class="faq"> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">Who should attend emergency management training courses?<div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3><p>Emergency Management Coordinators and other officials who have responsibilities in some aspect of emergency management should attend training. Personnel from police, fire, EMS, health, environmental protection, public works and educational agencies are encouraged to participate in the appropriate courses. The courses will increase management skills during the performance of day to day responsibilities, as well as in emergency response. Members of volunteer organizations, private non-profit agencies, and business and industry personnel who have emergency planning or response functions are also eligible for enrollment.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">How much does it cost to take a course? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>All NJOEM training courses all delivered free of charge.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">What days and times are courses held? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>Most courses are held on weekdays, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. At times, alternate scheduling of courses is arranged, including nights and weekends.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">Can I get a copy of the current schedule? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>The schedule is posted on the <a href="schedule.shtml">NJOEM Calendar</a> and is updated as needed.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">How can I apply to attend a course? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>Use the <a href="pdf/NJOEM_Training_Application_20190802.pdf" target="_blank">NJOEM Application <small>[pdf]</small></a> to apply for courses. Applicants selected for training will be notified of their acceptance approximately three to four weeks prior to the commencement of the course.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">Do classes have waiting lists? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>YES. Class size is limited so there is usually a waiting list for all courses, early application is recommended. Students are accommodated as spaces become available. Be sure to provide emergency contact information on your application (mobile phone) so you can be confirmed if space becomes available.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">Where are training courses held? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>Courses are held at the ROIC at NJSP Division Headquarters in West Trenton, NJ, or at county facilities throughout the state. Students will be provided directions to the training site with their acceptance letter. Field courses are open to participants from all twenty-one counties. Rules of the host county regarding parking, smoking, food in classrooms, etc. should be respected. Lunch is "on your own" and overnight accommodations are not provided.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">Will I get a certificate for the course? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>Every student who completes a course will receive a certificate of completion from the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. Each student will need to maintain their own training records as NJOEM does not provide transcripts of past training.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">How can I request a particular FEMA course be delivered in my town, county or for my agency? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p><strong>YES.</strong> It is understood that personal and professional commitments often prohibit attendance at a training site that necessitates long commutes and consecutive full days of instruction. Alternative field offerings permit those members of the emergency management community to receive the training they believe to be beneficial to themselves and their programs. Any course delivered by the NJOEM Field Training Unit at any location must be open to emergency response, management personnel and allied agencies statewide.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">What do I do if I cannot attend a course? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>If you have applied but have not received confirmation, please contact the <a href="contact.shtml">Training & Exercise Staff</a> so your application can be removed to make space for additional training applicants<em>. If you have been confirmed to attend a course,</em> please contact Ted Cashel at 609-882-2000 extension 6214 as promptly as possible so that your seat may be offered to someone on the waiting list. Failure to make timely notification for course withdrawals/absences may jeopardize your enrollment in future courses.</p> </div></li> <li style="margin-bottom: 20px;">Are continuing education credits/units (CECs/CEUs) offered for training courses? <div class='answer'><h3>Answer:</h3> <p>Participants who successfully complete a course will receive a certificate. Each student should retain their certificate and relevant course materials to make their own applications for credits from accrediting agencies. Most accrediting bodies will require proof of attendance and course content.
