This study investigated English-speaking difficulties encountered by non-English secondary school students in a private school in Casablanca, Morocco. The subjects were students of 63 (male and female) from 2ed year classes level. It also aims to investigate the degree of main speaking difficulties and the factors effecting non-English students to speak English. This research used a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach with a questionnaire and an interview to collect the data. In linguistically related difficulties, there were four difficulties, namely vocabulary, grammar, conversation and pronunciation. The results revealed that there were 40.32% of students agreed that they do not have sufficient grammar knowledge, 45.16% of students agreed that they do not have enough vocabulary, 45.90% of students agreed that they have difficulty in conversation, and 39.34% of students agreed that they have poor pronunciation. Also, the results indicated that 63.33 % of students agreed that they have problems with self-confidence. The factors causing the problem of speaking English in this study were lack of general knowledge, lack of speaking practice, fear of mistakes and grammar practice, low participation, shyness, nervousness, fear of criticism, and unfamiliar word pronunciation. Furthermore, recommendations and suggestions were presented to solve the problem and eliminate difficulties for teachers and students. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=English%20speaking" title="English speaking">English speaking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=difficulties" title=" difficulties"> difficulties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=factors" title=" factors"> factors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-English%20students" title=" non-English students"> non-English students</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190038/speaking-difficulties-encountered-by-efl-learners-in-secondary-school-in-morocco" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190038.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">23</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> Role of IT Systems in Corporate Recruitment: Challenges and Constraints</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brahim%20Bellali">Brahim Bellali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatima%20Bellali"> Fatima Bellali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The integration of information technology systems (ITS) into a company's human resources processes seems to be the appropriate solution to the problem of evolving and adapting its human resources management practices in order to be both more strategic and more efficient in terms of costs and service quality. In this context, the aim of this work is to study the impact of information technology systems (ITS) on the recruitment process. In this study, we targeted candidates who had recruited using IT tools. The target population consists of 34 candidates based in Casablanca, Morocco. In order to collect the data, a questionnaire had to be drawn up. The survey is based on a data sheet and a questionnaire that is divided into several sections to make it more structured and comprehensible. The results show that the majority of respondents say that companies are making greater use of online CV libraries and social networks as digital solutions during the recruitment process. The results also show that 50% of candidates say that the use of digital tools by companies would not slow them down when applying for a job and that these IT tools improve manual recruitment processes, while 44.1% think that they facilitate recruitment without any human intervention. The majority of respondents (52.9%) think that social networks are the digital solutions most often used by recruiters in the sourcing phase. The constraints of digital recruitment encountered are the dehumanization of human resources (44.1%) and the limited interaction during remote interviews (44.1%), which leaves no room for informal exchanges. Digital recruitment can be a highly effective strategy for finding qualified candidates in a variety of fields. Here are a few recommendations for optimizing your digital recruitment process: (1) Use online recruitment platforms: LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook ; (2) Use applicant tracking systems (ATS) ; (3) Develop a content marketing strategy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IT%20systems" title="IT systems">IT systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recruitment" title=" recruitment"> recruitment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=challenges" title=" challenges"> challenges</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constraints" title=" constraints"> constraints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190058/role-of-it-systems-in-corporate-recruitment-challenges-and-constraints" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/190058.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">33</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> Impact of Information Technology Systems on the Recruitment Process in Morocco</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brahim%20Bellali">Brahim Bellali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatima%20Bellali"> Fatima Bellali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The integration of information technology systems (ITS) into a company's ‘human resources processes seems to be the appropriate solution to the problem of evolving and adapting its human resources management practices in order to be both more strategic and more efficient in terms of costs and service quality. The specific objective of this part of study is to optimize the various parameters involved in enzymatic deacidification of fish oil processed in Morocco: pressure, ratio of oil/novozymes 435, ratio of oil/glycerol, temperature. The best deacidification yields were obtained with: -A temperature of 70 °C; -A ratio -Oil/Glycerol: 2% (% P); -A ratio -Oil/Novozyme 435: 1% (% P); -A pressure: 15 to 25 mbar. On the other hand, the study of the effect of initial oil acidity showed that whatever the acidity of the oil studied (very acidic, or low acidic), the final yields are high. Acidity does not reduce the reaction efficiency. From an industrial point of view, this represents a competitive advantage to consider. This eco-friend enzymatic solution may allows Moroccan fish oil producers to achieve acid number values that meet the standard. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sardine%20oil" title="sardine oil">sardine oil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=enzymatic%20esterfication" title=" enzymatic esterfication"> enzymatic esterfication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=desacidification" title=" desacidification"> desacidification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acid%20number" title=" acid number"> acid number</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17956/enzymatic-esterification-of-sardine-oil-processed-in-morocco" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17956.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">385</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Terroir Products at the Service Territorial Marketing: Case of the Promotion of Souss Massa Region Using Argan Oil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Sadki">Assia Sadki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soumiya%20Mekkaoui"> Soumiya Mekkaoui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdellatif%20Ait%20Heda"> Abdellatif Ait Heda</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Territorial marketing is a crucial element in the improvement of the attractiveness and competitiveness of a region, city or country. In order to optimize this process, our solution aims to detect and reduce the pollution level of the ocean zones while taking into account the problem of fault tolerance related to these vehicles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=centralized%20architecture" title="centralized architecture">centralized architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fault%20tolerance" title=" fault tolerance"> fault tolerance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=UAV" title=" UAV"> UAV</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=USV" title=" USV"> USV</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84414/a-centralized-architecture-for-cooperative-air-sea-vehicles-using-uav-usv" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84414.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">329</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">21</span> Evaluation of Total Antioxidant Activity (TAC) of Copper Oxide Decorated Reduced Graphene Oxide (CuO-rGO) at Different Stirring time</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aicha%20Bensouici">Aicha Bensouici</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Mili"> Assia Mili</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naouel%20Rdjem"> Naouel Rdjem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nacera%20Baali"> Nacera Baali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Copper oxide decorated reduced graphene oxide (GO) was obtained successfully using two steps route synthesis was used. It's one of the top 10 most common items found there. This happens because it's light and easily carried away from its original source, like packaging or transport, into the environment. Unfortunately, it's not recycled much because it's not very profitable to do so. Hence, turning this waste into a resource can turn challenges into opportunities for a territory's economic and environmental development, which is the focus of this study. the goal is to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of a new type of mortar made from dune sand mixed with recycled polystyrene. it also aim to assess its potential for use in various construction applications. The mixtures were prepared by replacing portions of dune sand with polystyrene waste at varying volumes (10%, 20%, and 30%), while keeping the amount of cement constant. The results indicate a noticeable impact on both the physical and mechanical properties because of incorporating polystyrene waste. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polystyr%C3%A8ne" title="polystyrène">polystyrène</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eco-mortier" title=" eco-mortier"> eco-mortier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sable%20de%20dune" title=" sable de dune"> sable de dune</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=r%C3%A9sistance" title=" résistance"> résistance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185871/characterization-of-an-ecological-mortar-lightweight-with-polystyrene" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185871.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">53</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19</span> Cognition of Driving Context for Driving Assistance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manolo%20Dulva%20Hina">Manolo Dulva Hina</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Clement%20Thierry"> Clement Thierry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Soukane"> Assia Soukane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amar%20Ramdane-Cherif"> Amar Ramdane-Cherif</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we presented our innovative way of determining the driving context for a driving assistance system. We invoke the fusion of all parameters that describe the context of the environment, the vehicle and the driver to obtain the driving context. We created a training set that stores driving situation patterns and from which the system consults to determine the driving situation. A machine-learning algorithm predicts the driving situation. The driving situation is an input to the fission process that yields the action that must be implemented when the driver needs to be informed or assisted from the given the driving situation. The action may be directed towards the driver, the vehicle or both. It allows providing users with context aware information and services in a heterogeneous environment, anywhere and anytime. Selection of the best context-aware service, between many available services and providers, is a tedious problem. In this paper, a service selection method based on Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) formalism is proposed. The services are considered as variables and domains; and the user context, preferences and providers characteristics are considered as constraints. The Backtrack algorithm is used to solve the problem to find the best service and provider which matches the user requirements. Even though this algorithm has an exponential complexity, but its use guarantees that the service, that best matches the user requirements, will be found. A comparison of the proposed method with the existing solutions finishes the paper. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ubiquitous%20computing" title="ubiquitous computing">ubiquitous computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=services%20selection" title=" services selection"> services selection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constraint%20satisfaction%20problem" title=" constraint satisfaction problem"> constraint satisfaction problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=backtrack%20algorithm" title=" backtrack algorithm"> backtrack algorithm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68523/problem-of-services-selection-in-ubiquitous-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68523.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">244</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">17</span> Encounters with the Other Sisters of the Past: the Role of Colonial History and Memory in the Adjustment of the Postcolonial Female Identity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatiha%20Ka%C3%AFd%20Berrahal">Fatiha Kaïd Berrahal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nassima%20Ka%C3%AFd"> Nassima Kaïd</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Djihad%20Affaf%20Selt"> Djihad Affaf Selt</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present paper is a comparative analysis of the Algerian writer Assia Djebar’s women of Algiers in Their Apartment (1982) and the Anglo-Egyptian Ahdaf Soueif’s The Map of Love (1999) foregrounded on the female protagonists’ painfully common colonial and patriarchal experiences, though in different geographical regions of North Africa. This study raises questions pertaining, first, to the emerging contemporary genre “Historiographic meta-fiction” in which the novels examined could be inscribed, then, the interplay of colonial history and personal memory that impinges on the development of the identity of the post-colonial female subject. As the novels alternate between the historical and the autobiographical, we currently seek to understand how it is pertinent and pressing for women to excavate the lost and occluded stories of the past for the adjustment of their present personal identities, which are undoubtedly an important part of the identity of a nation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=postcolonial%20feminism" title="postcolonial feminism">postcolonial feminism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=islamic%20feminism" title=" islamic feminism"> islamic feminism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=memory" title=" memory"> memory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=histoirographic%20metafiction" title=" histoirographic metafiction"> histoirographic metafiction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19905/encounters-with-the-other-sisters-of-the-past-the-role-of-colonial-history-and-memory-in-the-adjustment-of-the-postcolonial-female-identity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19905.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">643</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16</span> Optimization of Extraction Conditions and Characteristics of Scale collagen From Sardine: Sardina pilchardus</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=F.%20Bellali">F. In this study, the optimal condition for the deproteinization which was validated at laboratory scale was employed in the pilot scale procedure. The deproteinization of fish scale was then demonstrated on a pilot scale (2Kg scales, 20l NaOH), resulting in protein content (0,2mg/ml) and hydroxyproline content (2,11mg/l). These results indicated that the pilot-scale showed similar performances to those of lab-scale one. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deproteinization" title="deproteinization">deproteinization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pilot%20scale" title=" pilot scale"> pilot scale</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scale" title=" scale"> scale</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sardine%20pilchardus" title=" sardine pilchardus"> sardine pilchardus</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17961/deproteinization-of-moroccan-sardine-sardina-pilchardus-scales-a-pilot-scale-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17961.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">446</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> Physicochemical, Heavy Metals Analysis of Some Multi-Floral Algerian Honeys</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Amri">Assia Amri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naima%20Layachi"> Naima Layachi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Ladjama"> Ali Ladjama</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The characterization of some Algerian honey was carried out on the basis of their physico-chemical properties: moisture, hydroxy methyl furfural, diastase activity, pH,free, total and lactonic acidity, electrical conductivity, minerals and proline content. Studied samples are found to be low in moisture and therefore safe from fermentation, low in HMF level and high in diastase activity. Additionally the diastase activity and the HMF content are widely recognized parameters indicating the freshness of honey. Phenolic compounds present in honey are classified into two groups - simple phenols and polyphenols. The simple phenols in honey are various phenol acids, but polyphenols are various flavonoids and flavonides. The aim of our work was to determine antioxidant properties of various Algerian honey samples–the total phenol content, total flavonoids content, as well as honey anti radical activity. The quality of honey samples differs on account of various factors such as season, packaging and processing conditions, floral source, geographical origin and storage period. Iodine deficiency is the cause of several disorders in foetal development, and thyroid disorders during pregnancy are associated with an increased risk of miscarriage or premature birth. The aim of this study was to assess the iodine status and thyroid function of pregnant women (PW) in northern Algeria. Methods: Healthy PW were recruited from an urban area (Algiers). Spot urine and venous blood samples were collected to assess iodine status (urinary iodine concentration, UIC) and serum thyroid hormones (TSH, FT4), and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO-Ab) concentrations. Results: The median UIC for the PW (n=172) in Algiers was 246,74µg/L, 244,68 µg/L, and 220,63µg/L, respectively, during the first, second, and third trimesters of pregnancy. Mean TSH and FT4 concentrations were within reference ranges in all groups of women. Among PW, 72.7%, 75.4%, and 75.5% in the first, second and third trimester were TPO-Ab+. Among PW, 14%, 10%, and 10% in the first, second and third trimester, respectively, with TPO -Ab+ had subclinical hypothyroidism. An analysis of the variations in the levels of the serum parameters (FT4, TSH and anti-TPO antibodies) was analyzed according to the UIC intervals admitted and show that these marker are predictive of thyroid function. Conclusion: In northern Algeria, median UICs indicate iodine sufficiency in PW. About 75% of PW are TPO-Ab+ and the prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism is high. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thyroid" title="thyroid">thyroid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pregnant%20woman" title=" pregnant woman"> pregnant woman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urinary%20iodine" title=" urinary iodine"> urinary iodine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subclinical%20hypothyroidism" title=" subclinical hypothyroidism"> subclinical hypothyroidism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166232/prevalence-of-thyroid-disorders-in-pregnancy-in-northern-algeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166232.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">78</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> The Influence of Incorporating Coffee Grounds on Enhancing the Engineering Properties of Expansive Soils: Experimental Approach and Optimization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bencheikh%20Messaouda">Bencheikh Messaouda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aidoud%20Assia"> Aidoud Assia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salima%20Boukour"> Salima Boukour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benamara%20Fatima%20Zohra"> Benamara Fatima Zohra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Boukhatem%20Ghania"> Boukhatem Ghania</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zegueur%20Chaouki%20Salah%20Eddine"> Zegueur Chaouki Salah Eddine</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The utilization of waste materials in civil engineering has gained widespread attention in recent years due to their adverse effects on the environment. One such waste material is coffee grounds, a black residue generated daily across the country after coffee brewing. Instead of disposing of it, there is a growing interest in repurposing it for various agricultural and industrial applications. Utilizing coffee grounds in geotechnical engineering, such as in road embankments, presents an opportunity for its valorization. The study aims to contribute to the valorization of coffee grounds by enhancing the physical and mechanical properties of clayey soils through their incorporation at varying weight percentages (3%, 6%, 9%, 12%) as partial replacements in these soils. This not only addresses the issue of coffee ground waste but also makes a tangible contribution to sustainable development. The findings demonstrate that incorporating coffee grounds generally has positive effects on the physical and mechanical properties of clayey soil. However, the extent of these effects depends on factors such as the quantity of coffee grounds added, the particle size of the grounds, and the characteristics of the soil. Additionally, coffee grounds can improve the compression and tensile strength of clayey soil, resulting in increased stability and reduced susceptibility to deformation under external forces. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clay%20soil" title="clay soil">clay soil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coffee%20grounds" title=" coffee grounds"> coffee grounds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimizing" title=" optimizing"> optimizing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=improvement" title=" improvement"> improvement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=valorization" title=" valorization"> valorization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waste" title=" waste"> waste</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185913/the-influence-of-incorporating-coffee-grounds-on-enhancing-the-engineering-properties-of-expansive-soils-experimental-approach-and-optimization" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185913.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">45</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11</span> Refined Edge Detection Network</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omar%20Elharrouss">Omar Elharrouss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Youssef%20Hmamouche"> Youssef Hmamouche</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Kamal%20Idrissi"> Assia Kamal Idrissi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Btissam%20El%20Khamlichi"> Btissam El Khamlichi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20El%20Fallah-Seghrouchni"> Amal El Fallah-Seghrouchni</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Edge detection is represented as one of the most challenging tasks in computer vision, due to the complexity of detecting the edges or boundaries in real-world images that contains objects of different types and scales like trees, building as well as various backgrounds. Edge detection is represented also as a key task for many computer vision applications. Using a set of backbones as well as attention modules, deep-learning-based methods improved the detection of edges compared with the traditional methods like Sobel and Canny. However, images of complex scenes still represent a challenge for these methods. Also, the detected edges using the existing approaches suffer from non-refined results while the image output contains many erroneous edges. To overcome this, n this paper, by using the mechanism of residual learning, a refined edge detection network is proposed (RED-Net). By maintaining the high resolution of edges during the training process, and conserving the resolution of the edge image during the network stage, we make the pooling outputs at each stage connected with the output of the previous layer. Also, after each layer, we use an affined batch normalization layer as an erosion operation for the homogeneous region in the image. The proposed methods are evaluated using the most challenging datasets including BSDS500, NYUD, and Multicue. The obtained results outperform the designed edge detection networks in terms of performance metrics and quality of output images. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=edge%20detection" title="edge detection">edge detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convolutional%20neural%20networks" title=" convolutional neural networks"> convolutional neural networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title=" deep learning"> deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scale-representation" title=" scale-representation"> scale-representation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=backbone" title=" backbone"> backbone</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150865/refined-edge-detection-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150865.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">102</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">10</span> Evaluation of Antioxidants in Medicinal plant Limoniastrum guyonianum</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Belfar">Assia Belfar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Hadjadj"> Mohamed Hadjadj</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Messaouda%20Dakmouche"> Messaouda Dakmouche</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zineb%20Ghiaba"> Zineb Ghiaba</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: This study aims to phytochemical screening; Extracting the active compounds and estimate the effectiveness of antioxidant in Medicinal plants desert Limoniastrum guyonianum (Zeïta) from South Algeria. In parallel, the diagnostic approach of cystic liver lesions is based on the number of lesions and their distribution. The etiologies of cystic masses in children are different, and the role of imaging in their characterization and pre-therapeutic evaluation is essential. The main differential diagnoses of hepatic hydatid cysts can be discovered intraoperatively by minimally invasive surgery. Methods: The clinical data contained seven patients with hepatic cystic who underwent laparoscopic surgery in the Department of Pediatric Surgery, SETIF, Algeria, from 2015 to 2022. Results: Of reported seven patients, five are male, and the remaining two are female. Abdominal pain was the most frequent clinical signs. Biological parameters were within normal limits, Abdominal ultrasound, practiced in all cases, completed by abdominal computed tomography (CT), showed a hydatid cystic. For all patients, surgical procedures were performed under laparoscopy. Total cystectomy in four patients, fenestration or subtotal cystectomy in three patients, respectively. A histopathological feature confirmed the nature of the cysts. During the follow-up period, there was no recurrence. Conclusions: Laparoscopic liver surgery is a safe and effective approach, it is an alternative to conventional surgery and a reproducible method. Laparoscopic surgery approach should follow the same principals with those of open surgery. This surgical technique can rectify the diagnosis of hydatid cyst, the histopathological examination confirms the nature of the cystic lesion. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=children" title="children">children</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyst" title=" cyst"> cyst</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=echinococcosis" title=" echinococcosis"> echinococcosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=laparoscopic" title=" laparoscopic"> laparoscopic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liver" title=" liver"> liver</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147275/laparoscopic-management-of-cysts-mimicking-hepatic-cystic-echinococcosis-in-children-a-case-series" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147275.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">138</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8</span> Digital Interventions for Older People Experiencing Homelessness (OPEH): A Systematic Scoping Review</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emily%20Adams">Emily Adams</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eddie%20Donaghy"> Eddie Donaghy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Henderson"> David Henderson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lauren%20Ng"> Lauren Ng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caroline%20Sanders"> Caroline Sanders</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rowena%20Stewart"> Rowena Stewart</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Wolters"> Maria Wolters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stewart%20Mercer"> Stewart Mercer</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ongoing review abstract: Older People Experiencing Homelessness (OPEH) can have mental and physical indicators of aging 10–20 years earlier than the general population and experience premature mortality due to age-related chronic conditions. The present work on the contribution of remote sensing on the geological mapping of the Imiter buttonhole and application to the mineralized structures of the Principal Corps B3. Mapping on satellite images is a very important tool in mineral prospecting. It allows the localization of the zones of interest in order to orientate the field missions by helping the localization of the major structures which facilitates the interpretation, the programming and the orientation of the mining works. The predictive map also allows for the correction of field mapping work, especially the direction and dimensions of structures such as dykes, corridors or scrapings. The use of a series of processing such as SAM, PCA, MNF and unsupervised and supervised classification on a Landsat 8 satellite image of the study area allowed us to highlight the main facies of the Imite area. To improve the exploration research, we used another processing that allows to realize a spatial distribution of the alteration mineral indices, and the application of several filters on the different bands to have lineament maps. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=principal%20corps%20B3" title="principal corps B3">principal corps B3</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teledetection" title=" teledetection"> teledetection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Landsat%208" title=" Landsat 8"> Landsat 8</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Imiter%20II" title=" Imiter II"> Imiter II</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silver%20mineralization" title=" silver mineralization"> silver mineralization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lineaments" title=" lineaments"> lineaments</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150580/contribution-of-spatial-teledetection-to-the-geological-mapping-of-the-imiter-buttonhole-application-to-the-mineralized-structures-of-the-principal-corps-b3-cpb3-of-the-imiter-mine-anti-atlas-morocco" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150580.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">95</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Impact of Silicon Surface Modification on the Catalytic Performance Towards CO₂ Conversion of Cu₂S/Si-Based Photocathodes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karima%20Benfadel">Karima Benfadel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lamia%20Talbi"> Lamia Talbi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sabiha%20Anas%20Boussaa"> Sabiha Anas Boussaa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Afaf%20Brik"> Afaf Brik</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Boukezzata"> Assia Boukezzata</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yahia%20Ouadah"> Yahia Ouadah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Samira%20Kaci"> Samira Kaci</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to prevent global warming, which is mainly caused by the increase in carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, it is interesting to produce renewable energy in the form of chemical energy by converting carbon dioxide into alternative fuels and other energy-dense products. Photoelectrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide to value-added products and fuels is a promising and current method. The objective of our study is to develop Cu₂S-based photoélectrodes, in which Cu₂S is used as a CO₂ photoelectrocatalyst deposited on nanostructured silicon substrates. Cu₂S thin layers were deposited using the chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique. Silicon nanowires and nanopyramids were obtained by alkaline etching. SEM and UV-visible spectroscopy was used to analyse the morphology and optical characteristics. By using a potentiostat station, we characterized the photoelectrochemical properties. We performed cyclic voltammetry in the presence and without CO₂ purging as well as linear voltammetry (LSV) in the dark and under white light irradiation. We perform chronoamperometry to study the stability of our photocathodes. The quality of the nanowires and nanopyramids was visible in the SEM images, and after Cu₂S deposition, we could see how the deposition was distributed over the textured surfaces. The inclusion of the Cu₂S layer applied on textured substrates significantly reduces the reflectance (R%). The catalytic performance towards CO₂ conversion of Cu₂S/Si-based photocathodes revealed that the texturing of the silicon surface with nanowires and pyramids has a better photoelectrochemical behavior than those without surface modifications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CO%E2%82%82%20conversion" title="CO₂ conversion">CO₂ conversion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cu%E2%82%82S%20photocathode" title=" Cu₂S photocathode"> Cu₂S photocathode</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silicone%20nanostructured" title=" silicone nanostructured"> silicone nanostructured</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrochemistry" title=" electrochemistry"> electrochemistry</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170801/impact-of-silicon-surface-modification-on-the-catalytic-performance-towards-co2-conversion-of-cu2ssi-based-photocathodes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170801.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">78</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> Impact of Breed and Physiological Status on Blood Content of Goats in Arid Conditions of Algeria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lilia%20Belkacem">Lilia Belkacem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zahra%20Rouabah"> Zahra Rouabah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Allaoui"> Assia Allaoui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karina%20Bachtarzi"> Karina Bachtarzi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Souhila%20Belkadi"> Souhila Belkadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Boubakeur%20Safsaf"> Boubakeur Safsaf</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Madjid%20Tlidjane"> Madjid Tlidjane</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Damascus breed, known for its prolificacy and milking ability, is recently imported in Algeria. Farmers tend to improve the local native herds by crossbreeding with Damascus bucks. The aim of the current investigation was to study the effects of physiological status on blood progesterone and some biochemical parameters in Shami goats and their crosses with local breed in arid conditions of Algeria. Ten does with an age range of 1.5- 3 years and BSC between 2.5 and 3.5 were used. Female goats were divided into two groups of five animals each: Damascus, and crossbred (Damascus x Arbia). All females were estrus synchronized and naturally mated. Blood samples were collected before intravaginal sponge insertion (non- pregnant), in early (30 days after sponge removal), mid (90 days), late pregnancy (130 days) and after kidding (30 days post-partum). Results demonstrate a significant effect of the reproductive stage on progesterone (P4) levels in both groups, on glycemia and cholesterolemia in crossbred does (p<0.05) and on albuminemia and uremia in Damascus ones. Concentrations of triglycerides, total proteins, globulin and creatinine revealed no significant difference between physiological phases in both groups (p>0.05). Breed effect was detected in early and mid-pregnancy for P4, in early pregnancy and lactation for total proteins and in lactation for globulin with lower concentrations in Damascus compared to crossbred does. Changes in P4 and biochemical profiles of both groups reflect the female goat’s adaptation to increased requirement of gestation and lactation in arid conditions of Algeria. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damascus%20goat" title="damascus goat">damascus goat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crossbred" title=" crossbred"> crossbred</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reproductive%20status" title=" reproductive status"> reproductive status</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=progesterone" title=" progesterone"> progesterone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biochemical%20metabolites" title=" biochemical metabolites"> biochemical metabolites</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183990/impact-of-breed-and-physiological-status-on-blood-content-of-goats-in-arid-conditions-of-algeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183990.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">61</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Oxidative Antioxidative Status and DNA Damage Profile Induced by Chemotherapy in Algerian Children with Lymphoma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Galleze">Assia Galleze</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdurrahim%20Kocyigit"> Abdurrahim Kocyigit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nacira%20%20Cherif"> Nacira Cherif</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nidel%20Benhalilou"> Nidel Benhalilou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nabila%20Attal"> Nabila Attal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chafia%20Touil%20Boukkoffa"> Chafia Touil Boukkoffa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rachida%20Raache"> Rachida Raache</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction and aims: Chemotherapeutic agents used to inhibit cell division and reduce tumor growth, increase reactive oxygen species levels, which contributes to their genotoxicity [1]. The comet assay is an inexpensive and rapid method to detect the damage at cellular levels and has been used in various cancer populations undergoing chemotherapy [2,3]. The present study aim to assess the oxidative stress and the genotoxicity induced by chemotherapy by the determination of plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) level, protein carbonyl (PC) content, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and lymphocyte DNA damage in Algerian children with lymphoma. Materials and Methods: For our study, we selected thirty children with lymphoma treated in university hospital of Beni Messous, Algeria, and fifty unrelated subjects as controls, after obtaining the informed consent in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki (1964). Plasma levels of MDA, PC and SOD activity were spectrophotometrically measured, while DNA damage was assessed by alkaline comet assay in peripheral blood leukocytes. Results and Discussion: Plasma MDA, PC levels and lymphocyte DNA damage, were found to be significantly higher in lymphoma patients than in controls (p < 0.001). Whereas, SOD activity in lymphoma patients was significantly lower than in healthy controls (p < 0.001). There were significant positive correlations between DNA damage, MDA and PC in patients (r = 0.96, p < 0.001, r = 0.97, p < 0.001, respectively), and negative correlation with SOD (r = 0.87, p < 0.01). Conclusion and Perspective: Our results indicated that, leukocytes DNA damage and oxidative stress were significantly higher in lymphoma patients, suggesting that the direct effect of chemotherapy and the alteration of the redox balance may influence oxidative/antioxidative status. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemotherapy" title="chemotherapy">chemotherapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comet%20assay" title=" comet assay"> comet assay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20damage" title=" DNA damage"> DNA damage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lymphoma" title=" lymphoma"> lymphoma</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124329/oxidative-antioxidative-status-and-dna-damage-profile-induced-by-chemotherapy-in-algerian-children-with-lymphoma" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124329.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">137</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Extracting the Antioxidant Compounds of Medicinal Plant Limoniastrum guyonianum</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assia%20Belfar">Assia Belfar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Hadjadj"> Mohamed Hadjadj</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Messaouda%20Dakmouche"> Messaouda Dakmouche</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zineb%20Ghiaba"> Zineb Ghiaba</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahdi%20Belguidoum"> Mahdi Belguidoum</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: This study aims to phytochemical screening; Extracting the active compounds and estimate the effectiveness of antioxidant in Medicinal plants desert Limoniastrum guyonianum (Zeïta) from South Algeria. (Rosaceae), a plant widely used as natural remedy for hypertension in folk medicine. The antioxidant potential of methanolic extract (ME)and its three fractions of Chloroform (CHE), ethyl acetate (EAE)and water (AqE) have been investigated using several assays, including the DPPH scavenging, ABTS scavenging, hydroxyl radical scavenging. Inhibition of lipid peroxidation was performed by the β-carotene bleaching assay, ferric thiocyanate method and thiobarburic acid method. Total phenolic and total flavonoid contents of the extracts were estimated using Folin-Chiocalteu reagent and AlCl3, respectively. EAE extract showed the highest polyphenolic and flavonoids contents (396,04±1.20 mg GAE/g of dry extract and 32,73 ± 0.03mg QE/g of dry extract) respectively. Similarly, this extract possessed the highest scavenging activity for DPPH radical (IC 50 = 0,006±0,0001mg /ml), ABTS radical (IC50=0.0035±0,0007 mg/ml) and hydroxyl radical(IC 50=0,283± 0.01 mg/ml). In addition, the EAE exhibited the highest antioxidant activity in the inhibition of linoleic acid/ß-carotene coupled oxidation (89,21%), lipid peroxidation in the ferric thiocyanate(FTC) method (90.13%), and thio-barbituric acid (TBA) method (74.23%). Intravenous administration of Me and EAE decreased mean arterial blood pressure, systolic and diastolic blood pressure in anesthetized rats dose-dependently, at the dose range of 0.4 to 12 mg/kg. The mean arterial blood pressure dropped by 27.58 and 39.37% for ME and EAE, respectively. In conclusion, The present study supported the significant potential to use C. azarolus by-products as a source of natural antioxidants and provides scientific justification for its traditional uses as cardio-protective and anti-hypertensive remedy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Crataegus%20azarolus" title="Crataegus azarolus">Crataegus azarolus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyphenols" title=" polyphenols"> polyphenols</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flavonoids" title=" flavonoids"> flavonoids</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hypertension" title=" hypertension"> hypertension</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antioxidant%20activity" title=" antioxidant activity"> antioxidant activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=free%20radicals" title=" free radicals"> free radicals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peroxidation" title=" peroxidation"> peroxidation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10557/hypotensive-free-radical-scavenging-and-anti-lipid-peroxidation-activities-of-crataegus-azarolus-l-leaves-extracts-growing-in-algeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10557.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">347</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Development of an Asset Database to Enhance the Circular Business Models for the European Solar Industry: A Design Science Research Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C3%84ssia%20Boukhatmi">Ässia Boukhatmi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Roger%20Nyffenegger"> Roger Nyffenegger</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The expansion of solar energy as a means to address the climate crisis is undisputed, but the increasing number of new photovoltaic (PV) modules being put on the market is simultaneously leading to increased challenges in terms of managing the growing waste stream. Many of the discarded modules are still fully functional but are often damaged by improper handling after disassembly or not properly tested to be considered for a second life. In addition, the collection rate for dismantled PV modules in several European countries is only a fraction of previous projections, partly due to the increased number of illegal exports. The underlying problem for those market imperfections is an insufficient data exchange between the different actors along the PV value chain, as well as the limited traceability of PV panels during their lifetime. As part of the Horizon 2020 project CIRCUSOL, an asset database prototype was developed to tackle the described problems. In an iterative process applying the design science research methodology, different business models, as well as the technical implementation of the database, were established and evaluated. To explore the requirements of different stakeholders for the development of the database, surveys and in-depth interviews were conducted with various representatives of the solar industry. The proposed database prototype maps the entire value chain of PV modules, beginning with the digital product passport, which provides information about materials and components contained in every module. Product-related information can then be expanded with performance data of existing installations. This information forms the basis for the application of data analysis methods to forecast the appropriate end-of-life strategy, as well as the circular economy potential of PV modules, already before they arrive at the recycling facility. The database prototype could already be enriched with data from different data sources along the value chain. From a business model perspective, the database offers opportunities both in the area of reuse as well as with regard to the certification of sustainable modules. Here, participating actors have the opportunity to differentiate their business and exploit new revenue streams. Future research can apply this approach to further industry and product sectors, validate the database prototype in a practical context, and can serve as a basis for standardization efforts to strengthen the circular economy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20model" title="business model">business model</a>,
