With ColorOfChange’s phenomenal track record in creating real-world change, this position is a unique opportunity to innovate our organizing model and drive our next phase of growth and impact.

About Us
ColorOfChange is the nation’s largest online Black political organization with over 900,000 members nationally. We get results – we’ve weakened right-wing legislative efforts by convincing dozens of corporations to pull their support from the American Legislative Exchange Council, improved the portrayal of Black folks on TV by winning the cancellation of COPS and Oxygen Network’s “All My Babies’ Mamas”, and are currently working to invest millions of dollars for the private prison industry. And that’s just a small sampling of the more victories we’ve lead or supported in our nine-year history.

Core responsibilities

The Innovation Director reports to the Managing Director of Campaigns and is responsible for the following:

Growing our membership and grassroots fundraising. The Internet is changing and you’ll need the vision to combine strong writing, past best practices (demonstrated by ColorOfChange and our peer organizing groups) with metrics-driven innovation.

Leading ColorOfChange’s Technology Strategy. We get lots of support from partners on technology implementation, but you’ll need to be both our tech liaison and also a tech strategist that sees over the horizon.

Leading a team, but with the desire to lead from the front. Our teams are small and agile, so you’ll need the skills to both manage others and do a lot of execution yourself. Successful results will lead to a bigger team.

Qualifications
We’re seeking candidates who excel in online organizing, are results oriented, and have strong project and people-management skills. You should have:

Demonstrated leadership in the world of online organizing with a keen eye for opportunities presented by the 24/7 new cycle

Fundraising chops: you know how to create compelling fundraising asks that draw clear connections between giving money and change in the world

A data-driven philosophy: testing, evaluating, and iterating are key parts of your modus operandi.

Deep understanding of the technologies that power online organizing.

A track record of managing complex projects and the ability to oversee staff and consultants.

You are also conscious, not colorblind. Despite the trendiness of terms like “colorblind,” “personal responsibility” and “post-racial,” you understand that Black people face systemic barriers to opportunity and you’re up for the challenge of changing that.
Experience with statistical packages, SQL, MVP campaigning, and scoping tech projects are bonus skills but not requirements. Be sure to let us know if you have any of these skills!

How to Apply
Interested applicants should email jobs@colorofchange.org using the subject line “Innovation Director” with 1) a resume; and 2) a cover letter detailing your interest in the position.

Salary is commensurate with experience and highly competitive.
