you shall hamstring<MH6136b> their horses<MH5483b> and burn<MH8313> their chariots<MH4818> with fire<MH784>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> and all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> of war<MH4421> with him came<MH935> upon them suddenly<MH6597> at the waters<MH4325> of Merom<MH4792>, and attacked<MH5307> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> handed<MH3027, 5414> them over<MH5414> to Israel<MH3478>, so that they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>defeated<MH5221> them, and pursued<MH7291> them as far<MH5704> as Great<MH7227a> Sidon<MH6721>, and Misrephoth-maim<MH4956>, and the Valley<MH1237> of Mizpeh<MH4708> to the east<MH4217>; and they struck<MH5221> them until<MH5704> no<MH1115> survivor<MH8300> was left<MH7604> to them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And Joshua<MH3091> did<MH6213a> to them just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had told<MH559> him; he hamstrung<MH6136b> their horses<MH5483b> and burned<MH8313> their chariots<MH4818> with fire<MH784>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> turned<MH7725> back<MH7725> at that time<MH6256> and captured<MH3920> Hazor<MH2674>, and struck<MH5221> its king<MH4428> with the sword<MH2719>; for Hazor<MH2674> previously<MH6440> was the head<MH7218> of all<MH3605> these<MH428> kingdoms<MH4467>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>They struck<MH5221> every<MH3605> person<MH5315> who<MH834> was in it with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>utterly<MH2763a> destroying<MH2763a> <i>them;</i> there was no<MH3808, 3605> one left<MH3498> who<MH5397> breathed<MH5397>. And he burned<MH8313> Hazor<MH2674> with fire<MH784>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Joshua<MH3091> captured<MH3920> all<MH3605> the cities<MH5892b> of these<MH428> kings<MH4428>, and all<MH3605> their kings<MH4428>; and he struck<MH5221> them with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719> <i>and</i> utterly<MH2763a> destroyed<MH2763a> them, just<MH3512c> as Moses<MH4872> the servant<MH5650> of the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>However<MH7534b>, Israel<MH3478> did not burn<MH8313> any<MH3605> cities<MH5892b> that stood<MH5975> on their mounds<MH8510>, except<MH2108> Hazor<MH2674> alone<MH905>, <i>which</i> Joshua<MH3091> burned<MH8313>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And all<MH3605> the spoils<MH7998> of these<MH428> cities<MH5892b> and the cattle<MH929>, the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> took<MH962> as their plunder<MH962>; but they struck<MH5221> every<MH3605> person<MH120> with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>, until<MH5704> they had destroyed<MH8045> them. They left<MH7604> no<MH3808> one<MH3605> breathing<MH5397>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> His servant<MH5650> Moses<MH4872>, so<MH3651> Moses<MH4872> commanded<MH6680> Joshua<MH3091>, and so<MH3651> Joshua<MH3091> did<MH6213a>; he left<MH5493> nothing<MH3808, 1697> undone<MH5493, 3808> of all<MH3605> that the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> took<MH3947> all<MH3605> that land<MH776>: the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> and all<MH3605> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Negev<MH5045>, all<MH3605> the land<MH776> of Goshen<MH1657>, the lowland<MH8219>, the Arabah<MH6160>, the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Israel<MH3478> and its lowland<MH8219> <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>from Mount<MH2022> Halak<MH2510>, that rises<MH5927> toward Seir<MH8165>, even as far<MH5704> as Baal-gad<MH1171> in the Valley<MH1237> of Lebanon<MH3844> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>at<MH8478> the<MH8478> foot<MH8478> of<MH8478> Mount<MH2022> Hermon<MH2768>. And he captured<MH3920> all<MH3605> their kings<MH4428>, and struck<MH5221> them and put<MH4191> them to<MH4191> death<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Joshua<MH3091> waged<MH6213a> war<MH4421> a long<MH7227a> time<MH3117> with all<MH3605> these<MH428> kings<MH4428>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>There was not a city<MH5892b> which<MH834> made<MH7999b> peace<MH7999b> with the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> except<MH1115> the Hivites<MH2340> living<MH3427> in Gibeon<MH1391>; they took<MH3947> them all<MH3605> in battle<MH4421>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>For it was of the LORD<MH3068> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>harden<MH2388> their hearts<MH3820>, to meet<MH7122> Israel<MH3478> in battle<MH4421> in<MH4616> order<MH4616> that<MH4616> he might utterly<MH2763a> destroy<MH2763a> them, that they might <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>receive<MH1961> no<MH1115> mercy<MH8467>, but that he might destroy<MH8045> them, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> came<MH935> at that time<MH6256> and eliminated<MH3772> the Anakim<MH6062> from the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022>, from Hebron<MH2275a>, Debir<MH1688>, Anab<MH6024>, and from all<MH3605> the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Judah<MH3063> and all<MH3605> the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Israel<MH3478>. Joshua<MH3091> utterly<MH2763a> destroyed<MH2763a> them with their cities<MH5892b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>There were no<MH3808> Anakim<MH6062> left<MH3498> in the land<MH776> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>; only<MH7534b> in Gaza<MH5804a>, Gath<MH1661>, and Ashdod<MH795> <i>some</i> remained<MH7604>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/11-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> took<MH3947> the whole<MH3605> land<MH776>, in accordance with everything<MH3605> that the LORD<MH3068> had spoken<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872>; and Joshua<MH3091> gave<MH5414> it as an inheritance<MH5159> to Israel<MH3478> according to their divisions<MH4256> by their tribes<MH7626>.
