The study employs a quantitative approach using s sample of (124) industrial and services companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange for the period from 2010 to 2019. Multiple linear regression analysis has been applied to test the study's hypothesis. The study employs effective tax rate and book-tax difference to measure tax avoidance and Tobin's Q factor to measure firm value. The results of the study revealed that tax avoidance practices, when measured using effective tax rates, do not significantly impact firm value. When the book-tax difference is used to measure tax avoidance, the study results showed a negative impact on firm value. The result of the study has not supported the traditional view of tax avoidance as a transfer of wealth from the government to shareholders for industrial and services companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange, indicating that Jordanian firms should not use tax avoidance strategies to enhance their value. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tax%20avoidance" title="tax avoidance">tax avoidance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=effective%20tax%20rate" title=" effective tax rate"> effective tax rate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=book-tax%20difference" title=" book-tax difference"> book-tax difference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=firm%20value" title=" firm value"> firm value</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amman%20stock%20exchange" title=" Amman stock exchange"> Amman stock exchange</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151892/the-effect-of-tax-avoidance-on-firm-value-evidence-from-amman-stock-exchange" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151892.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">164</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">117</span> Novel Design of Quantum Dot Arrays to Enhance Near-Fields Excitation Resonances</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nour%20Hassan%20Ismail">Nour Hassan Ismail</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelmonem%20Nassar"> Abdelmonem Nassar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaled%20Baz"> Khaled Baz</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Semiconductor crystals smaller than about 10 nm, known as quantum dots, have properties that differ from large samples, including a band gap that becomes larger for smaller particles. Twelve dark colored dromedary camels were divided into two equal groups. The first group was subjected to CIDR insertion for 7 days and blood samples were collected each other day from the day of CIDR insertion (day 0) till day 21. The other group was subjected to GPG system (Ovsynch) and blood samples were collected daily for 11 days. Progesterone (P4) and estradiol were assayed using commercial ELISA diagnostic EIA kits. Catalase (CAT), total antioxidants capacity (TAC), glutathione reduced (GHD), lipid peroxide product (malondialdehyde, MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) were measured colorimetrically using spectrophotometer. Results revealed that CIDR treated camels had significantly high P4 (P= 0.0001), estradiol (P= 0.0001), CAT (P= 0.034), NO (P= 0.016) and TAC (P= 0.04) but significantly low MDA (P= 0.001) and GHD (P= 0.003) compared to GPG treated ones. Camels inserted with CIDR had higher conception rate (66.7%) compared to those treated with GPG (33%). In conclusion, camels treated with CIDR had higher hormonal response and antioxidant capacity than those synchronized with GPG which positively reflected on their conception rate. The better response of camels to CIDR and the higher conception compared to GPG protocol recommends its use for future reproductive management in camels. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antioxidants" title="antioxidants">antioxidants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=camel" title=" camel"> camel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CIDR" title=" CIDR"> CIDR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=season" title=" season"> season</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steroid%20hormones" title=" steroid hormones"> steroid hormones</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68184/ovarian-hormones-and-antioxidants-biomarkers-in-dromedary-camels-synchronized-with-controlled-intravaginal-drug-releaseovsynch-gpg-program-during-breeding-season" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68184.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">290</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">115</span> Precambrian/Neoproterozoic Sediments of the Sirt Basin, Libya: New Palynological Evidence</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20D.%20El-mehdawi">Ali D. These sediments known as Nubian, Sarir, Amal or Cambro-Ordovician sandstones. They are usually barren of any age datable palynomorphs and microfossils and represent the main hydrocarbon reservoirs in the basin. As a part of an ongoing regional project concerned with revision and updating of the stratigraphic nomenclature of the Sirt Basin and adjacent areas, sixteen core and ditch cutting samples from four wells penetrating the known Cambro-Ordovician sediments in the central and eastern parts of the basin were examined palynologicaly to investigate its age and the depositional paleoenvironment. The samples proved to be barren or yielded rare palynomorph assemblage, which dominated by dark grey to black small and large-sized sphaeromorph acritarchs assemblage of leiosphaerid types. The dominated species are Kildinosphaera chagrinata, K. cf. chagrinata, Kildinella ripheica, Kilinella timanica, Leiosphaeridia asperata and Leiosphaeridia spp. These leiosphaerides assemblage are comparable to those have been reported from the Late Precambrian, late Riphean age in Cyrenaica Platform, NE Libya, and would indicated shallow marine depositional environment. The age assignment suggests that this interval most probably equates to Mourizide, Bir Bayai and Wadi alHayt formations known in the Murzuq, Kufrah and Cyrenaica areas, respectively. This study proves the presence of Precambrian sediments in Jaghbub high and Amal Platform in the eastern part of Sirt Basin and probably in Maradah Trough and Aj Jahamah/Zoltun Platform northwestern part of the Sirt Basin. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=palynology" title="palynology">palynology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leiosphaerides" title=" leiosphaerides"> leiosphaerides</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=precambrian" title=" precambrian"> precambrian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sirt%20basin" title=" sirt basin"> sirt basin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=libya" title=" libya"> libya</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172547/precambrianneoproterozoic-sediments-of-the-sirt-basin-libya-new-palynological-evidence" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172547.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">83</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">114</span> Wind Speed Prediction Using Passive Aggregation Artificial Intelligence Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tarek%20Aboueldahab">Tarek Aboueldahab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amin%20Mohamed%20Nassar"> Amin Mohamed Nassar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Wind energy is a fluctuating energy source unlike conventional power plants, thus, it is necessary to accurately predict short term wind speed to integrate wind energy in the electricity supply structure. Solution of nanoparticles is found stable in the colloidal form for a long time. The effect of ablation time on the optical and structure of ZnO was studied is characterized by UV-visible absorption. UV-visible absorption spectrum has four peaks at 256, 259, 265, 322 nm for ablation time (5, 10, 15, and 20 sec) respectively, our results show that UV–vis spectra show a blue shift in the presence of CTAB with decrease the ablation time and blue shift indicated to get smaller size of nanoparticles. The blue shift in the absorption edge indicates the quantum confinement property of nanoparticles. This paper presents a model that extracts topological relationships and geometrical properties of building elements from an existing fully designed BIM, and maps this information into a directed acyclic Elemental Graph Data Model (EGDM). The model incorporates BIM-based search algorithms for automatic deduction of geometrical data and topological relationships for each building element type. Using graph search algorithms, such as Depth First Search (DFS) and topological sortings, all possible construction sequences can be generated and compared against production and construction rules to generate an optimized construction sequence and its associated schedule. The model is implemented in a C# platform. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20information%20modeling%20%28BIM%29" title="building information modeling (BIM)">building information modeling (BIM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elemental%20graph%20data%20model%20%28EGDM%29" title=" elemental graph data model (EGDM)"> elemental graph data model (EGDM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geometric%20and%20topological%20data%20models" title=" geometric and topological data models"> geometric and topological data models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=graph%20theory" title=" graph theory"> graph theory</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70542/elemental-graph-data-model-a-semantic-and-topological-representation-of-building-elements" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70542.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">382</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">106</span> Predicting Survival in Cancer: How Cox Regression Model Compares to Artifial Neural Networks? </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dalia%20Rimawi">Dalia Rimawi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Walid%20Salameh"> Walid Salameh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20Al-Omari"> Amal Al-Omari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hadeel%20AbdelKhaleq"> Hadeel AbdelKhaleq</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Predication of Survival time of patients with cancer, is a core factor that influences oncologist decisions in different aspects; such as offered treatment plans, patients’ quality of life and medications development. Apart from motor neuroprosthetics, many studies showed the possibility of controlling a virtual environment of a videogame using the acquired electroencephalogram signals (EEG) from the gamer. In addition, another study had successfully moved a farm tractor using the human’s EEG signals. This article utilizes the use of EEG signals, as a source of technology, in controlling a Parallax Boe-Bot robot. The commercial Emotive Epoc headset has been used in acquiring the EEG signals from rested subjects. Because the human's visual cortex can successfully differentiate between different colors, the red and green colors are used as visual stimuli for generating EEG signals using the Epoc. Arduino and Labview are used to translate the virtually pressed keys into instructions controlling the motion and rotation of the robot. Optimistic results have been achieved except for minor delay and accuracy in the robot’s response. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BCI" title="BCI">BCI</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emotiv%20Epoc%20headset" title=" Emotiv Epoc headset"> Emotiv Epoc headset</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EEG" title=" EEG"> EEG</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Labview" title=" Labview"> Labview</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arduino%20applications" title=" Arduino applications"> Arduino applications</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robot" title=" robot"> robot</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19505/electroencephalogram-signals-controlling-a-parallax-boe-bot-robot" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19505.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">522</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">102</span> The Impact of System and Data Quality on Organizational Success in the Kingdom of Bahrain</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20M.%20Alrayes">Amal M. The results of the present study Show evidence of proteomic variations between both modified tomato and its non-modified counterpart. Amino acids concentrations, and the protein patterns separation on the 1D SDS-PAGE were not similar in the case of transformed tomato compared to that of the non-transformed counterpart. These detected differences are most likely derived from the process of transformation. Results also revealed that the efficiency of GC/MS approach to identify a mixture of unknown proteins is limited. GC/MS analysis was only able to identify few number of protein molecules. Therefore, more advanced and specific technologies like MALDI-TOF-MS are recommended to be employed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GMOs" title="GMOs">GMOs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=unintended%20effects" title=" unintended effects"> unintended effects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=proteomic%20variations" title=" proteomic variations"> proteomic variations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=1D%20SDS-PAGE" title=" 1D SDS-PAGE"> 1D SDS-PAGE</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GC%2FMS" title=" GC/MS "> GC/MS </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26200/assessing-proteomic-variations-due-to-genetic-modification-of-tomatoes-using-three-complementary-approaches" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26200.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">454</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">100</span> Detection of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (hRSV) by PCR Technique in Lower Respiratory Tract Infection (LRTI) in Babylon City</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20Raqib%20Shameran">Amal Raqib Shameran</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ghanim%20Aboud%20Al-Mola"> Ghanim Aboud Al-Mola </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) is the major pathogens of respiratory tract infections (RTI) among infants and children in the world. The standard image registration techniques such as Mutual information/ Normalized mutual information -based methods have a limited performance because they do not consider the spatial information or the relationships between the neighbouring pixels or voxels. In addition, the amount of image noise may significantly affect the registration accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes an efficient method that explicitly considers the relationships between the adjacent pixels, where the gradient information of the reference and scene images is extracted first, and then the cosine similarity of the extracted gradient information is computed and used to improve the accuracy of the standard normalized mutual information measure. Our experimental results on different data types (i.e. CT, MRI and thermal images) show that the proposed method outperforms a number of image registration techniques in terms of the accuracy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20registration" title="image registration">image registration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mutual%20information" title=" mutual information"> mutual information</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20gradients" title=" image gradients"> image gradients</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20transformations" title=" image transformations"> image transformations</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82815/robust-image-registration-based-on-an-adaptive-normalized-mutual-information-metric" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82815.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">248</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">98</span> An Examination of the Relationship between Organizational Justice and Trust in the Supervisor: The Mediating Role of Perceived Supervisor Support</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michel%20Zaitouni">Michel Zaitouni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Nassar"> Mohamed Nassar </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this study is first, to explore the effect of employees’ perception of justice on trust in the supervisor in the context of performance appraisal; Second, to assess the role of perceived supervisor support as a mediator between organizational justice and trust in the supervisor in a non-western society such as Kuwait. The survey data consisted of 415 employees working at different hierarchical levels in three major banks in Kuwait. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to test the research hypotheses. Results supported hypothesized relationships between distributive, informational and interpersonal justice and trust in the supervisor but failed to support that procedural justice positively and significantly relate to trust in the supervisor. Moreover, results found that this relationship is partially mediated by perceived supervisor support. A potential limitation of this study is that data were obtained from the same industry which limits the generalizability of this study to other industries. Moreover, a longitudinal research will be helpful to strengthen the mediating relationship. The findings provide valuable information for the development of common perspectives regarding the perception of justice in the context of performance appraisal between the western and non-western societies. The paper has the privilege to explore additional relationships related to justice perceptions in the Kuwaiti banking sector, whereas previous research focused mainly on procedural and distributive justice as predictors of trust in the supervisor. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuwait" title="Kuwait">Kuwait</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organizational%20justice" title=" organizational justice"> organizational justice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=perceived%20supervisor%20support" title=" perceived supervisor support"> perceived supervisor support</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trust%20in%20the%20supervisor" title=" trust in the supervisor"> trust in the supervisor</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18129/an-examination-of-the-relationship-between-organizational-justice-and-trust-in-the-supervisor-the-mediating-role-of-perceived-supervisor-support" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18129.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">309</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">97</span> Web 2.0 in Higher Education: The Instructors’ Acceptance in Higher Educational Institutes in Kingdom of Bahrain</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20M.%20Alrayes">Amal M. There are many Web 2.0 technologies, services and tools designed for educational purposes. This research aims to investigate instructors’ acceptance towards web-based learning systems in higher educational institutes in Kingdom of Bahrain. Questionnaire is used to investigate the instructors’ usage of Web 2.0 and the factors affecting their acceptance. The results confirm that instructors had high accessibility to such technologies. However, patterns of use were complex. Whilst most expressed interest in using online technologies to support learning activities, learners seemed cautious about other values associated with web-based system, such as the shared construction of knowledge in a public format. The research concludes that there are main factors that affect instructors’ adoption which are security, performance expectation, perceived benefits, subjective norm, and perceived usefulness. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Web%202.0" title="Web 2.0">Web 2.0</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher%20education" title=" higher education"> higher education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acceptance" title=" acceptance"> acceptance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=students%27%20perception" title=" students' perception"> students' perception</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39908/web-20-in-higher-education-the-instructors-acceptance-in-higher-educational-institutes-in-kingdom-of-bahrain" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39908.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">337</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">96</span> Performance Assessment of Multi-Level Ensemble for Multi-Class Problems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rodolfo%20Lorbieski">Rodolfo Lorbieski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Modesto%20Nassar"> Silvia Modesto Nassar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Many supervised machine learning tasks require decision making across numerous different classes. Multi-class classification has several applications, such as face recognition, text recognition and medical diagnostics. The objective of this article is to analyze an adapted method of Stacking in multi-class problems, which combines ensembles within the ensemble itself. For this purpose, a training similar to Stacking was used, but with three levels, where the final decision-maker (level 2) performs its training by combining outputs from the tree-based pair of meta-classifiers (level 1) from Bayesian families. These are in turn trained by pairs of base classifiers (level 0) of the same family. This strategy seeks to promote diversity among the ensembles forming the meta-classifier level 2. Three performance measures were used: (1) accuracy, (2) area under the ROC curve, and (3) time for three factors: (a) datasets, (b) experiments and (c) levels. To compare the factors, ANOVA three-way test was executed for each performance measure, considering 5 datasets by 25 experiments by 3 levels. A triple interaction between factors was observed only in time. The accuracy and area under the ROC curve presented similar results, showing a double interaction between level and experiment, as well as for the dataset factor. It was concluded that level 2 had an average performance above the other levels and that the proposed method is especially efficient for multi-class problems when compared to binary problems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stacking" title="stacking">stacking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-layers" title=" multi-layers"> multi-layers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ensemble" title=" ensemble"> ensemble</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-class" title=" multi-class"> multi-class</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77466/performance-assessment-of-multi-level-ensemble-for-multi-class-problems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77466.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">269</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">95</span> Open Source Software in Higher Education: Oman SQU Case Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20S.%20Al-Badi">Amal S. It is a clear shift from organizations to individuals, the concept being to rely on collective participation rather than companies/vendors. The main objectives of this research are 1) to identify the current level of OSS usage in Sultan Qaboos University; 2) to identify the potential benefits of using OSS in educational institutes; 3) to identify the OSS applications that are most likely to be used within an educational institute; 4) to identify the existing and potential barriers to the successful adoption of OSS in education. To achieve these objectives a two-stage research method was conducted. First a rigorous literature review of previously published material was performed (interpretive/descriptive approach), and then a set of interviews were conducted with the IT professionals at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman in order to explore the extent and nature of their usage of OSS. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=open%20source%20software" title="open source software">open source software</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20software" title=" social software"> social software</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=e-learning%202.0" title=" e-learning 2.0"> e-learning 2.0</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Web%202.0" title=" Web 2.0"> Web 2.0</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=connectivism" title=" connectivism"> connectivism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=personal%20learning%20environment%20%28PLE%29" title=" personal learning environment (PLE)"> personal learning environment (PLE)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=OpenCourseWare" title=" OpenCourseWare"> OpenCourseWare</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12559/open-source-software-in-higher-education-oman-squ-case-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12559.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">305</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">94</span> High-Capacity Image Steganography using Wavelet-based Fusion on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20Khalifa">Amal Khalifa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Vana%20Santos"> Nicolas Vana Santos</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Steganography has been known for centuries as an efficient approach for covert communication. Due to its popularity and ease of access, image steganography has attracted researchers to find secure techniques for hiding information within an innocent looking cover image. In this research, we propose a novel deep-learning approach to digital image steganography. The proposed method, DeepWaveletFusion, uses convolutional neural networks (CNN) to hide a secret image into a cover image of the same size. Two CNNs are trained back-to-back to merge the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) of both colored images and eventually be able to blindly extract the hidden image. Based on two different image similarity metrics, a weighted gain function is used to guide the learning process and maximize the quality of the retrieved secret image and yet maintaining acceptable imperceptibility. Experimental results verified the high recoverability of DeepWaveletFusion which outperformed similar deep-learning-based methods. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title="deep learning">deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steganography" title=" steganography"> steganography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image" title=" image"> image</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20wavelet%20transform" title=" discrete wavelet transform"> discrete wavelet transform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fusion" title=" fusion"> fusion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170293/high-capacity-image-steganography-using-wavelet-based-fusion-on-deep-convolutional-neural-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170293.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">90</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">93</span> A Review of Urban Placemaking Assessment Frameworks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20Abdou">Amal Abdou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasser%20ElSayed"> Yasser ElSayed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nora%20Selim"> Nora Selim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Public urban spaces are an essential component in any urban settlement. They are quite important in enhancing the quality of urban life while offering social, health, environmental and economic benefits to a city and its residents. Place-making assessment of public urban spaces has been one of the major guiding principles for urban planning and policymaking, of which the definition and evaluation have become the crucial research topic. It is increasingly being essential to mitigate the undesirable impacts of urbanization in cities while improving public urban space’s resilience to environmental, social, and economic changes. Globally, several place-making assessment tools (PATs) have been developed to make such informed decision-making. They act as a catalyst to increase market demand for sustainable products and services by providing a mechanism for recognizing excellence. Assessing how placemaking can positively contribute to urban environments is critical to inform both the continued development of the place and the way placemaking is done as a practice. Therefore, this study aims to review different themes for assessing urban placemaking in public urban spaces. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20placemaking" title="urban placemaking">urban placemaking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20urban%20spaces" title=" public urban spaces"> public urban spaces</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=placemaking%20assessment" title=" placemaking assessment"> placemaking assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=literature%20review" title=" literature review"> literature review</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164346/a-review-of-urban-placemaking-assessment-frameworks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164346.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">98</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">92</span> A Less Complexity Deep Learning Method for Drones Detection</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamad%20Kassab">Mohamad Kassab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20El%20Fallah%20Seghrouchni"> Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frederic%20Barbaresco"> Frederic Barbaresco</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raed%20Abu%20Zitar"> Raed Abu Zitar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Detecting objects such as drones is a challenging task as their relative size and maneuvering capabilities deceive machine learning models and cause them to misclassify drones as birds or other objects. In this work, we investigate applying several deep learning techniques to benchmark real data sets of flying drones. A deep learning paradigm is proposed for the purpose of mitigating the complexity of those systems. The proposed paradigm consists of a hybrid between the AdderNet deep learning paradigm and the Single Shot Detector (SSD) paradigm. The goal was to minimize multiplication operations numbers in the filtering layers within the proposed system and, hence, reduce complexity. Some standard machine learning technique, such as SVM, is also tested and compared to other deep learning systems. The data sets used for training and testing were either complete or filtered in order to remove the images with mall objects. The types of data were RGB or IR data. It is the eye that sees from, the lunges of the construction, and the ear to hear. The success of the building, as well as the comfort of the uses, depends mainly on this relationship. Usually, windows are affected by human factors like religious, social, political and economic factors as well as environmental factors like climatic, aesthetic and functional factors. In Islamic architecture, the windows were one of the most important elements of physiological and psychological comfort to the users of the buildings. Windows considered one of the main parameters in designing internal and external facade, where the window openings occupied a big part of the formation of the external facade of the buildings. This paper discusses the importance of the window openings and its relationship to residential buildings in the Islamic architecture. It addresses the rules that have been followed in the design of windows in Islamic architecture to achieve privacy and thermal comfort while there are no technological elements within the dwellings. Also, it demonstrates the effects of windows on the building form and identity and how it gives a distinctive fingerprint of the architecture buildings. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong>
