He was one of the twelve spies sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan and, along with Joshua, was one of the two who brought back a positive report, trusting in God's promise. Caleb's lineage is important as it connects to the tribe of Judah, from which King David and ultimately Jesus Christ descended. His descendants are noted for their leadership and influence in Israel.
The sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephrathah:
Hur is a notable figure, often associated with the tribe of Judah. He is mentioned in Exodus as a companion of Moses and Aaron, helping to hold up Moses' hands during the battle against the Amalekites. Ephrathah is another name for Bethlehem, indicating the geographical and familial significance of this lineage. This connection to Bethlehem is prophetically significant, as it is the birthplace of King David and Jesus Christ, fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah's origin.
Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim,
Shobal is identified as a leader or founder of Kiriath-jearim, a city with historical and religious significance. Kiriath-jearim is mentioned in the context of the Ark of the Covenant, which was kept there for a time before being moved to Jerusalem by King David. This city is located in the territory of Judah, further emphasizing the importance of this tribe in Israel's history. The mention of Shobal as the "father" of Kiriath-jearim suggests a role of leadership or establishment, highlighting the influence of Caleb's descendants in the region.
Persons / Places / Events
1. Caleb
A prominent figure in the tribe of Judah, known for his faithfulness and courage.
