In France she proved little inclined to respect <a href="/wiki/Social_convention" class="mw-redirect" title="Social convention">social conventions</a> governing the life of a woman of her rank and proved a thorn in the side of the Tuscan authorities and the French monarchy, <a href="/wiki/Indulgent" class="mw-redirect" title="Indulgent">indulgent</a> though it was. </p><p>In later life, she eventually adopted more conventional behaviour, took up pious works and even reformed the convent that became her second residence in the Paris suburbs. Rendered <a href="/wiki/Financially_independent" class="mw-redirect" title="Financially independent">financially independent</a> by a legacy, she purchased a house in Paris, from which she spent the end of her life dispensing charity and keeping up dignified correspondence. </p> <meta property="mw:PageProp/toc" /> <div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Biography">Biography</h2><span class="mw-editsection"><span class="mw-editsection-bracket">[</span><a href="/w/index.php?title=Marguerite_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans&amp;action=edit&amp;section=1" title="Edit section: Biography"><span>edit</span></a><span class="mw-editsection-bracket">]</span></span></div> <div class="mw-heading mw-heading3"><h3 id="Early_life:_1645–1661"><span id="Early_life:_1645.E2.80.931661"></span>Early life: 1645–1661</h3><span class="mw-editsection"><span class="mw-editsection-bracket">[</span><a href="/w/index.php?title=Marguerite_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans&amp;action=edit&amp;section=2" title="Edit section: Early life: 1645–1661"><span>edit</span></a><span class="mw-editsection-bracket">]</span></span></div> <figure class="mw-halign-right" typeof="mw:File/Thumb"><a href="/wiki/File:Anne_Marie_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans,_Duchess_of_Montpensier,_La_Grande_Mademoiselle_-_Versailles_MV_3476.jpg" class="mw-file-description"><img alt="A portly blond-haired lady in a Baroque décolleté embraces an Easter lily." src="//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/fa/Anne_Marie_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans%2C_Duchess_of_Montpensier%2C_La_Grande_Mademoiselle_-_Versailles_MV_3476.jpg/200px-Anne_Marie_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans%2C_Duchess_of_Montpensier%2C_La_Grande_Mademoiselle_-_Versailles_MV_3476.jpg" decoding="async" width="200" height="255" class="mw-file-element" srcset="//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/fa/Anne_Marie_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans%2C_Duchess_of_Montpensier%2C_La_Grande_Mademoiselle_-_Versailles_MV_3476.jpg/300px-Anne_Marie_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans%2C_Duchess_of_Montpensier%2C_La_Grande_Mademoiselle_-_Versailles_MV_3476.jpg 1.5x, //upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/fa/Anne_Marie_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans%2C_Duchess_of_Montpensier%2C_La_Grande_Mademoiselle_-_Versailles_MV_3476.jpg/400px-Anne_Marie_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans%2C_Duchess_of_Montpensier%2C_La_Grande_Mademoiselle_-_Versailles_MV_3476.jpg 2x" data-file-width="1567" data-file-height="2000" /></a><figcaption>Marguerite Louise's favourite sister, the <a href="/wiki/Anne_Marie_Louise_d%27Orl%C3%A9ans" class="mw-redirect" title="Anne Marie Louise d&#39;Orléans">Duchess of Montpensier</a>, the wealthiest heiress in France</figcaption></figure> <p>Marguerite Louise, the eldest child of <a href="/wiki/Gaston,_Duke_of_Orl%C3%A9ans" title="Gaston, Duke of Orléans">Gaston of France, Duke of Orléans</a>, and of his second wife, <a href="/wiki/Marguerite_of_Lorraine" title="Marguerite of Lorraine">Marguerite of Lorraine</a>, was born on 28 July 1645<a href="#cite_note-Acton54-1"><span class="cite-bracket">&#91;</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">&#93;</span></a> at the <a href="/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Blois" class="mw-redirect" title="Château de Blois">Château de Blois</a>.
