He won the Science Educator Award presented by the Society for Neuroscience and the B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology twice. From few years ago introduced irradiation of blood components in Serbia, in Novi Sad, and most of the blood components that are irradiated are for oncology, hematology, in adults and children. He is more than 15 years dealing with Siberian natural products, some Chinese, one African and one South American. All are extremely effective and helpful. In 2003 received the Andalusia Research Award and the Huelva Industry Excellence Award. In 2022 has received the Gold Medal of the University of Huelva. He is the author or co-author of over 300 scientific publications (h-index 46), several books and book chapters, as well as over 600 contributions to scientific conferences, he also holds several patents. Professor Bäckström's main focus of research since 1972 is the effect of sex and stress hormones on the brain and in particular on the GABA-system, and conditions induced by these hormones. He has published more than 400 scientific publications within this area and he is a frequently invited key-note speaker at scientific meetings around the world. In 1989 professor Bäckström served several years on the scientific advisory board of the pharmaceutical company, CoCensys in the US, a company based on his own and the research of professor Kelvin Gee from University of California. Several active compounds were developed and one of these is currently in phase III of clinical development. He obtained his Master’s Degree from Bihar University with special expertise in Cell Biology in 1976. Dr Sharma obtained his Doctor of Philosophy Degree (D.Phil.) in Neurosciences and was awarded his Ph.D in 1982 from Banaras Hindu University. After carrying out a series of Government of India-funded Research Projects on the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) and brain dysfunction, Dr Sharma joined the lab of Neuropathology at Uppsala University, with Professor Yngve Olsson, to investigate passage of tracer transport across the BBB, caused by stress to the brain and spinal cord. In 1991, Dr Sharma was awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellowship of German Government for his work on hyperthermia-induced BBB dysfunction at the ultrastructural level in the laboratory of Professor Jorge Cervós-Navarro. Currently, his main research interest is Neuroprotection and Neuroregeneration in relation to the BBB in stress, trauma, and drugs of abuse in health and disease. In 2020 he was elected as the member of The Academia Europaea. In 2017 he received a degree of Prof. Honoris Causa from the Univ. of Tourism and Management Skopje, North Macedonia. During 2015 - 2017 he was professor of BioMarketing and Futures Research at the DCU Business School, Dublin City University, Ireland. This was the first Chair in the world on both domains - BioMarketing and Futures Research. Previously, and for 20 years, he had been appointed as the Foundation Chair of Marketing at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, Scotland. Previously, he got his first Chair in 1989 at the University of Wales College of Cardiff 1989-2006. Professor Moutinho completed his PhD at the University of Sheffield in 1982. He has been a Full Professor for 34 years and has held Visiting Professorship positions at numerous universities worldwide. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Modelling in Management (JM2) and Co-editor-in-Chief of the Innovative Marketing Journal. His main areas of research interest encompass marketing, management and tourism futurecast, artificial intelligence, biometrics and neuroscience theory, evolutionary algorithms, human-computer interaction, the use of artificial neural networks in marketing, modelling processes of consumer behaviour, futures research. In Canada alone, an average of 42 people a day learn that they have Epilepsy and over 50 million people worldwide suffer from the disorder. I can say that I Beat Epilepsy. It was 6:30 AM on December 03, 2002. I remember being wheeled down the hall at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada by the porter with the silence it felt like we were the only ones in the building. You could hear a pin drop. I had lived with epilepsy for almost 20 years of my life and that was about to change. Left selective Amygdalohippocampectomy is the surgery I was about to undergo and it is what cured me of my seizures. The left parahippocampal gyrus, left amygdale and left hippocampus were removed; structures within the left temporal lobe. I had 6 seizures 2 days before the surgery and I have not had one since. Since my surgery, I have accomplished some amazing tasks in my life. I have written two books, was asked to be a Canadian Advocate for Epilepsy in 2012 and have been a motivational speaker for over 8 years. Helping others is my passion, is my calling.
