Seg\u00fan un texto de Plutarco, los cretenses sol\u00edan dejar a un lado sus diferencias en periodos de guerra para luchar juntos y fue precisamente esta tendencia a unirse lo que toma la palabra sincretismo. Se trata de un suceso cultural por el cual dos sociedades distintas acaban por compartir o unir dos o m\u00e1s rasgos de origen diferente. Si nos centramos en el sincretismo religioso, es un proceso normalmente espont\u00e1neo provocado por el intercambio cultural de los distintos pueblos, aunque tambi\u00e9n puede ser ordenado como en el caso del dios greco-egipcio Serapis. Ptolomeo I declar\u00f3 patr\u00f3n oficial de Alejandr\u00eda y dios de Egipto y Grecia a esta deidad en ambas culturas con el fin de que la convivencia fuese m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil y quedasen vinculadas culturalmente a trav\u00e9s de un elemento com\u00fan.. Este fen\u00f3meno suele producirse en situaciones de conflicto en los que la uni\u00f3n de ambos cultos, contradictoria en muchos sentidos pero aceptada por sus seguidores y siendo el producto resultante respetuoso para ambos credos, surge como un intento de crear un \u00e1mbito de armon\u00eda en el que las dos culturas puedan convivir. Este proceso no suele ser fruto de un di\u00e1logo ni de una negociaci\u00f3n, sino que se produce a fuerza de que dos culturas distintas se encuentren frente a frente y, en lugar de intentar imponerse, acaben por asimilar la existencia de ambas religiones en un solo espacio com\u00fan. Los primeros cambios que se producen no est\u00e1n en las creencias de los individuos en s\u00ed, sino en las fachadas de las propias religiones, que empiezan a crear semejanzas con el objetivo de que la transici\u00f3n sea m\u00e1s sencilla y asimilable para los fieles.. En Am\u00e9rica y \u00c1frica, donde han sido muy comunes los procesos de dominaci\u00f3n occidental sobre las religiones locales y las culturas, existen numerosos ejemplos de sincretismo religioso como el vud\u00fa haitiano, la macumba, el candombl\u00e9 brasile\u00f1o o el kimbang\u00fcismo africano. En Guatemala, la Iglesia de Santo Tom\u00e1s de Chichicastenango es uno de los pocos templos cat\u00f3licos del mundo en cuyo interior y exterior se permiten los ritos de otra religi\u00f3n: la antigua religi\u00f3n maya. La creencia popular dice que, a mediados de 1800, el padre Xim\u00e9nez encontr\u00f3 en el interior del templo el manuscrito del Popol Vuh, la biblia maya, y lo ley\u00f3 dentro de la iglesia. Desde ese momento, los ind\u00edgenas pueden practicar el sincretismo entre el culto cat\u00f3lico y el culto maya, realizado por varios oficiantes que emplean velas de colores, incienso, humo, aguardiente y p\u00e9talos de flores durante las celebraciones religiosas.\u00a0 Si nos centramos en el sincretismo religioso, es un proceso normalmente espontáneo provocado por el intercambio cultural de los distintos pueblos, aunque también puede ser ordenado <b>como en el caso del dios greco-egipcio Serapis</b>. Ptolomeo I declaró patrón oficial de Alejandría y dios de <a title="¿Crees que las pirámides de Egipto son las construcciones antiguas que más misterios encierran?" href="/web/20230405155703/https://www.muyinteresante.es/actualidad/29505.html">Egipto</a> y Grecia a esta deidad en ambas culturas con el fin de que la convivencia fuese más fácil y quedasen <b>vinculadas culturalmente a través de un elemento común</b>.</p><p class="paragraph">Este fenómeno <b>suele producirse en situaciones de conflicto</b> en los que la unión de ambos cultos, contradictoria en muchos sentidos pero aceptada por sus seguidores y siendo el producto resultante respetuoso para ambos credos, surge como un intento de <b>crear un ámbito de armonía en el que las dos culturas puedan convivir</b>. Este proceso no suele ser fruto de un diálogo ni de una negociación, sino que se produce a fuerza de que dos culturas distintas se encuentren frente a frente y, en lugar de intentar imponerse, acaben por <b>asimilar la existencia de ambas religiones en un solo espacio común</b>. Los primeros cambios que se producen no están en las creencias de los individuos en sí, sino en las fachadas de las propias religiones, que <b>empiezan a crear semejanzas con el objetivo de que la transición sea más sencilla y asimilable para los fieles</b>.</p><p class="paragraph"><b>En América y África</b>, donde han sido muy comunes los procesos de dominación occidental sobre las <a title="¿La religión ha causado las guerras más crueles de la Historia?" href="/web/20230405155703/https://www.muyinteresante.es/actualidad/28901.html">religiones</a> locales y las culturas, existen numerosos ejemplos de sincretismo religioso como el vudú haitiano, la macumba, el candomblé brasileño o el kimbangüismo africano. En Guatemala, la <b>Iglesia de Santo Tomás de Chichicastenango</b> es uno de los pocos templos católicos del mundo en cuyo interior y exterior se permiten los ritos de otra religión: la antigua religión <a title="Vestigios de ritos sangrientos entre los mayas" href="/web/20230405155703/https://www.muyinteresante.es/actualidad/11536.html">maya</a>. La creencia popular dice que, a mediados de 1800, el padre Ximénez encontró en el interior del templo el manuscrito del <i>Popol Vuh</i>, la biblia maya, y lo leyó dentro de la iglesia. Desde ese momento, <b>los indígenas pueden practicar el sincretismo entre el culto católico y el culto maya</b>, realizado por varios oficiantes que emplean velas de colores, incienso, humo,
