antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;">The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the world's fastest-growing technologies and a key element of <strong>Industry 4.0</strong>. Industry 4.0 is transforming the future of <i>smart building architectures</i> by deploying cutting-edge technology such as intelligence to achieve new automated interactions that significantly optimize its functions and performance levels. The advent of smart devices, connected to the worldwide web, has enabled the development of <i>smart facilities </i>and <i>building automation</i>, emerging as one of the major applications in the industry. <strong>Smart infrastructure</strong> is the key to the decarbonization of the <i>energy sector</i>, which will be essential for meeting climate goals in the twenty-first century. This is a tremendous step towards ideal <strong>sustainable development</strong>.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;">The manufacturing industry is moving to the smart Industry to achieve flexible mass production, low cost, and <strong>energy efficiency</strong>—the importance of <strong>Machine Learning (ML)</strong>-driven smart facilities and constructions in an <i>industrialized market</i>. As the <strong>smart manufacturing</strong> revolution takes over, the demand for <i>smart environments</i> and smart installations is growing rapidly.  At the same time, hardware devices with limited connectivity and computational power are becoming more common in both indoor and outdoor environments. Traditional computing resources are too expensive or complex to solve problems that <strong>Artificial Intelligence</strong> (<strong>AI</strong>)-driven smart building infrastructure can solve. The combined implementation of smart technologies and AI is expected to help solve issues related to <strong>environmental pollution</strong>, <strong>energy shortage</strong>, increasing <strong>rate of unemployment</strong>, etc. This aids in reducing term costs, enhancing asset reliability and security, and the efficient management of all building operations.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;">This special issue addresses the possible outcomes and challenges in <strong>AI-driven Smart Infrastructures</strong> and <strong>Smart Buildings</strong> for <i>Industry 4.0 Applications</i>. Recent advances in AI-driven smart infrastructures and building automation are fast enablers for the fourth industrial revolution 4.0. The emergence of Industrial revolution 4.0, the Internet of Things, and <strong>cyber-physical systems</strong> has ushered in a new era in which <i>intelligence-driven smart environments</i> and installations are becoming an essential component to deliver real-time data to end-users. Rapidly growing data and information volumes, the emergence of <i>advanced technologies</i>, and the connection of almost everything to the Internet are advancing smart manufacturing. The most recent advancements in the application of AI in developing <i>smart homes</i> and <i>systems</i> focus on establishment structure illustration, control, and further development of energy-efficient designs and sensible metropolitan networks. The future infrastructures and smart buildings are essential parts of smart factories’ applications and sustainable development. The future development of smart residences and smart cities requires complete infrastructures and harnessing <i>advanced technologies</i>. These innovations take advantage of the potential and viability of an intelligent factory's smart-house automation target. <strong>Advances in intelligence</strong> are allowing smart house technology to evolve and reach the next stage of its development. It is widely accepted that these technologies can enable the <strong>digitization of the physical world</strong>, <strong>smart decision-making</strong>, and help build an <strong>intelligent infrastructure</strong>.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 12pt;
