Still, Code Geass was the most popular series between the years 2006 and 2008 and there's still people talking about the show online, but I feel it's already old enough that younger anime fans probably haven't heard about it, aside from some references online. Rozé from the Recapture wasn't as popular compared to other anime that premiered this year, though to be fair, the series had a lot of problems. <br> I don't know if Bandai/Sunrise is kind of desperate to have another popular mecha series alongside Gundam and since the orginal Code Geass is approaching its 20th anniversary I can imagine a remake being considered. There were a few issues with Roze of the Recapture, including the fact that Disney+ does not promote the majority of their anime productions and that limits exposure in the West, but I'd argue it likely was considered a success in objective terms. <br> <br> You can easily find a lot of positive comments about the majority of Roze, especially if you can read posts on Japanese social media and how they reacted to each of the Roze films every month. Outside of the last film, which had some controversial parts (although one or two of those could be easily resolved with a sequel or prequel), most Japanese Code Geass fans were satisfied, so it would be natural for there to be more Code Geass projects in the works. <br> <br> There's admittedly a number of things that could have been improved, particularly at the end of the story, and Roze certainly could have used either more episodes or more editing to streamline the large cast, yet what ultimately matters is it was generally well-received in Japan. It seems the Lost Stories mobile game is also doing quite well, even though the global version has ended. <br> <br> In any case, each project would have to be judged by its own merits. "We're working on more Code Geass" is a very open-ended statement. Aside from Buddy Complex the other original mecha anime made by Sunrise was AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline, which also felt like a combination between Code Geass, since the series Japan portrayed Japan as an occupied territory, but the mechs looked like Mobile Suits and I think the character designs were done by the same person who designed the characters in Iron-Blooded Orphans, AMAIM managed to get a continuation which aired recently. <br> Speaking about Taniguchi, the only other series directed by him that I watched in its entirety was Infinite Ryvious, which I actually really enjoyed, but that anime predates Code Geass by 7 or so years. On one hand I'm glad that Code Geass is still popular and going strong all these years later. On the other hand I'm sad that it came at the cost of retconning the original anime series(creating an alternate universe) and undoing a 'perfect' ending(2008). An ending that could have continued but they'd have to deal with certain consequences instead they took the easy way out and just retconned pivotal scenes. Or so I've read.
