Albers was wounded three times in battle and was a victim of a <a href="/wiki/Poison_gas" class="mw-redirect" title="Poison gas">poison gas</a> attack. He soon became assistant chancellor and assistant to the archbishop. In 1925, Alberts was appointed <a href="/wiki/Chancellor" title="Chancellor">chancellor</a>.
