linear Quadratic Gaussian Secondary Suspension Control of Flexible Bodied Railway Vehicle</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kaushalendra%20K.%20Khadanga">Kaushalendra K. To analyze the effect of vibration on vehicle ride quality, a vertical model of a six degree of freedom railway passenger vehicle, with front and rear suspension, is built. It includes car body flexible effects and vertical rigid modes. A second order linear shaping filter is constructed to model Gaussian white noise into random rail excitation. The temporal correlation between the front and rear wheels is given by a second order Pade approximation. The complete track and the vehicle model are then designed. An active secondary suspension system based on a Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) optimal control method is designed. In the absence of systematic studies within the infrastructure network of German Rail, little is known about the causes of such embankment fires. Since a further increase in these hazards is to be expected in the near future, there is a need for a sound knowledge of triggers and drivers for embankment fires as well as methodical knowledge of prediction tools. Two predictable future trends speak for the increasing relevance of the topic: through the intensification of the use of rail for passenger and freight transport (e.g..: doubling of annual passenger numbers by 2030, compared to 2019), there will be more rail traffic and also more maintenance and construction work on the railways. This research project approach uses satellite data to identify historical embankment fires along rail network infrastructure. The team links data from these fires with infrastructure and weather data and trains a machine-learning model with the aim of predicting fire hazards on sections of the track. Companies reflect on the results and use them on a pilot basis in precautionary measures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=embankment%20fires" title="embankment fires">embankment fires</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20maintenance" title=" railway maintenance"> railway maintenance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20sensing" title=" remote sensing"> remote sensing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=VIIRS%20data" title=" VIIRS data"> VIIRS data</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160845/prediction-of-embankment-fires-at-railway-infrastructure-using-machine-learning-geospatial-data-and-viirs-remote-sensing-imagery" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160845.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">89</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1124</span> Measurement of Influence of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Efficiency of Japan’s Railway Companies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hideaki%20Endo">Hideaki Endo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mika%20Goto"> Mika Goto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected railway businesses. The number of railway passengers decreased due to the decline in the number of commuters and business travelers to avoid crowded trains and a sharp drop in inbound tourists visiting Japan. This has affected not only railway businesses but also related businesses, including hotels, leisure businesses, and retail businesses at station buildings. In 2021, the companies were divided into profitable and loss-making companies. This division suggests that railway companies, particularly loss-making companies, needed to decrease operational inefficiency. To measure the impact of COVID-19 and discuss the sustainable management strategies of railway companies, we examine the cost inefficiency of Japanese listed railway companies by applying stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) to their operational and financial data. First, we employ the stochastic frontier cost function approach to measure inefficiency. The cost frontier function is formulated as a Cobb–Douglas type, and we estimated parameters and variables for inefficiency. This study uses panel data comprising 26 Japanese-listed railway companies from 2005 to 2020. This period includes several events deteriorating the business environment, such as the financial crisis from 2007 to 2008 and the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, and we compare those impacts with those of the COVID-19 pandemic after 2020. Second, we identify the characteristics of the best-practice railway companies and examine the drivers of cost inefficiencies. Third, we analyze the factors influencing cost inefficiency by comparing the profiles of the top 10 railway companies and others before and during the pandemic. Finally, we examine the relationship between cost inefficiency and the implementation of efficiency measures for each railway company. We obtained the following four findings. First, most Japanese railway companies showed the lowest cost inefficiency (most efficient) in 2014 and the highest in 2020 (least efficient) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second worst occurred in 2009 when it was affected by the financial crisis. However, we did not observe a significant impact of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. This is because no railway company was influenced by the earthquake in this operating area, except for JR-EAST. Second, the best-practice railway companies are KEIO and TOKYU. The main reason for their good performance is that both operate in and near the Tokyo metropolitan area, which is densely populated. Third, we found that non-best-practice companies had a larger decrease in passenger kilometers than best-practice companies. This indicates that passengers made fewer long-distance trips because they refrained from inter-prefectural travel during the pandemic. Finally, we found that companies that implement more efficiency improvement measures had higher cost efficiency and they effectively used their customer databases through proactive DX investments in marketing and asset management. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COVID-19%20pandemic" title="COVID-19 pandemic">COVID-19 pandemic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastic%20frontier%20analysis" title=" stochastic frontier analysis"> stochastic frontier analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20sector" title=" railway sector"> railway sector</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cost%20efficiency" title=" cost efficiency"> cost efficiency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/180690/measurement-of-influence-of-the-covid-19-pandemic-on-efficiency-of-japans-railway-companies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/180690.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">74</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1123</span> Analysis of the CO2 Emissions of Public Passenger Transport in Tianjin City of China</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tao%20Zhao">Tao Zhao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xianshuo%20Xu"> Xianshuo Xu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Low-carbon public passenger transport is an important part of low carbon city. The CO2 emissions of public passenger transport in Tianjin from 1995 to 2010 are estimated with IPCC CO2 counting method, which shows that the total CO2 emissions of Tianjin public passenger transport have gradually become stable at 1,425.1 thousand tons. And then the CO2 emissions of the buses, taxies, and rail transits are calculated respectively. A CO2 emission of 829.9 thousand tons makes taxies become the largest CO2 emissions source among the public passenger transport in Tianjin. Combining with passenger volume, this paper analyzes the CO2 emissions proportion of the buses, taxies, and rail transits compare the passenger transport rate with the proportion of CO2 emissions, as well as the CO2 emissions change of per 10,000 people. The passenger volume proportion of bus among the three public means of transport is 72.62% which is much higher than its CO2 emissions proportion of 36.01%, with the minimum number of CO2 emissions per 10,000 people of 4.90 tons. The countermeasures to reduce CO2 emissions of public passenger transport in Tianjin are to develop rail transit, update vehicles and use alternative fuel vehicles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20passenger%20transport" title="public passenger transport">public passenger transport</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carbon%20emissions" title=" carbon emissions"> carbon emissions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=countermeasures" title=" countermeasures"> countermeasures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=China" title=" China"> China</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26131/analysis-of-the-co2-emissions-of-public-passenger-transport-in-tianjin-city-of-china" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26131.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">429</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1122</span> Long-Term Modal Changes in International Traffic - Example of the Polish Eastern Border</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomasz%20Komornicki">Tomasz Komornicki</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The possibilities of cross-border traffic depend on the degree of permeability of a given border as well as the state of the existing transport infrastructure. The aim of this paper is to identify the impact of economic transformation, EU accession, and infrastructure development on modal shifts in border traffic through the Polish eastern boundary. In the 1980s railway was still the main mode of cross-border transport in Poland. At the beginning of the 1990s, the role of the road and rail transborder passenger traffic was similar, but since 1993, the role of rail was decreasing. The general decline in rail infrastructure in Poland continued uninterruptedly until accession to the European Union. The slow opposite trend can be observed later as a result of the inflow of European funds. In the countries neighbouring Poland from the east, these processes took place with some delay, and the loss of railway position was not so drastic. Therefore, cross-border railway connections have been maintained for quite a long time since the break-up of the USSR. However, finally, cross-border rail transport proved to be completely inflexible in relation to both economic, geopolitical, and transport transformations. It has been shown that the current modal split of the passenger border traffic was shaped by the following factors: a) closure of many transborder railway lines, especially local ones; b) the signing of an agreement on minor border traffic with Ukraine; c) rapidly growing number of citizens of Ukraine working in Poland (unofficial transportation of workers by car directly to their workplaces in Poland); d) the emergence of low-cost air connections between Ukraine and Poland and the growing role of air transport in the Russia-Poland relationship. The summary points to the possibility of a renewed increase in the importance of rail transport on the eastern border of the European Union. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modal%20change" title="modal change">modal change</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=border" title=" border"> border</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rail%20transport" title=" rail transport"> rail transport</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Poland" title=" Poland"> Poland</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138771/long-term-modal-changes-in-international-traffic-example-of-the-polish-eastern-border" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138771.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">200</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1121</span> Optimal Scheduling of Trains in Complex National Scale Railway Networks </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sanat%20Ramesh">Sanat Ramesh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tarun%20Dutt"> Tarun Dutt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abhilasha%20Aswal"> Abhilasha Aswal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anushka%20Chandrababu"> Anushka Chandrababu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G.%20N.%20Srinivasa%20Prasanna"> G. We present heuristics based on a Mixed Integer Program (MIP) formulation for local optimization. These methods provide flexibility in scheduling new trains with varying speed and delays and improve utilization of infrastructure. We propose methods that provide a robust solution with hundreds of trains being scheduled over a portion of the railway network without significant increases in delay. We also provide techniques to validate the nominal schedules thus generated over global correlated variations in travel times thereby enabling us to detect conflicts arising due to delays. Our validation results which assume only the support of the arrival and departure time distributions takes an order of few minutes for a portion of the network and is computationally efficient to handle the entire network. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed%20integer%20programming" title="mixed integer programming">mixed integer programming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title=" optimization"> optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20network" title=" railway network"> railway network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=train%20scheduling" title=" train scheduling"> train scheduling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91420/optimal-scheduling-of-trains-in-complex-national-scale-railway-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/91420.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">158</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1120</span> The German Air Passenger Tax: An Empirical Analysis of Tourism Outflows</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paul%20Gurr">Paul Gurr</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maik%20Moser"> Maik Moser</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In Europe, some countries recently abolished air passenger taxes (APT), while others issued or consider issuing an APT. From a fiscal perspective, APT can benefit the environment, while generating a vast amount of tax revenue with relatively low administration costs. However, they may have significant negative effects on the economy. Focusing on the German air passenger tax issued 2011, this work estimates the elasticity of tourism outflows using data on passenger departures from German airports between 2010 and 2016 aggregated by destination country. The results are obtained by estimating a model of the demand for outbound tourism. In line with theory, the regression results indicate a negative relationship between taxes and departures from Germany. Furthermore, on average, an increase of the air passenger tax rate results in a relatively higher decrease of passenger departures. The elasticity of tourism outflows can be used to estimate tax revenue changes and hence evaluate possible policy actions. Neglecting environmental reasons, the results suggest that tax revenue might be maximized by reducing the air passenger tax rate. Besides Germany, this work is also important for countries which have or consider implementing APT. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20passenger%20tax" title="air passenger tax">air passenger tax</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Germany" title=" Germany"> Germany</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Outbound%20tourism" title=" Outbound tourism"> Outbound tourism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=panel%20data" title=" panel data"> panel data</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77266/the-german-air-passenger-tax-an-empirical-analysis-of-tourism-outflows" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77266.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">298</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1119</span> Inspection of Railway Track Fastening Elements Using Artificial Vision</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20Belhaoua">Abdelkrim Belhaoua</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean-Pierre%20Radoux"> Jean-Pierre Radoux</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In France, the railway network is one of the main transport infrastructures and is the second largest European network. Passenger counting is an essential tool for organizing and managing transportation services. Many studies have shown, that environmental noise particularly transportation noise has negative effects on people which resulting in annoyance and specific health problems such as cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment and sleep disturbance. Therefore, various attempts are made to reduce the noise. One method of reducing such noise to acceptable noise levels is to build acoustically barrier walls. The objective of this study was to review the method of reducing railway noise and obtain the preliminary design of the acoustics barrier on the edge of railway tracks close to the residential area. The design of this barrier is using the Maekawa's method. Measurements have been performed in residential areas around the railroads in the Karawang - Indonesia with the absence of an acoustical barrier. From the observation, it was found that the railway was passed by five trains within thirty minutes. With the limited distance between the railway tracks and the location of the residential area as well as the street of residents, then it was obtained that a reduction in sound pressure level is 25 dBA. Maximum sound pressure level obtained is 86.9 dBA then by setting the barrier as high as 4 m at a distance, 2.5 m from the railway, the noise level received by residents in the settlement around the railway line becomes 61.9 dBA. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acoustics%20barrier" title="acoustics barrier">acoustics
