It’s an unnecessary sequel that actually delivers. This fun, college-set comedy brings <strong>Channing Tatum</strong> and <strong>Jonah Hill</strong> back into the franchise fold where they excel in every way.</p> <h2>The Players:</h2> <ul> <li><strong>Directors</strong>: Christopher Miller and Phil Lord</li> <li><strong>Screenwriters</strong>: Michael Bacall, Oren Uziel and Rodney Rothman</li> <li><strong>Cast</strong>: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Amber Stevens, Wyatt Russell, Peter Stormare, Jillian Bell, The Lucas Brothers, Lucas Offerman, Jimmy Tatro, Rob Riggle, Dave Franco</li> <li><strong>Cinematography by</strong>: Barry Peterson</li> <li><strong>Original Music by</strong>: Mark Mothersbaugh</li> </ul> <h2>The Plot:</h2> <p><em>22 Jump Street</em> follows Officers Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) on their next big case. The duo goes undercover at a local college to stop the supplier of a new drug called WHYPHY (WiFi). After one student overdoses, everyone becomes a suspect. Once again, Schmidt and Jenko enroll in school in order to expose this new kingpin.</p> <h2>The Good:</h2> <ul> <li><strong>It’s self-aware</strong>: <em>22 Jump Street</em> knows it’s a sequel. It knows it’s part of a franchise and pokes fun at itself. That self-awareness pushes the film light-years ahead of its peers, because the screenplay doesn’t try to justify its existence. The movie knows it’s a cash-grab and wants you to know it knows. P.S. stay for the credits.</li> <li><strong>Smartly written</strong>: This is not another dumb comedy. If you don’t pay attention, you’ll miss out on some great gags. The sets, the music and the dialogue are all more than meets the eye. There are plenty of inside jokes about the production and Hollywood in general. Keep your eyes peeled.</li> <li><strong>The New Addition:</strong> Wyatt Russell stars as Zook, a football player who becomes Jenko’s kindred spirit. Russell is hilarious as the dumb jock, whose sole purpose in life is to eat, workout and play football. He has great comedic timing and wonderful chemistry with Tatum.</li> <li><strong>The Bromance:</strong> Speaking of chemistry, Tatum and Hill have still got it. The actors’ love and respect for each other is palpable. In the midst of all their characters’ case, their bromance is tested in multiple ways. There’s a similar subplot in the previous film, but <em>22 Jump Street</em> expounds upon it.</li> </ul> <h2>Overall:</h2> <p><em>22 Jump Street</em> does exactly what a sequel’s supposed to: It’s superior to the original.
