FFC Frankfurt, ist zur UEFA-Botschafterin des Frauenfußball-Entwicklungsprogramms (WFDP) ernannt worden.</p> <p>Diese Ernennung von Jones, die ihre beeindruckende Karriere als Aktive im Jahre 2007 beendete, wurde vor dem Hinspiel der Runde der letzten 32 in der UEFA Women's Champions League am Mittwoch zwischen Frankfurt und Stabæk FK im Stadion am Brentanobad bekannt gegeben.</p> <p>Bei dieser Zeremonie war auch Dr. Theo Zwanziger, Präsident des Deutschen Fußball-Bunds (DFB) und Mitglied des UEFA-Exekutivkomitees anwesend, außerdem auch Karen Espelund, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20120107102312/http://de.uefa.com/uefa/aboutuefa/organisation/executivecommittee/news/newsid=1644420.html" target="_blank"><strong>Mitglied des UEFA-Exekutivkomitees per Einladung</strong></a> und Vorsitzende der UEFA-Kommission für Frauenfußball.</p> <p>Steffi Jones, die Präsidentin des Organisationskomitees der FIFA-WM für Frauen 2011, trug wesentlich dazu bei, dass dieses Turnier in Deutschland ein voller Erfolg wurde. Weltweit wurde ihre Arbeit gelobt, in Sachen <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20120107102312/http://de.uefa.com/womensworldcup/news/newsid=1651458.html" target="_blank"><strong>Besucher- und TV-Zuschauerzahlen</strong></a> gab es Rekordmarken.<br/><br/>In ihrer aktiven Zeit gewann Jones mit Frankfurt zweimal den Frauen-UEFA-Pokal, und mit Deutschland dreimal die UEFA-Europameisterschaft für Frauen, zwei olympische Bronzemedaillen und 2003 die FIFA-WM für Frauen. Nach der WM in diesem Sommer wurde sie DFB-Direktorin für Mädchen- und Frauenfußball.</p> <p>UEFA-Präsident Michel Platini sagte: "Die UEFA freut sich, mit dem DFB zusammenzuarbeiten, um den Stellenwert des Frauenfußballs weiter zu erhöhen. Steffi Jones ist das ideale Aushängeschild dafür. Die UEFA unterstützt auch weiterhin all ihre Mitgliedsverbände bei der Entwicklung des Frauenfußballs. Die FIFA Frauenfußball-Weltmeisterschaft 2011 hat dem Frauenfußball große Aufmerksamkeit gebracht – auf diesem Weg müssen wir fortfahren."</p> <p>DFB-Präsident Zwanziger sagte: "Steffi Jones hat ihre sehr verantwortungsvolle Aufgabe als Präsidentin des Organisationskomitees der Frauen-Weltmeisterschaft 2011 in Deutschland glänzend erfüllt. Sie hat mit sehr viel Klugheit, ihrer Ausstrahlung und ihrer Aufnahmebereitschaft sehr großes Ansehen in der Öffentlichkeit gewonnen. Um der tollen WM nunmehr eine Nachhaltigkeit für den Frauenfußball weltweit zu geben, benötigt es viele Projekte und Gesichter. Deshalb freue ich mich über die Entscheidung der UEFA, Steffi Jones zur Frauenfußball-Botschafterin des europäischen Verbandes zu machen."</p> <p>Die neue UEFA-Botschafterin für Frauenfußball Steffi Jones sagte: "Ich freue mich sehr über diese bedeutende Herausforderung. UEFA-Botschafterin für die Entwicklung des Frauenfußballs zu sein, ist eine große Ehre und ich freue mich darauf, einen Beitrag zum weiteren Aufschwung des Frauenfußballs leisten zu können."</p> <p>Im Dezember 2010 stimmte das UEFA-Exekutivkomitee der <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20120107102312/http://de.uefa.com/uefa/footballfirst/footballdevelopment/knowledgesharing/news/newsid=1601602%20.html " target="_blank"><strong>Bereitstellung eines WFDP-Fonds</strong></a> durch sein HatTrick-Unterstützungsprogramms zu. In der ursprünglichen Pilotphase 2010/11 erhielten vier nationale Verbände je 50 000 Euro. Der Umfang dieser Zuwendungen beträgt 22 Millionen Euro, was eine klare Demonstration der Entschlossenheit der UEFA ist, den Frauenfußball zu entwickeln.</p> <p>Im September präsentierte Karen Espelund den 53 Mitgliedsverbänden die Strategie der UEFA für die Entwicklung des Frauenfußballs. Sie erklärte, dass die Entwicklung aller Aspekte des Frauen- und Mädchenfußballs bei der UEFA oberste Priorität habe. Durch konkrete Taten und die Besetzung führender Positionen mit Frauen wolle die UEFA ein positives Beispiel geben.</p> <p>Am 17.
