One way to do this is to get in touch with your early career scientists representative, or better yet, volunteering to get involved in your division/programme group. </p> <div class="headline"> <h2>Union-level ECS representative</h2> </div> <p class="mb-4"> While the division ECS representatives gather feedback from early career researchers in their fields, the Union-level ECS representative gathers information from each of the division representatives and presents it to the EGU’s Programme Committee and Council, ensuring the needs of early career researchers in the Earth planetary and space sciences are met at the General Assembly, and throughout the year. The Union-level ECS representative is a voting member of the EGU Council and is elected by the members during the <a href="/elections/">EGU Elections</a>. </p> <h3>Daniel L. He leads both fundamental and applied research, principally focusing on soil formation, and the parent materials from which soil is formed. His research programme comprises three core components. These include: (1) investigating the interactions that take place between soils and soil parent materials; (2) exploring the threats of local perturbations to the stock, health, and functioning of soil parent materials, and the ways of protecting these to safeguard future soil formation; and (3) identifying smart, efficient, and innovative techniques to accelerate rates of soil formation, including the use of bioengineering. His previous research includes the first use of cosmogenic radionuclides to measure soil formation rates on arable soils, and one of the largest global analyses to amass soil formation and erosion data in order to assess soil sustainability. Her <span class="caps">MSCA</span> project – <span class="caps">SHEAR</span> (the role of Stress History on the <span class="caps">EAR</span>thquake potential of faults) – aims to investigate the role of stress field evolution on the earthquake potential of faults.</p> <p>Carolina completed her PhD in Structural Geology and Rock Mechanics at Sapienza University of Rome in 2018. Then, she moved in the Laboratory of Rock Mechanics at <span class="caps">EPFL</span> in Lausanne, Switzerland, for a 4-years-long PostDoc. Her research focuses on investigating the features of heavy ion acceleration processes in the magnetospheres of Earth and Jupiter, using data from the Van Allen Probes and Juno space missions, respectively. In the course of her diploma thesis for her master’s degree, she has also studied the role of oxygen ions in the terrestrial ring current dynamics. She currently coordinates an interdisciplinary project on the interaction between climate change and agriculture. Her research background is in greenhouse gas dynamics, with a focus on methane. She has done her PhD at the marine science institute <span class="caps">NIOZ</span> (NL) and worked at the Biogeochemistry department of Eawag (CH) for her first postdoc. She study ionospheric dynamics and the atmosphere-ionosphere coupling using the propagation of radio waves. She also study the observed ionospheric effects associated to phenomena from terrestrial and extraterrestrial origin.</p> <p>As an <span class="caps">ECS</span> representative, and together with the ST <span class="caps">ECS</span> team, she aim to serve the ST <span class="caps">ECS</span> community by enhancing the interaction at the division level, organising actives about well-being and career, as well as to increase the networking opportunities. Her research looks into the late Quaternary evolution of the atolls of the Lakshadweep Archipelago, India. As an <span class="caps">ECS</span> Representative, she aims to inspire other early career scientists in the division to explore unique opportunities in research.
