his heart<MH3824> and the hearts<MH3824> of his people<MH5971a> shook<MH5128> as the trees<MH6086> of the forest<MH3293a> shake<MH5128> from the wind<MH7307>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Isaiah<MH3470b>, &#8220;Go<MH3318> out<MH3318> now<MH4994> to meet<MH7122> Ahaz<MH271>, you and your son<MH1121> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Shear-jashub<MH7610>, at the end<MH7097a> of the conduit<MH8585a> of the upper<MH5945a> pool<MH1295>, on the road<MH4546> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>fuller&#8217;s<MH3526> field<MH7704>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>and say<MH559> to him, &#8216;Take<MH8104> care<MH8104> and be<MH8252> calm<MH8252>, have<MH3372a> no<MH408> fear<MH3372a> and do not be fainthearted<MH7401, 3824> because<MH4480> of these<MH428> two<MH8147> stumps<MH2180> of smoldering<MH6226> logs<MH181>, on account of the fierce<MH2750> anger<MH639> of Rezin<MH7526> and Aram<MH758> and the son<MH1121> of Remaliah<MH7425>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Because<MH3282, 3588> Aram<MH758>, <i>with</i> Ephraim<MH669> and the son<MH1121> of Remaliah<MH7425>, has planned<MH3289> evil<MH7463a> against<MH5921> you, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>&#8220;Let&#8217;s go<MH5927> up<MH5927> against Judah<MH3063> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>terrorize<MH6973> it, and take<MH1234> it for ourselves by<MH1234> assault<MH1234> and set<MH4427a> up<MH4427a> the son<MH1121> of Tabeel<MH2870a> as king<MH4428> in the midst<MH8432> of it,&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: &#8220;It shall not stand<MH6965> nor<MH3808> shall it come<MH1961> to<MH1961> pass<MH1961>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For the head<MH7218> of Aram<MH758> is Damascus<MH1834>, and the head<MH7218> of Damascus<MH1834> is Rezin<MH7526> (now within another<MH5750> sixty-five<MH8346, 2568> years<MH8141> Ephraim<MH669> will be<MH2865> broken<MH2865> to<MH2865> pieces<MH2865>, <i>so that it is</i> no<MH4480> longer a people<MH5971a>), <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>and the head<MH7218> of Ephraim<MH669> is Samaria<MH8111>, and the head<MH7218> of Samaria<MH8111> is the son<MH1121> of Remaliah<MH7425>. If<MH518> you will not believe<MH539>, you certainly<MH3588> shall not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>last<MH539>.&#8221;&#8217;&#8221; <p class="hdg">The Child Immanuel</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> again<MH3254> to Ahaz<MH271>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>&#8220;Ask<MH7592> for a sign<MH226> for yourself from the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>make<MH6009> <i>it</i> deep<MH6009> as Sheol<MH7585> or<MH176> high<MH1361b> as <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>heaven<MH4605>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>But Ahaz<MH271> said<MH559>, &#8220;I will not ask<MH7592>, nor<MH3808> will I put<MH5254> the LORD<MH3068> to<MH5254> the<MH5254> test<MH5254>!&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559>, &#8220;Listen<MH8085> now<MH4994>, house<MH1004> of David<MH1732>! Is it too<MH4480> trivial<MH4592> a thing<MH4592> for you to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>try<MH3811> the<MH3811> patience<MH3811> of men<MH376>, that you will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>try<MH3811> the<MH3811> patience<MH3811> of my God<MH430> as<MH1571> well<MH1571>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651> the Lord<MH136> Himself<MH1931> will give<MH5414> you a sign<MH226>: Behold<MH2009>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>virgin<MH5959> will conceive<MH2030> and give<MH3205> birth<MH3205> to a son<MH1121>, and she will name<MH7121, 8034> Him <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>Immanuel<MH6005>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>He will eat<MH398> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>curds<MH2529> and honey<MH1706> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>at the time He knows<MH3045> <i>enough</i> to refuse<MH3988a> evil<MH7451b> and choose<MH977> good<MH2896b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>For before<MH2962> the boy<MH5288> knows<MH3045> <i>enough</i> to refuse<MH3988a> evil<MH7451b> and choose<MH977> good<MH2896b>, the land<MH127> whose<MH834> two<MH8147> kings<MH4428> you dread<MH6973> will be abandoned<MH5800a>. <p class="hdg">Trials to Come for Judah</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> will bring<MH935> on you, on your people<MH5971a>, and on your father&#8217;s<MH1> house<MH1004> such<MH834> days<MH3117> as have not come<MH935> since<MH4480> the day<MH3117> that Ephraim<MH669> separated<MH5493> from Judah<MH3063>&#8212;<i>the days of</i> the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>On that day<MH3117> the LORD<MH3068> will whistle<MH8319> for the fly<MH2070> that is in the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>remotest<MH7097a> part<MH7097a> of the canals<MH2975> of Egypt<MH4714> and for the bee<MH1682> that is in the land<MH776> of Assyria<MH804b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>They will all<MH3605> come<MH935> and settle<MH5117> on the steep<MH1327> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>ravines<MH5158a>, on the ledges<MH5357> of the cliffs<MH5553>, on all<MH3605> the thorn<MH5285> bushes<MH5285>, and on all<MH3605> the watering<MH5097> places<MH5097>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>On that day<MH3117> the Lord<MH136> will shave<MH1548> with a razor<MH8593>, hired<MH7917a> from regions<MH5676> beyond<MH5676> the <i>Euphrates</i> River<MH5104> (<i>that is,</i> with the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b>), the head<MH7218> and the hair<MH8181> of the legs<MH7272>; and it will also<MH1571> remove<MH5595> the beard<MH2206>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Now on that day<MH3117> a person<MH376> may keep<MH2421a> alive<MH2421a> <i>only</i> a heifer<MH5697, 1241> and a pair<MH8147> of sheep<MH6629>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>and because<MH4480> of the abundance<MH7230> of the milk<MH2461> produced<MH6213a> he will eat<MH398> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>curds<MH2529>, for everyone<MH3605> who is left<MH3498> within<MH7130> the land<MH776> will eat<MH398> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>curds<MH2529> and honey<MH1706>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And it will come<MH1961> about<MH1961> on that day<MH3117>, that every<MH3605> place<MH4725> where<MH834, 8033> there used to be a thousand<MH505> vines<MH1612>, <i>valued</i> at a thousand<MH505> <i>shekels</i> of silver<MH3701>, will become<MH1961> briars<MH8068> and thorns<MH7898>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span><i>People</i> will come<MH935> there<MH8033> with bows<MH7198> and arrows<MH2671>, because<MH3588> all<MH3605> the land<MH776> will be briars<MH8068> and thorns<MH7898>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/7-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>As for all<MH3605> the hills<MH2022> which<MH834> used to be cultivated<MH5737b> with the plow<MH4576>, you will not go<MH935> there<MH8033> for fear<MH3374> of briars<MH8068> and thorns<MH7898>;
