In the experimental programme, particular emphasis was given to the effect of horizontal reinforcement (in format of inverted U-shape bars) on the shear strength and ductility capacity of knee joints. Test results are compared with those predicted by four seismic design codes, including ACI 318-14, EC8, NZS3101 and GB50010. It is seen that the current design codes of practice cannot accurately predict the shear strength of seismically designed knee joints. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=large-scale%20tests" title="large-scale tests">large-scale tests</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RC%20beam-column%20knee%20joints" title=" RC beam-column knee joints"> RC beam-column knee joints</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seismic%20performance" title=" seismic performance"> seismic performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20strength" title=" shear strength"> shear strength</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59153/effect-of-horizontal-joint-reinforcement-on-shear-behaviour-of-rc-knee-connections" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59153.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">249</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">53</span> Annular Hyperbolic Profile Fins with Variable Thermal Conductivity Using Laplace Adomian Transform and Double Decomposition Methods</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yinwei%20Lin">Yinwei Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cha%27o-Kuang%20Chen"> Cha'o-Kuang Chen</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this article, the Laplace Adomian transform method (LADM) and double decomposition method (DDM) are used to solve the annular hyperbolic profile fins with variable thermal conductivity. One of the ways which many companies have adopted is to spur innovations within the various team-based units in the organization. It would be relevant and important to ensure our graduates are ready to excel in such evolving conditions within their professional eco-systems. However, it is not easy to understand the interplays of nurturing team innovation and improving students’ learning, in the context of engineering education. In this study, we seek to understand team innovation and explore ways to improve students’ performance and learning, via motivation and mentorship. Learning goals from a group of students are collected during a carefully designed two-week long summer programme to provide insights on the main themes, within the context of learning and working in a team. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=team%20innovation" title="team innovation">team innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mentorship" title=" mentorship"> mentorship</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=motivation" title=" motivation"> motivation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=learning" title=" learning"> learning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60354/understanding-innovation-mentorship-and-motivation-in-teams-a-design-centric-approach-for-undergraduates" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60354.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">282</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">51</span> Nonlinear Modeling of the PEMFC Based on NNARX Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shan-Jen%20Cheng">Shan-Jen Cheng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Te-Jen%20Chang"> Te-Jen Chang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuang-Hsiung%20Tan">Kuang-Hsiung Tan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shou-Ling%20Kuo">Shou-Ling Kuo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is such a time-vary nonlinear dynamic system. The traditional linear modeling approach is hard to estimate structure correctly of PEMFC system. The multilayer perception (MLP) network is applied to evaluate the structure of the NNARX model of PEMFC. The validity and accuracy of NNARX model are tested by one step ahead relating output voltage to input current from measured experimental of PEMFC. Firstly, the dynamics of a PMSM was proved to be strictly passive. The position controller with an adaptive law was used to estimate the load torque to eliminate the chattering effects associated with the conventional sliding mode controller. The stability analysis of the overall position control system was carried out by adopting the passivity theorem instead of Lyapunov-type arguments. Finally, experimental results were provided to show that the good position tracking can be obtained, and exhibit robustness in the variations of the motor parameters and load torque disturbances. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adaptive%20law" title="adaptive law">adaptive law</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=passivity%20theorem" title=" passivity theorem"> passivity theorem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=permanent%20magnet%20synchronous%20motor" title=" permanent magnet synchronous motor"> permanent magnet synchronous motor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sliding%20mode%20control" title=" sliding mode control"> sliding mode control</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10734/sliding-mode-position-control-for-permanent-magnet-synchronous-motors-based-on-passivity-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10734.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">468</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">49</span> Natural Convection in Wavy-Wall Cavities Filled with Power-Law Fluid</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cha%E2%80%99o-Kuang%20Chen">Cha’o-Kuang Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ching-Chang%20Cho"> Ching-Chang Cho</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper investigates the natural convection heat transfer performance in a complex-wavy-wall cavity filled with power-law fluid. The simulations focus specifically on the effects of the flow behavior index in the power-law model and the Rayleigh number on the flow streamlines, isothermal contours and mean Nusselt number within the cavity. The results show that pseudoplastic fluids have a better heat transfer performance than Newtonian or dilatant fluids. A nonlinear tire model is employed to represent the realistic behavior of a vehicle. In general, all the state variables of control systems are not precisedly known, because those variables are observed through output sensors and limited parts of them might be only measurable. Hence, automatic control systems must incorporate some type of state estimation. It is needed to establish a state estimation method for nonlinear vehicle dynamics with restricted measurable state variables. The increase in the glandular density increases the risk of breast cancer. BI-RADS is a frequently used density indicator in mammography; however, it significantly overestimates the glandularity. Therefore, it is very important to accurately and quantitatively assess the glandularity by mammography. In this study, 20%, 30% and 50% glandularity phantoms were exposed using a mammography machine at 28, 30 and 31 kVp, and 30, 55, 80 and 105 mAs, respectively. The regions of interest (ROIs) were drawn to assess the gray level. The relationship between the glandularity and gray level under various compression thicknesses, kVp, and mAs was established by the multivariable linear regression. A phantom verification was performed with automatic exposure control (AEC). The regression equation was obtained with an R-square value of 0.928. The average gray levels of the verification phantom were 8708, 8660 and 8434 for 0.952, 0.963 and 0.985 g/cm3, respectively. The percent differences of glandularity to the regression equation were 3.24%, 2.75% and 13.7%. We concluded that the proposed method could be clinically applied in mammography to improve the glandularity estimation and further increase the importance of breast cancer screening. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mammography" title="mammography">mammography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=glandularity" title=" glandularity"> glandularity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gray%20value" title=" gray value"> gray value</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BI-RADS" title=" BI-RADS"> BI-RADS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60797/assessing-relationships-between-glandularity-and-gray-level-by-using-breast-phantoms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60797.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">493</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> Research on Knowledge Graph Inference Technology Based on Proximal Policy Optimization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yihao%20Kuang">Yihao Kuang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bowen%20Ding"> Bowen Ding</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> With the increasing scale and complexity of knowledge graph, modern knowledge graph contains more and more types of entity, relationship, and attribute information. Mesh compression and expansion as well as overset mesh techniques are employed to simulate the moving parts of the engine. Shear-Stress Transport (SST) k-ω turbulence model has been adopted because the model is not prone to generate excessive turbulence upon impingement regions. Hence, wall heat transfer rates at the hot and cold ends will not be overestimated. The effects of several different displacer-cylinder-wall temperature setups, including smooth and finned walls, on engine performance are investigated. The results include temperature contours, pressure versus volume diagrams, and variations of heat transfer rates, indicated power, and efficiency. It is found that displacer-wall heat transfer is one of the most important factors on engine performance, and some wall-temperature setups produce better results than others. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CFD" title="CFD">CFD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finned%20wall" title=" finned wall"> finned wall</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MTD%20Stirling%20engine" title=" MTD Stirling engine"> MTD Stirling engine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20transfer" title=" heat transfer"> heat transfer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66213/the-effects-of-displacer-cylinder-wall-conditions-on-the-performance-of-a-medium-temperature-differential-gh-type-stirling-engine" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66213.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">377</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">41</span> The Role of Initiator in the Synthesis of Poly(Methyl Methacrylate)-Layered Silicate Nanocomposites through Bulk Polymerization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tsung-Yen%20Tsai">Tsung-Yen Tsai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naveen%20Bunekar"> Naveen Bunekar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ming%20Hsuan%20Chang"> Ming Hsuan Chang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wen-Kuang%20Wang"> Wen-Kuang Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Satoshi%20Onda"> Satoshi Onda</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The structure-property relationship and initiator effect on bulk polymerized poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)–oragnomodified layered silicate nanocomposites was investigated. The bulk polymerized nanocomposites’ morphology was investigated by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The type of initiator strongly influences the physiochemical properties of the polymer nanocomposite. The thermal degradation of PMMA in the presence of nanofiller was studied. 5 wt% weight loss temperature (T5d) increased as compared to pure PMMA. The peak degradation temperature increased for the nanocomposites. Differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis were performed to investigate the glass transition temperature and the nature of the constrained region as the reinforcement mechanism respectively. Compared with traditional white light endoscopy (WLE), this technology greatly improves the detection accuracy of early carcinogenesis, because the colors of normal tissues are different from cancerous tissues. Thus, edge detection can distinguish them in grayscale images. In this paper, based on the traditional Sobel edge detection method, optimization has been performed on this method which considers the environment of the gastrointestinal, including adaptive threshold and morphological processing. All of the processes are implemented on our self-designed system based on the image sensor OV6930 and Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), The system can capture the gastrointestinal image taken by the lens in real time and detect edges. From the performance on downstream tasks, we can know that the text representation constructed by these models contains linguistic information, but its encoding mode and extent are unclear. In this work, a structural probe is proposed to detect whether the vector representation produced by a deep neural network is embedded with a syntax tree. The probe is trained with the deep metric learning method, so that the distance between word vectors in the metric space it defines encodes the distance of words on the syntax tree, and the norm of word vectors encodes the depth of words on the syntax tree. The experiment results on ELMo and BERT show that the syntax tree is encoded in their parameters and the word representations they produce. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20metric%20learning" title="deep metric learning">deep metric learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=syntax%20tree%20probing" title=" syntax tree probing"> syntax tree probing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20language%20processing" title=" natural language processing"> natural language processing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=word%20representations" title=" word representations"> word representations</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/173855/probing-syntax-information-in-word-representations-with-deep-metric-learning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/173855.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">68</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">38</span> A Quick Prediction for Shear Behaviour of RC Membrane Elements by Fixed-Angle Softened Truss Model with Tension-Stiffening</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=X.%20Wang">X. Nevertheless, massive computational work is inevitable due to the multiple transcendental equations involved in the stress-strain relationship. In this paper, an iterative root-finding technique is introduced to FASTMT for solving quickly the transcendental equations of the tension-stiffening effect of RC membrane elements. This fast FASTMT, which performs in MATLAB, uses the bisection method to calculate the tensile stress of the membranes. By adopting the simplification, the elapsed time of each loop is reduced significantly and the transcendental equations can be solved accurately. Owing to the high efficiency and good accuracy as compared with FASTMT, the fast FASTMT can be further applied in quick prediction of shear behaviour of complex large-scale RC structures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bisection%20method" title="bisection method">bisection method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FASTMT" title=" FASTMT"> FASTMT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=iterative%20root-finding%20technique" title=" iterative root-finding technique"> iterative root-finding technique</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reinforced%20concrete%20membrane" title=" reinforced concrete membrane"> reinforced concrete membrane</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71255/a-quick-prediction-for-shear-behaviour-of-rc-membrane-elements-by-fixed-angle-softened-truss-model-with-tension-stiffening" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71255.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">273</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">37</span> Using Simulation Modeling Approach to Predict USMLE Steps 1 and 2 Performances</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chau-Kuang%20Chen">Chau-Kuang Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Hughes"> John Hughes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jr."> Jr.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Dexter%20Samuels"> A. Hence, institutions could screen qualified student applicants for interviews and document the effectiveness of basic science education program based on the simulation results. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=prediction%20model" title="prediction model">prediction model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensitivity%20analysis" title=" sensitivity analysis"> sensitivity analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation%20method" title=" simulation method"> simulation method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=USMLE" title=" USMLE"> USMLE</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54294/using-simulation-modeling-approach-to-predict-usmle-steps-1-and-2-performances" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54294.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">340</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">36</span> Design of a Low Cost Programmable LED Lighting System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Abeysekera">S. The main challenge in the design of smart lighting systems is to produce sufficient luminous flux and uniformly accurate output spectrum for sufficiently broad area. This paper outlines the programmable LED lighting system design principles of design to achieve the two aims. In this paper, a seven-channel design using low-cost discrete LEDs is presented. Optimization algorithms are used to calculate the number of required LEDs, LEDs arrangements and optimum LED separation distance. The results show the illumination uniformity for each channel. The results also show that the maximum color error is below 0.0808 on the CIE1976 chromaticity scale. In conclusion, this paper considered the simulation and design of a seven-channel programmable lighting system using low-cost discrete LEDs to produce sufficient luminous flux and uniformly accurate output spectrum for sufficiently broad area. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=light%20spectrum%20control" title="light spectrum control">light spectrum control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LEDs" title=" LEDs"> LEDs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smart%20lighting" title=" smart lighting"> smart lighting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=programmable%20LED%20lighting%20system" title=" programmable LED lighting system"> programmable LED lighting system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78099/design-of-a-low-cost-programmable-led-lighting-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78099.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">187</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">35</span> CFD-DEM Modelling and Analysis of the Continuous Separation of Sized Particles Using Inertial Microfluidics</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hui%20Zhu">Hui Zhu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuan%20Wang"> Yuan Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shibo%20Kuang"> Shibo Kuang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aibing%20Yu"> Aibing Yu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The inertial difference induced by the microfluidics inside a curved micro-channel has great potential to provide a fast, inexpensive, and portable solution to the separation of micro- and sub-micro particles in many applications such as aerosol collections, airborne bacteria and virus detections, as well as particle sortation. In this work, the separation behaviors of different sized particles inside a reported curved micro-channel have been studied by a combined approach of computational fluid dynamics for gas and discrete element model for particles (CFD-DEM). The micro-channel is operated by controlling the gas flow rates at all of its branches respectively used to load particles, introduce gas streams, collect particles of various sizes. The validity of the model has been examined by comparing by the calculated separation efficiency of different sized particles against the measurement. On this basis, the separation mechanisms of the inertial microfluidic separator are elucidated in terms of the interactions between particles, between particle and fluid, and between particle and wall. The model is then used to study the effect of feed solids concentration on the separation accuracy and efficiency. The results obtained from the present study demonstrate that the CFD-DEM approach can provide a convenient way to study the particle separation behaviors in micro-channels of various types. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CFD-DEM" title="CFD-DEM">CFD-DEM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inertial%20effect" title=" inertial effect"> inertial effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microchannel" title=" microchannel"> microchannel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=separation" title=" separation"> separation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57240/cfd-dem-modelling-and-analysis-of-the-continuous-separation-of-sized-particles-using-inertial-microfluidics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57240.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">292</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">34</span> An Extended Basic Period and Power-of-Two Policy for Economic Lot-Size Batch-Shipment Scheduling Problem</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wen-Tsung%20Ho">Wen-Tsung Ho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ku-Kuang%20Chang"> Ku-Kuang Chang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hsin-Yuan%20Chang"> Hsin-Yuan Chang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, we consider an economic lot-size batch-shipment scheduling problem (ELBSP) with extended basic period (EBP) and power-of-two (PoT) policies. In this problem, the supplier using a single facility to manufacture multiple products and equally sized batches are then delivered by the supplier to buyers over an infinite planning horizon. Further, the extended basic period (EBP) and power-of-two (PoT) policy are utilized. Relaxing the production schedule converts the ELBSP to an economic lot-size batch-shipment problem (ELBP) with EBP and PoT policies, and a nonlinear integer programming model of the ELBP is constructed. Using the replenishment cycle division and recursive tightening methods, optimal solutions are then solved separately for each product. The sum of these optimal solutions is the lower bound of the ELBSP. A proposed heuristic method with polynomial complexity is then applied to figure out the near-optimal solutions of the ELBSP. Numerical example is presented to confirm the efficacy of the proposed method. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic%20lot-size%20scheduling%20problem" title="economic lot-size scheduling problem">economic lot-size scheduling problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=extended%20basic%20period" title=" extended basic period"> extended basic period</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=replenishment%20cycle%20division" title=" replenishment cycle division"> replenishment cycle division</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recursive%20tightening" title=" recursive tightening"> recursive tightening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power-of-two" title=" power-of-two"> power-of-two</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69870/an-extended-basic-period-and-power-of-two-policy-for-economic-lot-size-batch-shipment-scheduling-problem" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69870.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">338</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">33</span> Active Islanding Detection Method Using Intelligent Controller</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuang-Hsiung%20Tan">Kuang-Hsiung Tan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chih-Chan%20Hu"> Chih-Chan Hu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chien-Wu%20Lan"> Chien-Wu Lan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shih-Sung%20Lin"> Shih-Sung Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Te-Jen%20Chang"> Te-Jen Chang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An active islanding detection method using disturbance signal injection with intelligent controller is proposed in this study. First, a DC\AC power inverter is emulated in the distributed generator (DG) system to implement the tracking control of active power, reactive power outputs and the islanding detection. The proposed active islanding detection method is based on injecting a disturbance signal into the power inverter system through the <em>d</em>-axis current which leads to a frequency deviation at the terminal of the <em>RLC</em> load when the utility power is disconnected. Moreover, in order to improve the transient and steady-state responses of the active power and reactive power outputs of the power inverter, and to further improve the performance of the islanding detection method, two probabilistic fuzzy neural networks (PFNN) are adopted to replace the traditional proportional-integral (PI) controllers for the tracking control and the islanding detection. Furthermore, the network structure and the online learning algorithm of the PFNN are introduced in detail. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the tracking control and the proposed active islanding detection method are verified with experimental results. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20generators" title="distributed generators">distributed generators</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=probabilistic%20fuzzy%20neural%20network" title=" probabilistic fuzzy neural network"> probabilistic fuzzy neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=islanding%20detection" title=" islanding detection"> islanding detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-detection%20zone" title=" non-detection zone"> non-detection zone</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39253/active-islanding-detection-method-using-intelligent-controller" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39253.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">389</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> Interdialytic Acupuncture Is an Add-on Option for Preserving Residual Renal Function: A Case Series Report</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lai%20Tzu-Hsuan">Lai Tzu-Hsuan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lai%20Jung-Nien"> Lai Jung-Nien</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lin%20Jaung-Geng"> Lin Jaung-Geng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kao%20Shung-Te"> Kao Shung-Te</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hsuan-Kuang%20Jung"> Hsuan-Kuang Jung</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Whether acupuncture therapy contributes to preserving residual renal function (RRF) remains largely unknown. This case series evidenced the potential beneficial effects of acupuncture for preserving RRF in five patients with the end-stage renal disease under hemodialysis (HD) treatment. Participants: Five patients on HD receiving eight sessions of weekly 30-min interdialytic acupuncture (Inter-A) with residual urine volume (rUV) and residual glomerular filtration rate (rGFR) recorded once every two weeks were included for analysis. Outcomes: Changes in rUV and rGFR calculated using 24-hour urine collection data were analyzed to assess RRF. Variations in hemoglobin, urea Kt/V and serum albumin levels measured monthly were analyzed to evaluate HD adequacy. Results: After eight Inter-A sessions, mean (standard deviation (SD)) rUV and rGFR increased from 612 (184) ml/day and 1.48 (.94) ml/min/1.73 m2 at baseline to 803(289) ml/day and 2.04(1.17) ml/min/1.73m2 at 2- and 4-week follow-up, respectively. The mean percentage difference increased by 31% in rUV and 38% in rGFR. Routine measurements on HD adequacy also showed improvement. Conclusions: Acupuncture might be an optional add-on treatment for HD population with poor control of water; however, further well-designed controlled trials are warranted. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=end-stage%20renal%20disease" title="end-stage renal disease">end-stage renal disease</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hemodialysis" title=" hemodialysis"> hemodialysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acupuncture" title=" acupuncture"> acupuncture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=residual%20renal%20function" title=" residual renal function"> residual renal function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=residual%20urine%20volume" title=" residual urine volume"> residual urine volume</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137391/interdialytic-acupuncture-is-an-add-on-option-for-preserving-residual-renal-function-a-case-series-report" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137391.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">129</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Language and Empire: A Post-Colonial Examination of Othering and Identity in Babel: An Arcane History</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Essam%20Hegazy">Essam Hegazy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> English has solidified its role as the global lingua franca, largely due to British colonial expansion. This research investigates the use of English as a tool for Empire-building and the subjugation of colonized peoples and their languages. The objective is to examine how linguistic Anglo-hegemony contributes to the construction of otherness and identity formation, and how these processes are depicted in R.F. Kuang's novel Babel: An Arcane History. Using a post-colonial theoretical framework, this study employs textual analysis to explore the novel's portrayal of characters' conflicting loyalties to their native cultures and the British Empire. Key methods include identifying themes of linguistic dominance, othering, and identity conflict through close reading and annotation. The analysis is contextualized with historical and cultural perspectives to understand the broader implications of these themes. The findings reveal that linguistic hegemony is a central mechanism of colonial power, deeply affecting the characters' sense of identity and belonging. The study uncovers how the imposition of English creates internalized conflicts and reinforces social hierarchies. This research highlights the need to challenge hegemonic structures to preserve authentic identities and promote cultural diversity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linguistic%20hegemony" title="linguistic hegemony">linguistic hegemony</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=otherness" title=" otherness"> otherness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=identity%20formation" title=" identity formation"> identity formation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=colonialism" title=" colonialism"> colonialism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=imperialism" title=" imperialism"> imperialism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/189152/language-and-empire-a-post-colonial-examination-of-othering-and-identity-in-babel-an-arcane-history" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/189152.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">24</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Survey and Analysis of the Operational Dilemma of the Existing Used Clothes Recycling Model in the Community</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qiaohui%20Zhong">Qiaohui Zhong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yiqi%20Kuang"> Yiqi Kuang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wanxun%20Cai"> Wanxun Cai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Libin%20Huang"> Libin Huang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> As a community public facility, the popularity and perfection of old clothes recycling products directly affect people's impression of the whole city, which is related to the happiness index of residents' lives and is of great significance to the construction of eco-civilized cities and the realization of sustainable urban development. At present, China's waste clothing is characterized by large production and a high utilization rate, but the current rate of old clothes recycling is low, and the ‘one-size-fits-all’ recycling model makes people's motivation for old clothes recycling low, and old clothes recycling is in a dilemma. Based on the two online and offline recycling modes of old clothes recycling in Chinese communities, this paper conducts an in-depth survey on the public, operators, and regulators from the aspects of activity scene analysis, crowd attributes analysis, and community space analysis summarizes the difficulties of old clothes recycling for the public - nowhere to recycle, inconvenient to recycle and unwilling to recycle, and analyzes the factors that lead to these difficulties, and gives a solution with foreign experience to solve these problems. The word vectors produced by these language models can be viewed as dense encoded presentations of natural language that in text form. However, it is unknown how much linguistic information is encoded and how. In this paper, we construct several corresponding probing tasks for multiple linguistic information to clarify the encoding capabilities of different language models and performed a visual display. We firstly obtain word presentations in vector form from different language models, including BERT, ELMo, RoBERTa and GPT. Classifiers with a small scale of parameters and unsupervised tasks are then applied on these word vectors to discriminate their capability to encode corresponding linguistic information. The constructed probe tasks contain both semantic and syntactic aspects. The semantic aspect includes the ability of the model to understand semantic entities such as numbers, time, and characters, and the grammatical aspect includes the ability of the language model to understand grammatical structures such as dependency relationships and reference relationships. We also compare encoding capabilities of different layers in the same language model to infer how linguistic information is encoded in the model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language%20models" title="language models">language models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=probing%20task" title=" probing task"> probing task</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=text%20presentation" title=" text presentation"> text presentation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linguistic%20information" title=" linguistic information"> linguistic information</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168840/probing-language-models-for-multiple-linguistic-information" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168840.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">110</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">28</span> Flowering Response of a Red Pitaya Germplasm Collection to Lighting Addition</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dinh-Ha%20Tran">Dinh-Ha Tran</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chung-Ruey%20Yen"> Chung-Ruey Yen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Kuang%20H.%20Chen"> Yu-Kuang H. The night-breaking treatment was conducted during the period of 10 Oct. 2013 to 5 Mar. 2014 with 4-continuous hours (22.00–02.00 hrs) of additional lighting daily using incandescent bulbs (100W). Among cultivars and clones tested, twenty-three genotypes, most belonging to the red-magenta flesh type, were found to have positive flowering response to the lighting treatment. The duration of night-breaking treatment for successful flowering initiation varied from 33 - 48 days. The lighting-sensitive genotypes bore 1-2 flowering flushes. Floral and fruiting stages took 21-26 and 46-59 days, respectively. Among sixteen fruiting genotypes, the highest fruit set rates were found in Damao 9, D4, D13, Chaozou large, Chaozhou 5, Small Nick and F22. Five cultivars and clones (Orejona, D4, Chaozhou large, Chaozhou 5, and Small Nick) produced fruits with an average weight of more than 300 g per fruit which was higher than those of the fruits formed in the summer of 2013. Fruits produced during off-season contain total soluble solids (TSS) from 17.5 to 20.7 oBrix, which was higher than those produced in-season. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flowering%20response" title="flowering response">flowering response</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=long-day%20plant" title=" long-day plant"> long-day plant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=night-breaking%20treatment" title=" night-breaking treatment"> night-breaking treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=off-season%20production" title=" off-season production"> off-season production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pitaya" title=" pitaya"> pitaya</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24456/flowering-response-of-a-red-pitaya-germplasm-collection-to-lighting-addition" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24456.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">302</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">27</span> Improvement in Acoustic Performance at Low Frequency via Application of Acoustic Resistance of Vented Hole in In-Ear Earphones</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tzu-Hsuan%20Lei">Tzu-Hsuan Lei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shu-Chien%20Wu"> Shu-Chien Wu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuang-Che%20Lo"> Kuang-Che Lo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shu-Chi%20Liu"> Shu-Chi Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Cheng%20Liu"> Yu-Cheng Liu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The focus of this study was on the effects of air propagation associated with vented holes on acoustic resistance properties. A cylindrical hole with diameter and depth of 0.7 mm and 1.0 mm, respectively, was the research target. By constructing a finite element analytical model of its sound field properties, the acoustic-specific airflow resistance relationships were obtained for the differences in sound pressure and flow velocity at the two ends of this vented hole. In addition, the acoustic properties of this vented hole were included in the in-ear earphone simulation model to complete the sound pressure curve simulation analysis of the in-ear earphone system with a vented hole of corresponding size. Then, the simulation results were compared with actual measurements obtained from the standard system. Based on the results, when the in-ear earphone vented hole simulation model considered the simulated specific airflow resistance values of this cylindrical hole, the overall simulated sound pressure performance was highly consistent with that of measured values. The difference in the first peak values of sound pressure at mid-to-low frequencies was reduced from 5.64% when the simulation model did not consider the specific airflow resistance of the cylindrical hole to 1.18%, and the accuracy of the overall simulation was around 70%. This indicates the importance of the acoustic resistance properties of vented holes. Moreover, as specific airflow resistance values were able to be further quantified, the accuracy of the entire in-ear earphone simulation was ultimately and effectively elevated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=specific%20airflow%20resistance" title="specific airflow resistance">specific airflow resistance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vented%20holes" title=" vented holes"> vented holes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=in-ear%20earphone" title=" in-ear earphone"> in-ear earphone</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20method" title=" finite element method"> finite element method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186158/improvement-in-acoustic-performance-at-low-frequency-via-application-of-acoustic-resistance-of-vented-hole-in-in-ear-earphones" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186158.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">43</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">26</span> Oxygen Transport in Blood Flows Pasts Staggered Fiber Arrays: A Computational Fluid Dynamics Study of an Oxygenator in Artificial Lung</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Chen%20Hsu">Yu-Chen Hsu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuang%20C.%20Lin"> Kuang C. Lin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The artificial lung called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an important medical machine that supports persons whose heart and lungs dysfunction. Previously, investigation of steady deoxygenated blood flows passing through hollow fibers for oxygen transport was carried out experimentally and computationally. The present study computationally analyzes the effect of biological pulsatile flow on the oxygen transport in blood. A 2-D model with a pulsatile flow condition is employed. The power law model is used to describe the non-Newtonian flow and the Hill equation is utilized to simulate the oxygen saturation of hemoglobin. The dimensionless parameters for the physical model include Reynolds numbers (Re), Womersley parameters (α), pulsation amplitudes (A), Sherwood number (Sh) and Schmidt number (Sc). The present model with steady-state flow conditions is well validated against previous experiment and simulations. It is observed that pulsating flow amplitudes significantly influence the velocity profile, pressure of oxygen (PO2), saturation of oxygen (SO2) and the oxygen mass transfer rates (m ̇_O2). In comparison between steady-state and pulsating flows, our findings suggest that the consideration of pulsating flow in the computational model is needed when Re is raised from 2 to 10 in a typical range for flow in artificial lung. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20lung" title="artificial lung">artificial
