Physikalische Institut widmet sich der modernen Festkörperphysik und der Raumfahrtphysik. Die Professuren (Chatterjee, Klar, Thoma) tragen Lehre und Forschung in diesen Bereichen zusammen mit einer DLR-Professur (Hannemann), einer Honorarprofessur (Leiter) und den Nachwuchsgruppen (Elm, Mitic). Sie sind aktiv an den Studiengängen Physik BSc/MSc, Materialwissenschaften (MaWi) BSc/MSc, Physik und Technologie für Raumfahrtanwendungen (PTRA), der Nebenfachausbildung (Biologie) engagiert und zeichnen für die fachliche Lehrerausbildung (L2, L3, L5) in Physik verantwortlich (neben der grundständigen Ausbildung auch in der Lehrerweiterbildung). Die Forschung am Institut ist eingebunden in das Zentrum für Materialwissenschaften und den Forschungscampus Mittelhessen.">I.
