The term itself is not explicitly used in most English translations of the Bible, but the idea is present throughout Scripture in different forms.

1. Physical Locations:

In the Old Testament, the Israelites' journey through the wilderness involved various "stations" or encampments. These were specific places where the Israelites stopped and set up camp during their 40-year journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. Numbers 33 provides a detailed account of these stages, listing each location where the Israelites camped. For example, Numbers 33:1-2 states, "These are the stages of the Israelites when they came out of the land of Egypt by their divisions under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. At the LORD’s command, Moses recorded the stages of their journey. These are the stages listed by their starting points."

2. Positions of Duty:

The concept of station can also refer to roles or duties assigned by God. In the Levitical priesthood, specific duties were assigned to different families and individuals. Each had a "station" or position of service in the tabernacle or temple. For instance, the sons of Kohath were responsible for carrying the most holy things (Numbers 4:4-15). This division of labor ensured that the worship and sacrifices were conducted according to God's commands.

In the New Testament, the idea of station can be seen in the various roles within the early church. Ephesians 4:11-12 describes different roles: "And it was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for works of ministry and to build up the body of Christ." Each role represents a station within the body of Christ, contributing to the church's mission and growth.

3. Spiritual Standings:

Spiritually, one's station can refer to their standing before God. Believers are called to stand firm in their faith and maintain their spiritual station. Ephesians 6:13-14 exhorts believers, "Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed."

The concept of station also encompasses the idea of being steadfast in one's calling and faith. Paul encourages believers to remain in the station or condition in which they were called, as seen in 1 Corinthians 7:20 : "Each one should remain in the situation he was in when he was called."

4. Eschatological Implications:

In eschatological terms, the station of believers is ultimately fulfilled in their eternal standing with Christ. Revelation 3:21 promises, "To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne." This future station reflects the believer's ultimate position of honor and authority in the kingdom of God.

Throughout Scripture, the concept of station encompasses physical locations, roles of service, spiritual standings, and future promises. Each aspect highlights the importance of understanding one's place and purpose within God's divine plan.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
1.
