communities, as well as the main indicators for 2023. The chain invested a total of 3,918,084 euros, representing an increase of 39.4% compared to the previous year, which was allocated to 99 projects developed with the collaboration of 82 strategic allies.</p><p>Childhood continues to be the main line of action for RIU (83% of social investment) with health, social development and education projects. The direct beneficiaries have been 39,226 girls, boys and adolescents; while indirectly the actions have had a positive impact on 98,321 people.</p><p>On the other hand, it is worth highlighting the progress made in terms of Environmental Responsibility, as currently, 70% of the hotel facilities operate with electricity from renewable sources and 20% produce photovoltaic energy for self-consumption, thus managing to reduce the carbon footprint per stay by 56% in the last two years. Likewise, the ratio of single-use plastic per stay has been reduced by 10%. As for ecosystem and species protection projects, it is worth highlighting that the chain has increased investment by almost 30% in the last year.</p><p>With a workforce of over 35,000 employees, of which 66% are permanent, another important area in which RIU is investing a lot of effort is Training. During 2023, 189,000 hours of training have been provided, which represents an increase of 49% compared to the previous year and an average rate of 5.4 hours per employee.</p><p>RIU also maintains its commitment to compliance and transparency through sustainability certification, with 89 certified hotels in 2023, one of the highest figures in the Spanish industry.</p><p>2023 has been a year of reflection to translate its ambitious commitment to sustainability into a four-year strategy. The result of this intense work was the presentation to all employees, in November, of the new Proudly Committed strategy. This strategy marks a before and after for RIU, placing sustainability at the centre of all the organisation's decisions and with the aim of ensuring that the impact of its activity is always as
