Speech perception is an incredibly fast process, given that while the mechanism interprets the incoming waveform as a series of linguistic segments and suprasegmentals, it is also continuously ready to receive and correct the incoming erroneous messages. The goal of the present experiment was to describe the correction process and determine its efficiency. Various types of disfluency were tested with nine-year-old children, young adults, and elders. The results show that the time span of the corrective process depends upon the type of disfluency, the context, and the listener&#39;s age. The higher operational level the production error involves, the more time is required for correcting it and the corrections are poorer than at lower operational levels.</div></div></div><ul Speech perception is an incredibly fast process, given that while the mechanism interprets the incoming waveform as a series of linguistic segments and suprasegmentals, it is also continuously ready to receive and correct the incoming erroneous messages. The goal of the present experiment was to describe the correction process and determine its efficiency. Various types of disfluency were tested with nine-year-old children, young adults, and elders. The results show that the time span of the corrective process depends upon the type of disfluency, the context, and the listener&#39;s age. Our hypotheses were the following: 1) If the age increases, the mean and standard deviation of VOTs decrease. 2) The VOTs of Hungarian-speaking children become similar to adults&#39; VOTs at the age of 11. 3) The differences between genders depend on the age and the types of plosives. In this study 30 Hungarian-speaking children were participated in three age groups (9-, 11- and 13-year-olds). The VOTs of voiceless plosives ([p], [t], [k]) were analyzed in spontaneous speech. Our hypotheses were only partially proved by the results. There were significant differences between VOTs of the different plosives in all age groups. There were age differences in VOTs of all three plosives: with increasing age, the means of the VOTs of [p], [k] decreased, and the mean of the VOTs of [t] increased. However, the low number of studies dealing with the analysis of disfluencies in cluttering show contradictory results. The aim of this article is to analyse disfluency clusters in cluttered, fast and typical speech. Frequency of all disfluency clusters and those complex disfluencies which contain more than two constituents were analysed. The number and types of the constituents of complex disfluencies and the reason of their occurrence were analysed in detail. Results show that complex disfluencies occurred the most frequently in cluttered speech, and the least frequently in exceptionally rapid speech (ERS). The number and types of the constituents of complex disfluencies and the reason of their occurrence were analysed in detail. Our hypotheses were the following: 1) If the age increases, the mean and standard deviation of VOTs decrease. 2) The VOTs of Hungarian-speaking children become similar to adults&#39; VOTs at the age of 11. 3) The differences between genders depend on the age and the types of plosives. In this study 30 Hungarian-speaking children were participated in three age groups (9-, 11- and 13-year-olds). The VOTs of voiceless plosives ([p], [t], [k]) were analyzed in spontaneous speech. Our hypotheses were only partially proved by the results. There were significant differences between VOTs of the different plosives in all age groups. There were age differences in VOTs of all three plosives: with increasing age, the means of the VOTs of [p], [k] decreased, and the mean of the VOTs of [t] increased. Functions of repetitions are well determinable from their durational patterns and pauses around the first and second instances of the repeated words. Speech perception is an incredibly fast process, given that while the mechanism interprets the incoming waveform as a series of linguistic segments and suprasegmentals, it is also continuously ready to receive and correct the incoming erroneous messages. The goal of the present experiment was to describe the correction process and determine its efficiency. Various types of disfluency were tested with nine-year-old children, young adults, and elders. The results show that the time span of the corrective process depends upon the type of disfluency, the context, and the listener’s age.
