And seeing<MG3708> their faith<MG4102>, Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to the man<MG3885> who was paralyzed<MG3885>, “Take<MG2293> courage<MG2293>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>son<MG5043>; your sins<MG266> are forgiven<MG863>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And some<MG5100> of the scribes<MG1122> said<MG3004> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>to themselves<MG1438>, “This<MG3778> man<MG3778> is blaspheming<MG987>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424>, perceiving<MG3708> their thoughts<MG1761>, said<MG3004>, “Why<MG2444> are you thinking<MG1760> evil<MG4190> in your hearts<MG2588>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>For which<MG5101> is easier<MG2123>, to say<MG3004>, ‘Your sins<MG266> are forgiven<MG863>,’ or<MG2228> to say<MG3004>, ‘Get<MG1453> up<MG1453> and walk<MG4043>’? <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>But so<MG2443> that<MG2443> you may know<MG3609a> that the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> has<MG2192> authority<MG1849> on earth<MG1093> to forgive<MG863> sins<MG266>”—then<MG5119> He *said<MG3004> to the paralyzed<MG3885> man<MG3885>, “Get<MG1453> up<MG1453>, pick<MG142> up<MG142> your stretcher<MG2825b> and go<MG5217> home<MG3624>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And he got<MG1453> up<MG1453> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>went<MG565> home<MG3624>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>But when the crowds<MG3793> saw<MG3708> <i>this,</i> they were<MG5399> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>awestruck<MG5399>, and they glorified<MG1392> God<MG2316>, who had given<MG1325> such<MG5108> authority<MG1849> to men<MG444>. <p class="hdg">Matthew Called</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>As Jesus<MG2424> went<MG3855> on from<MG1564> there<MG1564>, He saw<MG3708> a man<MG444> called<MG3004> Matthew<MG3102b> sitting<MG2521> in the tax<MG5058> collector’s<MG5058> office<MG5058>; and He *said<MG3004> to him, “Follow<MG190> Me!” And he got<MG450> up<MG450> and followed<MG190> Him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then<MG2532> it happened<MG1096> that as <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Jesus<MG2424> was reclining<MG345> <i>at the table</i> in the house<MG3614>, behold<MG2400>, many<MG4183> tax<MG5057> collectors<MG5057> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>sinners<MG268> came<MG2064> and <i>began</i> dining<MG4873> with Jesus<MG2424> and His disciples<MG3101>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And when the Pharisees<MG5330> saw<MG3708> <i>this,</i> they said<MG3004> to His disciples<MG3101>, “Why<MG1223, 5101> is your Teacher<MG1320> eating<MG2068> with the tax<MG5057> collectors<MG5057> and sinners<MG268>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>But when <i>Jesus</i> heard<MG191> <i>this,</i> He said<MG3004>, “<i>It is</i> not those<MG3588> who are healthy<MG2480> who need<MG2192, 5532> a physician<MG2395>, but those<MG3588> who are sick<MG2192, 2560>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> go<MG4198> and learn<MG3129> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>what<MG5101> this means<MG1510>: ‘I DESIRE<MG2309> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>COMPASSION<MG1656>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>RATHER<MG3756> THAN<MG2532> SACRIFICE<MG2378>,’ for I did not come<MG2064> to call<MG2564> the righteous<MG1342>, but sinners<MG268>.” <p class="hdg">The Question about Fasting</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> the disciples<MG3101> of John<MG2491> *came<MG4334> to Him, asking<MG3004>, “Why<MG1223, 5101> do we and the Pharisees<MG5330> fast<MG3522>, but Your disciples<MG3101> do not fast<MG3522>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “The <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>attendants<MG5207> of the groom<MG3567> cannot<MG1410, 3361> mourn<MG3996> as long<MG3745> as the groom<MG3566> is with them, can they? But the days<MG2250> will come<MG2064> when<MG3752> the groom<MG3566> is taken<MG522> away<MG522> from them, and then<MG5119> they will fast<MG3522>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But no<MG3762> one<MG3762> puts<MG1911> a patch<MG1915> of unshrunk<MG46> cloth<MG4470> on an old<MG3820> garment<MG2440>; for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>the patch<MG4138> pulls<MG142> away<MG575> from the garment<MG2440>, and a worse<MG5501> tear<MG4978> results<MG1096>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Nor<MG3761> do <i>people</i> put<MG906> new<MG3501b> wine<MG3631> into old<MG3820> wineskins<MG779>; otherwise<MG1490b> the wineskins<MG779> burst<MG4486>, and the wine<MG3631> pours<MG1632a> out<MG1632a> and the wineskins<MG779> are ruined<MG622>; but they put<MG906> new<MG3501b> wine<MG3631> into fresh<MG2537> wineskins<MG779>, and both<MG297> are preserved<MG4933>.” <p class="hdg">Miracles of Healing</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>While He was saying<MG2980> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> to them, behold<MG2400>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>a <i>synagogue</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>official<MG758> came<MG4334> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>bowed<MG4352> down<MG4352> before<MG4352> Him, and said<MG3004>, “My daughter<MG2364> has just<MG737> died<MG5053>; but come<MG2064> and lay<MG2007> Your hand<MG5495> on her, and she will become<MG2198> alive<MG2198> again<MG2198>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> got<MG1453> up<MG1453> <i>from the table</i> and <i>began to</i> accompany<MG190> him, along with His disciples<MG3101>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And behold<MG2400>, a woman<MG1135> who had been suffering<MG131> from<MG131> a<MG131> hemorrhage<MG131> for twelve<MG1427> years<MG2094> came<MG4334> up<MG4334> behind<MG3693> Him, and touched<MG681> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>border<MG2899> of His <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>cloak<MG2440>; your faith<MG4102> has <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>made<MG4982> you well<MG4982>.” And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>at once<MG1565, 5610> the woman<MG1135> was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>made<MG4982> well<MG4982>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>When Jesus<MG2424> came<MG2064> into the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>official’s<MG758> house<MG3614> and saw<MG3708> the flute<MG834> players<MG834> and the crowd<MG3793> in<MG2350b> noisy<MG2350b> disorder<MG2350b>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>He said<MG3004>, “Leave<MG402>; for the girl<MG2877> has not died<MG599>, but is<MG2518> asleep<MG2518>.” And they <i>began</i> laughing<MG2606> at<MG2606> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But when<MG3753> the crowd<MG3793> had been sent<MG1544b> out<MG1544b>, He entered<MG1525> and took<MG2902> her by the hand<MG5495>, and the girl<MG2877> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>got<MG1453> up<MG1453>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And this<MG3778> news<MG5345> spread<MG1831> throughout<MG1519, 3650> that land<MG1093>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>As Jesus<MG2424> went<MG3855> on from<MG1564> there<MG1564>, two<MG1417> men<MG5185> who<MG5185> were<MG5185> blind<MG5185> followed<MG190> Him, crying<MG2896> out<MG2896>, “Have<MG1653> mercy<MG1653> on us, Son<MG5207> of David<MG1160b>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And after He entered<MG2064> the house<MG3614>, the men<MG5185> who<MG5185> were<MG5185> blind<MG5185> came<MG4334> up<MG4334> to Him, and Jesus<MG2424> *said<MG3004> to them, “Do you believe<MG4100> that I am<MG1410> able<MG1410> to do<MG4160> this<MG3778>?” They *said<MG3004> to Him, “Yes<MG3483a>, Lord<MG2962>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> He touched<MG681> their eyes<MG3788>, saying<MG3004>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>It shall be done<MG1096> for you according<MG2596> to your faith<MG4102>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And their eyes<MG3788> were opened<MG455>. And Jesus<MG2424> sternly<MG1690> warned<MG1690> them, saying<MG3004>, “See<MG3708> that no<MG3367> one<MG3367> knows<MG1097> <i>about this!</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>But they went<MG1831> out<MG1831> and spread<MG1310> the<MG1310> news<MG1310> about Him throughout<MG1722, 3650> that land<MG1093>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And as they were going<MG1831> out<MG1831>, behold<MG2400>, a demon-possessed<MG1139> man<MG444> who was unable<MG2974> to speak<MG2974> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>was brought<MG4374> to Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/9-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And after the demon<MG1140> was cast<MG1544b> out<MG1544b>, the man<MG2974> who was <i>previously</i> unable<MG2974> to speak<MG2974> talked<MG2980>;
