Therefore<MH5921, 3651> in<MH6923> anticipation<MH6923> <i>of this</i> I fled<MH1272> to Tarshish<MH8659>, since<MH3588> I knew<MH3045> that You are a gracious<MH2587> and compassionate<MH7349> God<MH410>, slow<MH750> to anger<MH639> and abundant<MH7227a> in mercy<MH2617a>, and One who relents<MH5162> of disaster<MH7463a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jonah/4-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>So now<MH6258>, LORD<MH3068>, please<MH4994> take<MH3947> my <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>life<MH5315> from me, for death<MH4194> is better<MH2896a> to me than<MH4480> life<MH2425b>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/jonah/4-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>But the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559>, “Do you have<MH3190> a good<MH3190> reason<MH3190> to be<MH2734> angry<MH2734>?” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jonah/4-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then Jonah<MH3124> left<MH3318> the city<MH5892b> and sat<MH3427> down<MH3427> east<MH6924a> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>it. There<MH8033> he made<MH6213a> a shelter<MH5521> for himself and sat<MH3427> under<MH8478> it in the shade<MH6738>, until<MH5704, 834> he could see<MH7200> what<MH4100> would happen<MH1961> in the city<MH5892b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jonah/4-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>So the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> designated<MH4487> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>plant<MH7021>, and it grew<MH5927> up<MH5927> over<MH4480, 5921> Jonah<MH3124> to be a shade<MH6738> over<MH5921> his head<MH7218>, to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>relieve<MH5337> him of his discomfort<MH7463a>.
