<span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>Then Simon Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Leaders of the people and elders of the house of Israel, listen. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>If we are convicted today by you, concerning the good which has been done to a sick man, on the ground of by what means he was healed; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>Then let it be known to you, and to all the people of Israel, By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, and whom God raised from the dead, behold this man stands before you, healed. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>This is the stone which you builders have rejected, which is become the head of the corner. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>There is no salvation by any other man; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>Now when they had heard the speech of Simon Peter and John, which they had spoken boldly, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they recognized them that they had been with Jesus. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>And because they saw the lame man who was healed standing with them they could say nothing against them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>But when they had commanded them to be taken aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>Saying, What shall we do to these men? for behold a miracle has openly been performed by them and it is known to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>But, so that this news should not spread further among the people, let us threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>But Simon Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it be right before God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>For we cannot stop speaking about the things which we have seen and heard. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>So when they had further threatened them, they let them go; for they found no cause to punish them because of the people: for all men praised God for that which was done. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>For the man on whom this miracle of healing had been wrought, was more than forty years old.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>After they were released, they went to their brethren and told them all that the high priests and elders had said. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>And when they heard this, they all together lifted up their voice to God and said, O LORD, you are the God who has made heaven and earth and the seas and all that in them is:<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>You are the One who spoke through the Holy Spirit by the mouth of your servant David when he said, Why did the people rage and the nations devise worthless things?<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>The kings and the rulers of the earth have revolted and have taken counsel together against the LORD and against his Anointed.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>For truly, they assembled in this very city, together with both Herod and Pilate and with the Gentiles and with the people of Israel, against your holy Son Jesus, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>To execute whatever your hand and your will had previously decreed to take place. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>And even now, O LORD, look and see their threatenings; and grant to your servants that they may freely preach your word, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>Just as your hand is freely stretched out for healings, and wonders and the miracles which are done in the name of your holy Son Jesus. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>And when they had petitioned and made their supplications, the place in which they were assembled together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God boldly.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>Now the congregation of the believers were of one soul and of one mind; not one of them spoke of the property he possessed as his own; but everything they had was in common. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>And the apostles testified with great power concerning the resurrection of Jesus Christ; and they were all greatly favored. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>There was not a man among them who was destitute; for those who possessed fields and houses sold them and brought the money for the things that were sold, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>And placed them at the disposal of the disciples; and the proceeds were then given to every man according to his needs.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-36.htm#aramaic"><b>36</b></a></span>Now Joseph whom the apostles surnamed Bar&#8217;na-bas (which is, interpreted, the son of consolation), a Levite of the country of Cy&#8217;prus, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/4-37.htm#aramaic"><b>37</b></a></span>Had a field and he sold it and brought the price and placed it at the disposal of the apostles.<p><br /></div></div><div id="botbox"><div class="padbot"><div align="center">Holy Bible From The Ancient Eastern Texts: Aramaic Of The Peshitta by George M.
