infrastructure-less network of mobile devices, also known as nodes. These nodes heavily rely on each other’s resources such as memory, computing power, and energy. Thus, some nodes may become selective in forwarding packets so as to conserve their resources. These nodes are called misleading nodes. Several reputation-based techniques (e.g. CORE, CONFIDANT, LARS, SORI, OCEAN) and acknowledgment-based techniques (e.g. TWOACK, S-TWOACK, EAACK) have been proposed to detect such nodes. These techniques do not appropriately punish misleading nodes. Hence, this paper addresses the limitations of these techniques using a system called MINDRA. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acknowledgment-based%20techniques" title="acknowledgment-based techniques">acknowledgment-based techniques</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20ad-hoc%20network" title=" mobile ad-hoc network"> mobile ad-hoc network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=selfish%20nodes" title=" selfish nodes"> selfish nodes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reputation-based%20techniques" title=" reputation-based techniques"> reputation-based techniques</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49862/misleading-node-detection-and-response-mechanism-in-mobile-ad-hoc-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/49862.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">385</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">56</span> Automatic MC/DC Test Data Generation from Software Module Description</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sekou%20Kangoye">Sekou Kangoye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Todoskoff"> Alexis Todoskoff</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mihaela%20Barreau"> Mihaela Barreau</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Modified Condition/Decision Coverage (MC/DC) is a structural coverage criterion that is highly recommended or required for safety-critical software coverage. Therefore, many testing standards include this criterion and require it to be satisfied at a particular level of testing (e.g. validation and unit levels). However, an important amount of time is needed to meet those requirements. In this paper we propose to automate MC/DC test data generation. Thus, we present an approach to automatically generate MC/DC test data, from software module description written over a dedicated language. We introduce a new merging approach that provides high MC/DC coverage for the description, with only a little number of test cases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=domain-specific%20language" title="domain-specific language">domain-specific language</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MC%2FDC" title=" MC/DC"> MC/DC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=test%20data%20generation" title=" test data generation"> test data generation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=safety-critical%20software%20coverage" title=" safety-critical software coverage"> safety-critical software coverage</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29445/automatic-mcdc-test-data-generation-from-software-module-description" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29445.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">441</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">55</span> 3D Model Completion Based on Similarity Search with Slim-Tree</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Aldo%20Mendoza%20Villarroel">Alexis Aldo Mendoza Villarroel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ademir%20Clemente%20Villena%20Zevallos"> Ademir Clemente Villena Zevallos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cristian%20Jose%20Lopez%20Del%20Alamo"> Cristian Jose Lopez Del Alamo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> With the advancement of technology it is now possible to scan entire objects and obtain their digital representation by using point clouds or polygon meshes. In this article an approach from a different paradigm is proposed, using metric data structures to index global descriptors in the spectral domain and allow the recovery of a set of similar models in polynomial time; to later use the Iterative Close Point algorithm and recover the parts of the incomplete model using the geometry and topology of the model with less Hausdorff distance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20reconstruction%20method" title="3D reconstruction method">3D reconstruction method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=point%20cloud%20completion" title=" point cloud completion"> point cloud completion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shape%20completion" title=" shape completion"> shape completion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=similarity%20search" title=" similarity search"> similarity search</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121412/3d-model-completion-based-on-similarity-search-with-slim-tree" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121412.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">122</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">54</span> Impact of Primary Care on Sexual and Reproductive Health for Migrant Women in Medellín Colombia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Piedrahita">Alexis Piedrahita</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ludi%20Valencia"> Ludi Valencia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aura%20Gutierrez"> Aura Gutierrez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The migration crisis that is currently being experienced in the world is a continuous phenomenon that has had solutions in form but not in substance, violating the international humanitarian law of people who are in transit through countries foreign to their roots, especially women of age reproductive, this has caused different governments and organizations worldwide to meet around this problem to define concise actions to protect the rights of migrant women in the world. In the context of automotive, MC/DC is highly recommended and even required for most security and safety applications testing. However, due to complex Boolean expressions that often embedded in those applications, generating a set of MC/DC compliant test cases for any of these expressions is a nontrivial task and can be time consuming for testers. In this paper we present an approach to automatically generate MC/DC test cases for any Boolean expression. We introduce novel techniques, essentially based on binary trees to quickly and optimally generate MC/DC test cases for the expressions. Thus, the approach can be used to reduce the manual testing effort of testers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=binary%20trees" title="binary trees">binary trees</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MC%2FDC" title=" MC/DC"> MC/DC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=test%20case%20generation" title=" test case generation"> test case generation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nontrivial%20task" title=" nontrivial task"> nontrivial task</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29442/practical-methods-for-automatic-mcdc-test-cases-generation-of-boolean-expressions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29442.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">447</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">52</span> The Erasure of Sex and Gender Minorities by Misusing Sex and Gender in Public Health</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tessalyn%20Morrison">Tessalyn Morrison</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Dinno"> Alexis Dinno</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taurica%20Salmon"> Taurica Salmon</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Sex and gender conflation continue to perpetuate the invisibility of gender minorities and obscure information about the ways that biological sex and gender affect health. The misuse of sex and gender terms, and their respective binaries, can yield inaccurate results. But more importantly, it contributes to the erasure of sex and gender minority health experiences. This paper discusses ways in which public health researchers can use sex and gender terms correctly and center the health experiences of intersex, transgender, non binary, and a-gender individuals. It includes promoting sensitivity in approaching minority communities, improving survey questions, and collaborating with sex and gender minority communities to improve research quality and participant experiences. Improving our standards for the quality of sex and gender term usage and centering sex and gender minorities in public health research are imperative to address the health inequalities faced by sex and gender minorities. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=epidemiology" title="epidemiology">epidemiology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender" title=" gender"> gender</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intersex" title=" intersex"> intersex</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=research%20methods" title=" research methods"> research methods</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sex" title=" sex"> sex</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transgender" title=" transgender"> transgender</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130169/the-erasure-of-sex-and-gender-minorities-by-misusing-sex-and-gender-in-public-health" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130169.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">239</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">51</span> Immunostimulant from Biodiversity to Enhance Shrimp Survival against Vibriosis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frank%20Alexis">Frank Alexis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jenny%20Antonia%20Rodriguez%20Leon"> Jenny Antonia Rodriguez Leon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cristobal%20Leonardo%20Dominguez%20Borbor"> Cristobal Leonardo Dominguez Borbor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mery%20Rosario%20Ramirez%20Munoz"> Mery Rosario Ramirez Munoz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The shrimp industry has increased in the last years to the point of becoming one of the most dynamic industries. However, the appearance of diseases that significantly affect the production of shrimps has been an obstacle for the shrimp industry. We hypothesized that natural fibers from biodiversity can stimulate the immune system to prevent shrimp diseases like vibriosis. In this project, we extracted the fibers from vegetal sources in Ecuador and characterized them using common techniques like XRD, SEM, and then we tested the effect of fibers as immunostimulants for shrimps in-vitro and in-vivo using small aquarium and large pools. Our results demonstrate that vegetal fibers can significantly increase the survival of shrimps. Moreover, the production of shrimps in a large pool was significantly increased. Lastly, the test of color and taste successfully surpass the control group of shrimps not treated with fiber food supplements. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fibers" title="fibers">fibers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immunostimulant" title=" immunostimulant"> immunostimulant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shrimp" title=" shrimp"> shrimp</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vibriosis" title=" vibriosis"> vibriosis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117615/immunostimulant-from-biodiversity-to-enhance-shrimp-survival-against-vibriosis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117615.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">50</span> Social and Economic Impact of Home Sharing in Metro Manila: Hosts' Perspective</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ma.%20Karen%20Jimeno">Ma. This study aims to describe the social and economic impact of home sharing in Metro Manila from the perspective of hosts. A cross-sectional survey questionnaire consisting of five-point Likert items was administered to 120 hosts in Metro Manila. Kruskal-Wallis test, together with Dunn’s pairwise comparison, was used in the analysis of data. Results show that there is a significant difference in the median scores between increased awareness of Filipino food/heritage and the pursuit of enjoyable life in terms of social impact. Economic-wise, the respondents, did not perceive that their businesses as an additional source of income for the local government. Yet, it is incomplete, as it neglects considering the importance of the singularity or uniqueness of the individual. In a first, deconstructive stage, this paper describes the Kantian account of human dignity as one among many conceptions of human dignity. It reads carefully into the original wording used by Kant in German and its English translations, as well as the works of modern commentators, to identify its shortcomings. In a second, constructive stage, it then draws on the theories of Aristotle, Alexis de Tocqueville, John Stuart Mill, and Hannah Arendt to try and enhance the Kantian conception, in the sense that these authors give major importance to the singularity of the individual. The Kantian theory can be perfected by including elements from the works of these authors, while at the same time being mindful of the dangers entailed in focusing too much on singularity. The conclusion of this paper is that the Kantian conception of human dignity can be enhanced if it acknowledges that not only morality has dignity, but also the irreplaceable human individual to the extent that she is a narrative, original creature with the potential to act morally. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=commonality" title="commonality">commonality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dignity" title=" dignity"> dignity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kant" title=" Kant"> Kant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=singularity" title=" singularity"> singularity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98121/kants-conception-of-human-dignity-and-the-importance-of-singularity-within-commonality" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98121.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">283</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">48</span> Molecular and Phytochemical Fingerprinting of Anti-Cancer Drug Yielding Plants in South India </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20John%20de%20Britto">Alexis John de Britto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Studies were performed to select the superior genotypes based on intra-specific variations, caused by phytogeographical, climatic and edaphic parameters of three anti cancer drug yielding mangrove plants such as Acanthus ilicifolius L., Calophyllum inophyllum L. and Excoecaria agallocha L. using ISSR (Inter Simple Sequence Repeats) markers and phytochemical analysis such as preliminary phytochemical tests, TLC, HPTLC, HPLC and antioxidant tests. Commonly, wood stains are petroleum-based and synthetically derived. Notably, commercially accessible wood stains exhibit around 4% greater volatility than the formulated wood stain (FWS), potentially indicating a heightened environmental impact. The application of FWS does not significantly affect the performance of polyurethane varnish. The impact of incorporating an FWS when was applied to Gmelina arborea wood sample, the initial lightness value (L*) of 68.5, a* 7.7, b* 29.2 decreased to 44.36, a* 23.49, b* 32.60, where a* denotes the red/ green value, b* denotes the yellow/ blue, indicating a shift towards darker shades. This alteration in lightness suggests that the FWS contains compounds or pigments that effectively absorb or scatter light, resulting in a change in the perceived color and visual appearance of the wood surface. Moreover, the successful formulation of an eco-friendly natural wood stain is detailed, presenting a promising alternative. This method finds applicability in the domains of furniture and handicraft creation, offering a sustainable choice for creative artisans. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=formulated%20wood%20stain%20%28FWS%29" title="formulated wood stain (FWS)">formulated wood stain (FWS)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20dyes" title=" natural dyes"> natural dyes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wood%20stains" title=" wood stains"> wood stains</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eco-friendly%20natural%20wood%20stain" title=" eco-friendly natural wood stain"> eco-friendly natural wood stain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=" title=""></a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171729/sustainable-wood-stains-derived-from-natural-dyes-for-green-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171729.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">97</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> Feasibility and Obstacles of Air Quality Attainment in Hong Kong from 2019 to 2025</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xuguo%20Zhang">Xuguo Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jimmy%20Fung"> Jimmy Fung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kenneth%20Leung"> Kenneth Leung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Lau"> Alexis Lau</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fine particulate matter concentrations have been decreasing in the past few years while the ozone concentrations are posing an increasing trend in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) of China. A series of control policies have been released to mitigate the country-wide air pollution, however, how to effectively evaluate the exercised control measures and efficiently reveal potential projected mitigation pathways are still limited. By refining an enhanced air-quality-modeling system, this study provides an account of the air quality assessments from 2019 to 2025 to appraise the air quality results and improvement under designed scenarios for assessing the optimum scope for tightening the Air Quality Objectives (AQOs). The results show that it is doable to tighten the 24-hour AQO for SO2 from the World Health Objective air quality guidelines Interim Targets Level-1 (IT-1) (125μg/m3) to IT-2 level (50μg/m3) with the current number of exceedance allowed (three) remains unchanged. It is also possible to tighten the annual AQO for PM2.5 from IT-1 (35 μg/m3) to IT 2 (25 μg/m3), and its 24-hr AQO from IT-1 (75 μg/m3) to IT 2 (50 μg/m3) with the number of exceedances allowed increased from current nine to 35. Regional cooperation under the development of the GBA cooperation are still needed to be focused and strengthen due to the cross-boundary transport characteristics of the air pollution. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20quality%20attainment" title="air quality attainment">air quality attainment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hong%20Kong" title=" Hong Kong"> Hong Kong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mitigation%20policy" title=" mitigation policy"> mitigation policy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20transport%20modeling" title=" chemical transport modeling"> chemical transport modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensitivity%20analysis" title=" sensitivity analysis"> sensitivity analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163195/feasibility-and-obstacles-of-air-quality-attainment-in-hong-kong-from-2019-to-2025" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163195.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">83</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> Feasibility Study for the Implementation of a Condition-Based Maintenance System in the UH-60 Helicopters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Santos%20Cabrera">Santos Cabrera</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Halbert%20Yesid"> Halbert Yesid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Moncada%20Nino"> Moncada Nino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alvaro%20Fernando"> Alvaro Fernando</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rincon%20Cuta"> Rincon Cuta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yeisson%20Alexis"> Yeisson Alexis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present work evaluates the feasibility of implementing a health and use monitoring system (HUMS), based on vibration analysis as a condition-based maintenance program for the UH60L 'Blackhawk' helicopters. Nse1, Nse3 and Nse4 are non-SMC components of the complex in which Nse3 stimulates the E3 ubiquitin ligase activity of Nse1 and is required for recruiting the complex on DNA. In most eukaryotes, Nse3 is a single protein, but in eutherians (placental mammals), it belongs to a large family of proteins called MAGE (Melanoma antigen) that share a conserved domain of about 200 aa known as MHD (Mage homology domain). MAGE assembles specific RING and HECT ubiquitin ligases and determines new substrates for ubiquitination. The MHD is required for the interaction with the cognate E3 ligase. Some MAGEs (referred to as Type I) are exclusively expressed in germ cells of the testis but are often expressed ectopically in cancer cells as the result of epigenetic modifications. The 12 MAGE-A genes belong to this category. Serval MAGE-A proteins could promote tumorigenesis by targeting tumor suppressor proteins (including p53) for ubiquitination and degradation. We showed that depletion of MAGE-A proteins in melanoma cells results in impaired DNA damage response and increased double-strand breaks after exposure to camptothecin. Moreover, it was shown that other actors of the DNA Damage Response were impacted when cells were depleted of MAGEA proteins. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20damage%20response" title="DNA damage response">DNA damage response</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=melanoma" title=" melanoma"> melanoma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=camptothecin" title=" camptothecin"> camptothecin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=new%20role" title=" new role"> new role</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MAGEA" title=" MAGEA"> MAGEA</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169692/melanoma-antigen-proteins-are-involved-in-dna-damage-response" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169692.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">101</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">43</span> Fluorination Renders the Wood Surface Hydrophobic without Any Loos of Physical and Mechanical Properties</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Martial%20Pouzet">Martial Pouzet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc%20Dubois"> Marc Dubois</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karine%20Charlet"> Karine Charlet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20B%C3%A9akou"> Alexis Béakou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The availability, the ecologic and economic characteristics of wood are advantages which explain the very wide scope of applications of this material, in several domains such as paper industry, furniture, carpentry and building. However, wood is a hygroscopic material highly sensitive to ambient humidity and temperature. The swelling and the shrinking caused by water absorption and desorption cycles lead to crack and deformation in the wood volume, making it incompatible for such applications. In this study, dynamic fluorination using F2 gas was applied to wood samples (douglas and silver fir species) to decrease their hydrophilic character. The covalent grafting of fluorine atoms onto wood surface through a conversion of C-OH group into C-F was validated by Fourier-Transform infrared spectroscopy and 19F solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. It revealed that the wood, which is initially hydrophilic, acquired a hydrophobic character comparable to that of the Teflon, thanks to fluorination. A good durability of this treatment was also determined by aging tests under ambient atmosphere and under UV irradiation. Moreover, this treatment allowed obtaining hydrophobic character without major structural (morphology, density and colour) or mechanical changes. The maintaining of these properties after fluorination, which requires neither toxic solvent nor heating, appears as a remarkable advantage over other more traditional physical and chemical wood treatments. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cellulose" title="cellulose">cellulose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectroscopy" title=" spectroscopy"> spectroscopy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20treatment" title=" surface treatment"> surface treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20absorption" title=" water absorption"> water absorption</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72715/fluorination-renders-the-wood-surface-hydrophobic-without-any-loos-of-physical-and-mechanical-properties" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72715.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">202</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">42</span> An Investigation into Mechanical Properties of Laser Fabricated 308LSi Stainless Steel Walls by Wire Feedstock</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Taiwo%20Ebenezer%20Abioye">Taiwo Ebenezer Abioye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Medrano-Tellez"> Alexis Medrano-Tellez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peter%20Kayode%20Farayibi"> Peter Kayode Farayibi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peter%20Kayode%20Oke"> Peter Kayode Oke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q="> </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Laser metal deposition by wire feedstock has been established as a process which can provide a high material deposition rate with good quality. Sound mechanical properties of the deposited parts are the pre-requisites for the real applications of this process. This paper investigates the laser metal deposition of 308LSi stainless steel wire within a process window. Single tracks and multiple layer thin-walls of 308LSi stainless steel wire were deposited on 304 stainless steel substrate. The grain structures of the built walls were examined using optical microscopy. The mechanical properties of the built walls including the micro-hardness and tensile properties along the transverse and longitudinal directions were investigated using Vickers hardness tester and tensile test machine. Long columnar grains were found growing in the wall building direction (transverse) and nucleation were observed at the boundary between two deposited layers due to remelting of the previously deposited layers. The results showed that the hardness values of the deposited walls (ranging between 194 HV and 167 HV) decreased from the track-substrate interface to the top of the wall. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of the wall (518 ± 7 MPa) showed dependence on wall building directions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=laser%20metal%20deposition" title="laser metal deposition">laser metal deposition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultimate%20tensile%20strength" title=" ultimate tensile strength"> ultimate tensile strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hardness" title=" hardness"> hardness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wall" title=" wall"> wall</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microstructure" title=" microstructure"> microstructure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45174/an-investigation-into-mechanical-properties-of-laser-fabricated-308lsi-stainless-steel-walls-by-wire-feedstock" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45174.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">410</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">41</span> Physical Tests on Localized Fluidization in Offshore Suction Bucket Foundations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Li-Hua%20Luu">Li-Hua Luu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Doghmane"> Alexis Doghmane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abbas%20Farhat"> Abbas Farhat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Sanayei"> Mohammad Sanayei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pierre%20Philippe"> Pierre Philippe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pablo%20Cuellar"> Pablo Cuellar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Suction buckets are promising innovative foundations for offshore wind turbines. They generally feature the shape of an inverted bucket and rely on a suction system as a driving agent for their installation into the seabed. Water is pumped out of the buckets that are initially placed to rest on the seabed, creating a net pressure difference across the lid that generates a seepage flow, lowers the soil resistance below the foundation skirt, and drives them effectively into the seabed. The stability of the suction mechanism as well as the possibility of a piping failure (i.e., localized fluidization within the internal soil plug) during their installation are some of the key questions that remain open. The present work deals with an experimental study of localized fluidization by suction within a fixed bucket partially embedded into a submerged artificial soil made of spherical beads. The transient process, from the onset of granular motion until reaching a stationary regime for the fluidization at the embedded bucket wall, is recorded using the combined optical techniques of planar laser-induced fluorescence and refractive index matching. To conduct a systematic study of the piping threshold for the seepage flow, we vary the beads size, the suction pressure, and the initial depth for the bucket. This experimental modelling, by dealing with erosion-related phenomena from a micromechanical perspective, shall provide qualitative scenarios for the local processes at work which are missing in the offshore practice so far. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluidization" title="fluidization">fluidization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micromechanical%20approach" title=" micromechanical approach"> micromechanical approach</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=offshore%20foundations" title=" offshore foundations"> offshore foundations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=suction%20bucket" title=" suction bucket"> suction bucket</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135044/physical-tests-on-localized-fluidization-in-offshore-suction-bucket-foundations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135044.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">182</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> Application of the Finite Window Method to a Time-Dependent Convection-Diffusion Equation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raoul%20Ouambo%20Tobou">Raoul Ouambo Tobou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Kuitche"> Alexis Kuitche</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcel%20Edoun"> Marcel Edoun</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The FWM (Finite Window Method) is a new numerical meshfree technique for solving problems defined either in terms of PDEs (Partial Differential Equation) or by a set of conservation/equilibrium laws. The principle behind the FWM is that in such problem each element of the concerned domain is interacting with its neighbors and will always try to adapt to keep in equilibrium with respect to those neighbors. This leads to a very simple and robust problem solving scheme, well suited for transfer problems. In this work, we have applied the FWM to an unsteady scalar convection-diffusion equation. Despite its simplicity, it is well known that convection-diffusion problems can be challenging to be solved numerically, especially when convection is highly dominant. This has led researchers to set the scalar convection-diffusion equation as a benchmark one used to analyze and derive the required conditions or artifacts needed to numerically solve problems where convection and diffusion occur simultaneously. We have shown here that the standard FWM can be used to solve convection-diffusion equations in a robust manner as no adjustments (Upwinding or Artificial Diffusion addition) were required to obtain good results even for high Peclet numbers and coarse space and time steps. A comparison was performed between the FWM scheme and both a first order implicit Finite Volume Scheme (Upwind scheme) and a third order implicit Finite Volume Scheme (QUICK Scheme). The results of the comparison was that for equal space and time grid spacing, the FWM yields a much better precision than the used Finite Volume schemes, all having similar computational cost and conditioning number. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Finite%20Window%20Method" title="Finite Window Method">Finite Window Method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Convection-Diffusion" title=" Convection-Diffusion"> Convection-Diffusion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Numerical%20Technique" title=" Numerical Technique"> Numerical Technique</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Convergence" title=" Convergence"> Convergence</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66015/application-of-the-finite-window-method-to-a-time-dependent-convection-diffusion-equation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66015.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">332</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Multiaxial Fatigue Analysis of a High Performance Nickel-Based Superalloy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=P.%20Selva">P. However, in recent years, significant advances in the fabrication process leading to grain size reduction have been made in order to improve fatigue properties of aircraft turbine discs. Indeed, a change in particle size affects the initiation mode of fatigue cracks as well as the fatigue life of the material. The present study aims to investigate the fatigue behavior of a newly developed nickel-based superalloy under biaxial-planar loading. Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) tests are performed at different stress ratios so as to study the influence of the multiaxial stress state on the fatigue life of the material. Full-field displacement and strain measurements as well as crack initiation detection are obtained using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) techniques. The aim of this presentation is first to provide an in-depth description of both the experimental set-up and protocol: the multiaxial testing machine, the specific design of the cruciform specimen and performances of the DIC code are introduced. Second, results for sixteen specimens related to different load ratios are presented. Crack detection, strain amplitude and number of cycles to crack initiation vs. triaxial stress ratio for each loading case are given. Third, from fractographic investigations by scanning electron microscopy it is found that the mechanism of fatigue crack initiation does not depend on the triaxial stress ratio and that most fatigue cracks initiate from subsurface carbides. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cruciform%20specimen" title="cruciform specimen">cruciform specimen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiaxial%20fatigue" title=" multiaxial fatigue"> multiaxial fatigue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nickel-based%20superalloy" title=" nickel-based superalloy"> nickel-based superalloy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22039/multiaxial-fatigue-analysis-of-a-high-performance-nickel-based-superalloy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22039.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">295</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">38</span> Interspecific Competition among Three Fruit Fly Species Infesting Watermelon and Zucchini (Cucurbitaceae)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gbenonsi%20A.%20Fabrice">Gbenonsi A. In sub-Saharan Africa, the native fruit fly species Dacus vertebratus (Bezzi) and Dacus ciliatus (Loew) (Diptera: Tephritidae) and the exotic Zeugodacus cucurbitae (Coquillett) are concurrent pests in the same host fruits; hence competition among them is likely to occur. We explored interspecific competition among these three fruit fly species on zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) and watermelon (Citrullus lanatus Thunb) (Cucurbitaceae) to improve our understanding of the interaction between the species and their capacity to coexist. We exposed the vegetable fruits to different densities of fruit fly species and studied their behavioural activities, evaluating the extrinsic competition. To assess intrinsic competition and understand the effect of co-occurrence inside the fruits, eggs of the three fruit flies were pairwise inoculated into the same fruits. Results showed that the behaviour on the fruits differed between the species and that the interspecific competition affected their developmental time and larval survival in both watermelon and zucchini. Z. cucurbitae were more aggressive than the other species and managed to oviposit more frequently. Emergence was reduced for D. ciliatus and D. vertebratus when inoculated together with Z. cucurbitae in watermelon but not in zucchini. Physical confrontations were more common in zucchini than in watermelon and were more frequently won by Z. cucurbitae than D. vertebratus and D. ciliatus. Interspecific competition information obtained about behavioural differences and interaction effects, providing background for explaining the present fruit fly guild on certain Cucurbitaceae fruits in West Africa. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=behavioural%20activities" title="behavioural activities">behavioural activities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=extrinsic%20competition" title=" extrinsic competition"> extrinsic competition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intrinsic%20competition" title=" intrinsic competition"> intrinsic competition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tephritidae" title=" Tephritidae"> Tephritidae</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117869/interspecific-competition-among-three-fruit-fly-species-infesting-watermelon-and-zucchini-cucurbitaceae" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117869.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Evaluation of Two Functional Food Products: Tortillas and Yogurt Based on Spirulina platensis and Haematococcus pluvialis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raul%20Alexis%20Sanchez%20Cornejo">Raul Alexis Sanchez Cornejo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elena%20Ivonne%20Mancera%20Andrade"> Elena Ivonne Mancera Andrade</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gibran%20Sidney%20Aleman%20Nava"> Gibran Sidney Aleman Nava</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Angel%20Josue%20Arteaga%20Garces"> Angel Josue Arteaga Garces</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Roberto%20Parra%20Saldivar"> Roberto Parra Saldivar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An unhealthy diet is one of the main factors for a wide range of chronical diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, among others. Nowadays, there is a current need to provide innovate healthy products to people in order to decrease the number of people with unhealthy diet. This study focuses on the production of two food products based on two microalgae strains: Tortillas with powder of Haematococcus pluvialis and Spirulina platensis biomass and yogurt with microencapsulated biomass of the same strains. S. platensis has been used widely as food supplements in a form of powder and pills due to its high content in proteins and fatty acids. Haematococcus pluvialis has been recognized for its ability to produce high-added value products under stressful conditions such as antioxidants (astaxanthin). Despite the benefits that those microalgae have, few efforts have been done to use them in food products. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the nutritional properties such as protein content, lipid fraction, carbohydrates, antioxidants,, and vitamins, that these microalgae strains provide to the food product. Additionally, physicochemical, and sensory evaluation were assessed to evaluate the quality of the product. The results obtained will dictate the feasibility of the product to be commercialized. These novel products will have the ability to change the nutritional intake and strength the health of the consumers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=functional%20food" title="functional food">functional food</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Haematococcus%20pluvialis" title=" Haematococcus pluvialis"> Haematococcus pluvialis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microalgae" title=" microalgae"> microalgae</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Spirulina%20platensis" title=" Spirulina platensis"> Spirulina platensis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tortilla" title=" tortilla"> tortilla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=yogurt" title=" yogurt"> yogurt</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57524/evaluation-of-two-functional-food-products-tortillas-and-yogurt-based-on-spirulina-platensis-and-haematococcus-pluvialis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57524.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">313</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> Statistical Modelling of Maximum Temperature in Rwanda Using Extreme Value Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emmanuel%20Iyamuremye">Emmanuel Iyamuremye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Edouard%20Singirankabo"> Edouard Singirankabo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Habineza"> Alexis Habineza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yunvirusaba%20Nelson"> Yunvirusaba Nelson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Temperature is one of the most important climatic factors for crop production. However, severe temperatures cause drought, feverish and cold spells that have various consequences for human life, agriculture, and the environment in general. It is necessary to provide reliable information related to the incidents and the probability of such extreme events occurring. In the 21st century, the world faces a huge number of threats, especially from climate change, due to global warming and environmental degradation. The rise in temperature has a direct effect on the decrease in rainfall. This has an impact on crop growth and development, which in turn decreases crop yield and quality. Countries that are heavily dependent on agriculture use to suffer a lot and need to take preventive steps to overcome these challenges. The main objective of this study is to model the statistical behaviour of extreme maximum temperature values in Rwanda. To achieve such an objective, the daily temperature data spanned the period from January 2000 to December 2017 recorded at nine weather stations collected from the Rwanda Meteorological Agency were used. The two methods, namely the block maxima (BM) method and the Peaks Over Threshold (POT), were applied to model and analyse extreme temperature. Model parameters were estimated, while the extreme temperature return periods and confidence intervals were predicted. The model fit suggests Gumbel and Beta distributions to be the most appropriate models for the annual maximum of daily temperature. The results show that the temperature will continue to increase, as shown by estimated return levels. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climate%20change" title="climate change">climate change</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=global%20warming" title=" global warming"> global warming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=extreme%20value%20theory" title=" extreme value theory"> extreme value theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rwanda" title=" rwanda"> rwanda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature" title=" temperature"> temperature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=generalised%20extreme%20value%20distribution" title=" generalised extreme value distribution"> generalised extreme value distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=generalised%20pareto%20distribution" title=" generalised pareto distribution"> generalised pareto distribution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/132786/statistical-modelling-of-maximum-temperature-in-rwanda-using-extreme-value-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/132786.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">183</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">35</span> The Relationship of Socioeconomic Status and Levels of Delinquency among Senior High School Students with Secured Attachment to Their Mothers</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aldrin%20Avergas">Aldrin Avergas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quennie%20Mariel%20Pe%C3%B1aranda"> Quennie Mariel Peñaranda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ni%C3%B1a%20Karen%20San%20Miguel"> Niña Karen San Miguel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Katrina%20Agustin"> Alexis Katrina Agustin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peralta%20Xusha%20Mae"> Peralta Xusha Mae</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Luisa%20Sison"> Maria Luisa Sison</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The research is entitled “The Relationship of Socioeconomic Status and Levels of Delinquency among Senior High School Students with Secured Attachment to their Mothers”. The researchers had explored the relationship between socioeconomic status and delinquent tendencies among grade 11 students. The objective of the research is to discover if delinquent behavior will have a relationship with the current socio-economic status of an adolescent student having a warm relationship with their mothers. The researchers utilized three questionnaires that would measure the three variables of the study, namely: (1) 1SEC 2012: The New Philippines Socioeconomic Classification System was used to show the current socioeconomic status of the respondents, (2) Self-Reported Delinquency – Problem Behavior Frequency Scale was utilized to determine the individual's frequency in engaging to delinquent behavior, and (3) Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment Revised (IPPA-R) was used to determine the attachment style of the respondents. The researchers utilized a quantitative research design, specifically correlation research. The study concluded that there is no significant relationship between socioeconomic status and academic delinquency despite the fact that these participants had secured attachment to their mother hence this research implies that delinquency is not just a problem for students belonging in the lower socio-economic status and that even having a warm and close relationship with their mothers is not sufficient enough for these students to completely be free from engaging in delinquent acts. There must be other factors (such as peer pressure, emotional quotient, self-esteem or etc.) that are might be contributing to delinquent behaviors. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adolescents" title="adolescents">adolescents</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=delinquency" title=" delinquency"> delinquency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20school%20students" title=" high school students"> high school students</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=secured%20attachment%20style" title=" secured attachment style"> secured attachment style</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=socioeconomic%20status" title=" socioeconomic status"> socioeconomic status</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104241/the-relationship-of-socioeconomic-status-and-levels-of-delinquency-among-senior-high-school-students-with-secured-attachment-to-their-mothers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104241.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">186</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">34</span> Paleogene Syn-Rift Play Identification in Palembang Sub-Basin, South Sumatera, Indonesia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Perdana%20Rakhmana%20Putra">Perdana Rakhmana Putra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hansen%20Wijaya"> Hansen Wijaya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sri%20Budiyani"> Sri Budiyani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhamad%20Natsir"> Muhamad Natsir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20badai%20Samudra"> Alexis badai Samudra</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Palembang Sub-Basin (PSB) located in southern part of South Sumatera basin (SSB) consist of half-graben complex trending N-S to NW-SE. In this context, the various motivations, interests, personalities and cultural exchanges, found in the ‘post-modern pilgrimage’, bequeath a hybrid and multidimensional character to religious tourism education. In consequence, churches have acquired the challenging role of enriching visitors cultural and spiritual capital. Despite this promising diversification to relate, reveal and provoke constructive discourses, due to the various ‘conflicting interests’, practitioners attempt to tame the rich in symbolism and meanings religious environment through ‘neutral interpretations’. This paper aims to present the results of an ongoing developing strategy related to the presentation of contentious meanings in English churches. The paper will explore some of the underlying issues related to the capacity of ‘neutrality’ to spark, downplay or eliminate contentious conversations relating to the cultural, religious, and social dimension of Christian cultural heritage thematology. In an effort to understand this issue, the paper examines the concept of neutrality and what it stands for, executing a discourse analysis in the semantic context in which the theological lexicon is interwoven with the cultural and social meanings of sacred sites. Following that, the paper examines whether the preferable interpretive strategies meet the post-modern interpretative framework which is marked by polysemy and critical active engagement. The ultimate aim of the paper is to investigate the hypothesis that the preferable neutral strategies, managing the ‘conflicting’ demands of worshippers and visitors, result in the uneven treatment of both, the religious and historical spirit of the place. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contentious%20dialogue" title="contentious dialogue">contentious dialogue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interpretation" title=" interpretation"> interpretation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=meaning%20making" title=" meaning making"> meaning making</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=religious%20tourism" title=" religious tourism"> religious tourism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96239/interpreting-ecclesiastical-heritage-meaning-making-and-contentious-conversations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96239.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">156</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> Building a Composite Approach to Employees' Motivational Needs by Combining Cognitive Needs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Akinyemi">Alexis Akinyemi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laurene%20Houtin"> Laurene Houtin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Measures of employee motivation at work are often based on the theory of self-determined motivation, which implies that human resources departments and managers seek to motivate employees in the most self-determined way possible and use strategies to achieve this goal. In practice, they often tend to assess employee motivation and then adapt management to the most important source of motivation for their employees, for example by financially rewarding an employee who is extrinsically motivated, and by rewarding an intrinsically motivated employee with congratulations and recognition. Thus, the use of motivation measures contradicts theoretical positioning: theory does not provide for the promotion of extrinsically motivated behaviour. In addition, a corpus of social psychology linked to fundamental needs makes it possible to personally address a person’s different sources of motivation (need for cognition, need for uniqueness, need for effects and need for closure). By developing a composite measure of motivation based on these needs, we provide human resources professionals, and in particular occupational psychologists, with a tool that complements the assessment of self-determined motivation, making it possible to precisely address the objective of adapting work not to the self-determination of behaviours, but to the motivational traits of employees. To develop such a model, we gathered the French versions of the cognitive needs scales (need for cognition, need for uniqueness, need for effects, need for closure) and conducted a study with 645 employees of several French companies. On the basis of the data collected, we conducted a confirmatory factor analysis to validate the model, studied the correlations between the various needs, and highlighted the different reference groups that could be used to use these needs as a basis for interviews with employees (career, recruitment, etc.). The results showed a coherent model and the expected links between the different needs. Taken together, these results make it possible to propose a valid and theoretically adjusted tool to managers who wish to adapt their management to their employees’ current motivations, whether or not these motivations are self-determined. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=motivation" title="motivation">motivation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=personality" title=" personality"> personality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=work%20commitment" title=" work commitment"> work commitment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20needs" title=" cognitive needs"> cognitive needs</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118177/building-a-composite-approach-to-employees-motivational-needs-by-combining-cognitive-needs" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118177.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">123</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Rethinking the Air Quality Health Index: Harmonizing Health Protection and Climate Mitigation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kimberly%20Tasha%20Jiayi%20Tang">Kimberly Tasha Jiayi Tang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Changqing%20Lin"> Changqing Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhe%20Wang"> Zhe Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tze-Wai%20Wong"> Tze-Wai Wong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Md.%20Shakhaoat%20Hossain"> Md. As an air pollution risk communication tool, it informs the public about the current air quality, anchoring around the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2005 Air Quality Guidelines (AQGs). Given the WHO's recent update in 2021, assessing how Hong Kong’s air quality risk communication can be en-hanced using these updated guidelines is essential. Hong Kong’s AQHI is lim-ited by solely focusing on short-term health risks, which could lead the public to underestimate cumulative health impacts. Therefore, we propose the intro-duction of a composite AQHI that reports both long-term and short-term health risks. Additionally, the WHO interim targets will be considered as anchor points for various health risk categories. Furthermore, with the increasing ozone levels in Hong Kong and Southern China due to improved NOx mitigation measures, it has been a challenging task in balancing health protection against climate mitigation. However, our findings present a promising outlook. Despite the rise in ozone levels, the combined health risks in Hong Kong and Guang-dong have seen a decline, largely due to reductions in NO2 and PM concentra-tions, both having significant health implications. By shifting from a concentra-tion-based approach to a health risk-based system like the AQHI, our study highlights the prospective of harmonizing health protection and climate mitiga-tion goals. This health-focused framework suggests that rigorous NOx controls can effective-ly serve both objectives in parallel. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20quality%20management" title="air quality management">air quality management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20quality%20health%20index" title=" air quality health index"> air quality health index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20risk%20management" title=" health risk management"> health risk management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20pollution" title=" air pollution"> air pollution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/176610/rethinking-the-air-quality-health-index-harmonizing-health-protection-and-climate-mitigation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/176610.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">72</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Modelling Dengue Disease With Climate Variables Using Geospatial Data For Mekong River Delta Region of Vietnam</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thi%20Thanh%20Nga%20Pham">Thi Thanh Nga Pham</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Damien%20Philippon"> Damien Philippon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Drogoul"> Alexis Drogoul</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thi%20Thu%20Thuy%20Nguyen"> Thi Thu Thuy Nguyen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tien%20Cong%20Nguyen"> Tien Cong Nguyen</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Mekong River Delta region of Vietnam is recognized as one of the most vulnerable to climate change due to flooding and seawater rise and therefore an increased burden of climate change-related diseases. Changes in temperature and precipitation are likely to alter the incidence and distribution of vector-borne diseases such as dengue fever. In this region, the peak of the dengue epidemic period is around July to September during the rainy season. It is believed that climate is an important factor for dengue transmission. This study aims to enhance the capacity of dengue prediction by the relationship of dengue incidences with climate and environmental variables for Mekong River Delta of Vietnam during 2005-2015. Mathematical models for vector-host infectious disease, including larva, mosquito, and human being were used to calculate the impacts of climate to the dengue transmission with incorporating geospatial data for model input. Monthly dengue incidence data were collected at provincial level. Precipitation data were extracted from satellite observations of GSMaP (Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation), land surface temperature and land cover data were from MODIS. The value of seasonal reproduction number was estimated to evaluate the potential, severity and persistence of dengue infection, while the final infected number was derived to check the outbreak of dengue. The result shows that the dengue infection depends on the seasonal variation of climate variables with the peak during the rainy season and predicted dengue incidence follows well with this dynamic for the whole studied region. However, the highest outbreak of 2007 dengue was not captured by the model reflecting nonlinear dependences of transmission on climate. Other possible effects will be discussed to address the limitation of the model. This suggested the need of considering of both climate variables and another variability across temporal and spatial scales. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=infectious%20disease" title="infectious disease">infectious disease</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dengue" title=" dengue"> dengue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geospatial%20data" title=" geospatial data"> geospatial data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climate" title=" climate"> climate</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61741/modelling-dengue-disease-with-climate-variables-using-geospatial-data-for-mekong-river-delta-region-of-vietnam" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61741.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">383</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> Multifunctionality of Cover Crops in South Texas: Looking at Multiple Benefits of Cover Cropping on Small Farms in a Subtropical Climate </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Savannah%20Rugg">Savannah Rugg</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carlo%20Moreno"> Carlo Moreno</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pushpa%20Soti"> Pushpa Soti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Racelis"> Alexis Racelis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Situated in deep South Texas, the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) is considered one the most productive agricultural regions in the southern US. With the highest concentration of organic farms in the state (Hidalgo county), the LRGV has a strong potential to be leaders in sustainable agriculture. Finding management practices that comply with organic certification and increase the health of the agroecosytem and the farmers working the land is increasingly pertinent. Cover cropping, or the intentional planting of non-cash crop vegetation, can serve multiple functions in an agroecosystem by decreasing environmental pollutants that originate from the agroecosystem, reducing inputs needed for crop production, and potentially decreasing on-farm costs for farmers—overall increasing the sustainability of the farm. Use of cover crops on otherwise fallow lands have shown to enhance ecosystem services such as: attracting native beneficial insects (pollinators), increase nutrient availability in topsoil, prevent nutrient leaching, increase soil organic matter, and reduces soil erosion. In this study, four cover crops (Lablab, Sudan Grass, Sunn Hemp, and Pearl Millet) were analyzed in the subtropical region of south Texas to see how their multiple functions enhance ecosystem services. The four cover crops were assessed to see their potential to harbor native insects, their potential to increase soil nitrogen, to increase soil organic matter, and to suppress weeds. The preliminary results suggest that these subtropical varieties of cover crops have potential to enhance ecosystem services on agricultural land in the RGV by increasing soil organic matter (in all varieties), increasing nitrogen in topsoil (Lablab, Sunn Hemp), and reducing weeds (Sudan Grass). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cover%20crops" title="cover crops">cover crops</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ecosystem%20services" title=" ecosystem services"> ecosystem services</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=subtropical%20agriculture" title=" subtropical agriculture"> subtropical agriculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20agriculture" title=" sustainable agriculture"> sustainable agriculture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47258/multifunctionality-of-cover-crops-in-south-texas-looking-at-multiple-benefits-of-cover-cropping-on-small-farms-in-a-subtropical-climate" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47258.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">296</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> Using Biofunctool® Index to Assess Soil Quality after Eight Years of Conservation Agriculture in New Caledonia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Remy%20Kulagowski">Remy Kulagowski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tobias%20Sturm"> Tobias Sturm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Audrey%20Leopold"> Audrey Leopold</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aurelie%20Metay"> Aurelie Metay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Josephine%20Peigne"> Josephine Peigne</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexis%20Thoumazeau"> Alexis Thoumazeau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alain%20Brauman"> Alain Brauman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bruno%20Fogliani"> Bruno Fogliani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Florent%20Tivet"> Florent Tivet</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A major challenge for agriculture is to enhance productivity while limiting the impact on the environment. Conservation agriculture (CA) is one strategy whereby both sustainability and productivity can be achieved by preserving and improving the soil quality. Soils provide and regulate a large number of ecosystem services (ES) such as agricultural productivity and climate change adaptation and mitigation. The aim of this study is to assess the impacts of contrasted CA crop management on soil functions for maize (Zea mays L.) cultivation in an eight years field experiment (2010-2018). The study included two CA practices: direct seeding in dead mulch (DM) and living mulch (LM), and conventional plough-based tillage (CT) practices on a fluvisol in New Caledonia (French Archipelago in the South Pacific). In 2018, soil quality of the cropping systems were evaluated with the Biofunctool® set of indicators, that consists in twelve integrative, in-field, and low-tech indicators assessing the biological, physical and chemical properties of soils. Main soil functions were evaluated including (i) carbon transformation, (ii) structure maintenance, and (iii) nutrient cycling in the ten first soil centimeters. The results showed significant higher score for soil structure maintenance (e.g., aggregate stability, water infiltration) and carbon transformation function (e.g., soil respiration, labile carbon) under CA in DM and LM when compared with CT. Score of carbon transformation index was higher in DM compared with LM. However, no significant effect of cropping systems was observed on nutrient cycling (i.e., nitrogen and phosphorus). In conclusion, the aggregated synthetic scores of soil multi-functions evaluated with Biofunctool® demonstrate that CA cropping systems lead to a better soil functioning. Further analysis of the results with agronomic performance of the soil-crop systems would allow to better understand the links between soil functioning and production ES of CA. <p
