It involves a recognition of one's own limitations and a willingness to submit to God's will. The Bible frequently emphasizes humility as a key characteristic of a faithful life.<br><br>In the Old Testament, humility is often associated with wisdom and the fear of the Lord. <a href="/proverbs/22-4.htm">Proverbs 22:4</a> states, "The rewards of humility and the fear of the LORD are wealth and honor and life." This verse highlights the blessings that accompany a humble spirit, suggesting that humility leads to divine favor and prosperity.<br><br>The New Testament further develops the theme of humility, particularly through the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. <a href="/philippians/2-3.htm">Philippians 2:3-8</a> exhorts believers to "do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves." In <a href="/matthew/6.htm">Matthew 6:1-4</a> , He warns against performing righteous acts for the sake of human recognition, advising, "Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven."
