Is her younger<MH6996a> sister<MH269> not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>more<MH4480, 2896a> beautiful<MH2896a> than<MH4480> she? Please<MH4994> let her be yours <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>instead<MH8478>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Samson<MH8123> then said<MH559> to them, “This<MH6471> time<MH6471> I will have been<MH5352> blameless<MH5352> regarding<MH4480> the Philistines<MH6430> when<MH3588> I do<MH6213a> them harm<MH7463a>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And Samson<MH8123> went<MH1980> and caught<MH3920> three<MH7969> hundred<MH3967> jackals<MH7776>, and took<MH3947> torches<MH3940>, and turned<MH6437> <i>the jackals</i> tail<MH2180> to tail<MH2180> and put<MH7760> one<MH259> torch<MH3940> in the middle<MH8432> between<MH996> two<MH8147> tails<MH2180>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>When he had set<MH1197a> fire<MH784> to the torches<MH3940>, he released<MH7971> <i>the jackals</i> into the standing<MH7054> grain<MH7054> of the Philistines<MH6430> and set<MH1197a> fire<MH1197a> to both<MH4480> the bundled<MH1430a> heaps<MH1430a> and the standing<MH7054> grain<MH7054>, along<MH5704> with the vineyards<MH3754> <i>and</i> olive<MH2132> groves<MH2132>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then the Philistines<MH6430> said<MH559>, “Who<MH4310> did<MH6213a> this<MH2088>?” And <i>some</i> said<MH559>, “Samson<MH8123>, the son-in-law<MH2860a> of the Timnite<MH8554>, because<MH3588> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>he took<MH3947> his wife<MH802> and gave<MH5414> her to his companion<MH4828>.” So the Philistines<MH6430> came<MH5927> up<MH5927> and burned<MH8313> her and her father<MH1> <i>to death</i> with fire<MH784>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then Samson<MH8123> said<MH559> to them, “If<MH518> this<MH2088> is how you act<MH6213a>, I will certainly<MH3588, 518> take<MH5358> revenge<MH5358> on you, and <i>only</i> after<MH310> <i>that</i> will I stop<MH2308>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>So he struck<MH5221> them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>ruthlessly<MH7785, 5921, 3409> with a great<MH1419> slaughter<MH4347>; and <i>afterward</i> he went<MH3381> down<MH3381> and lived<MH3427> in the cleft<MH5585> of the rock<MH5553> of Etam<MH5862>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then the Philistines<MH6430> went<MH5927> up<MH5927> and camped<MH2583> in Judah<MH3063>, and spread<MH6566> out<MH6566> in Lehi<MH3896>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>So the men<MH376> of Judah<MH3063> said<MH559>, “Why<MH4100> have you come<MH5927> up<MH5927> against<MH5921> us?” And they said<MH559>, “We have come<MH5927> up<MH5927> to bind<MH631> Samson<MH8123> in order to do<MH6213a> to him as he did<MH6213a> to us.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Then three<MH7969> thousand<MH505> men<MH376> of Judah<MH3063> went<MH3381> down<MH3381> to the cleft<MH5585> of the rock<MH5553> of Etam<MH5862> and said<MH559> to Samson<MH8123>, “Do you not know<MH3045> that the Philistines<MH6430> are rulers<MH4910> over us? What<MH4100> then is this<MH2088> that you have done<MH6213a> to us?” And he said<MH559> to them, “Just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> they did<MH6213a> to me, so<MH3651> I have done<MH6213a> to them.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then they said<MH559> to him, “We have come<MH3381> down<MH3381> to bind<MH631> you so that we may hand<MH5414, 3027> you over<MH5414> to the Philistines<MH6430>.” And Samson<MH8123> said<MH559> to them, “Swear<MH7650> to me that you will not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>kill<MH6293> me.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>So they said<MH559> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>him, “No<MH3808>, but we will bind<MH631> you tightly<MH631> and give<MH5414> you into their hands<MH3027>; but we certainly<MH4191> will not kill<MH4191> you.” Then they bound<MH631> him with two<MH8147> new<MH2319> ropes<MH5688>, and brought<MH5927> him up<MH5927> from the rock<MH5553>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>When he came<MH935> to Lehi<MH3896>, the Philistines<MH6430> shouted<MH7321> as they met<MH7122> him. And the Spirit<MH7307> of the LORD<MH3068> rushed<MH6743a> upon<MH5921> him so that the ropes<MH5688> that were on his arms<MH2220> were like flax<MH6593> that has burned<MH1197a> with fire<MH784>, and his restraints<MH612> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>dropped<MH4549> from his hands<MH3027>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Then he found<MH4672> a fresh<MH2961> jawbone<MH3895> of a donkey<MH2543>, so he reached<MH7971> out<MH7971> with his hand<MH3027> and took<MH3947> it, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>killed<MH5221> a thousand<MH505> men<MH376> with it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And Samson<MH8123> said<MH559>, <p class="indent1stline">“With the jawbone<MH3895> of a donkey<MH2543>, <t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Heaps<MH2565> upon heaps<MH2565>, <t><p class="indent1">With the jawbone<MH3895> of a donkey<MH2543> <t><p class="indent1">I have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>killed<MH5221> a thousand<MH505> men<MH376>.” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>When he had finished<MH3615> speaking<MH1696>, he threw<MH7993> the jawbone<MH3895> from his hand<MH3027>; and he named<MH7121> that place<MH4725> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>Ramath-lehi<MH7437a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then he became<MH6770> very<MH3966> thirsty<MH6770>, and he called<MH7121> to the LORD<MH3068> and said<MH559>, “You have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>handed<MH5414, 3027> this<MH2088> great<MH1419> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>victory<MH8668> over<MH5414> to Your servant<MH5650>, and now<MH6258> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>am I to die<MH4191> of thirst<MH6772> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>and fall<MH5307> into the hands<MH3027> of the uncircumcised<MH6189>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/15-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>But God<MH430> split<MH1234> the hollow<MH4388> place<MH4388> that is in Lehi<MH3896> so that water<MH4325> came<MH3318> out<MH3318> of it. When he drank<MH8354>, his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>strength<MH7307> returned<MH7725> and he revived<MH2421a>.
