and he led<MH5090a> the flock<MH6629> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>west<MH310> side<MH310> of the wilderness<MH4057b> and came<MH935> to Horeb<MH2722>, the mountain<MH2022> of God<MH430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Then the angel<MH4397> of the LORD<MH3068> appeared<MH7200> to him in a blazing<MH3852> fire<MH784> from the midst<MH8432> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>a bush<MH5572>; and he looked<MH7200>, and behold<MH2009>, the bush<MH5572> was burning<MH1197a> with fire<MH784>, yet the bush<MH5572> was not being consumed<MH398>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> said<MH559>, “I must turn<MH5493> aside<MH5493> and see<MH7200> this<MH2088> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>marvelous<MH1419> sight<MH4758>, why<MH4069> the bush<MH5572> is not burning<MH1197a> up<MH1197a>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>When the LORD<MH3068> saw<MH7200> that he turned<MH5493> aside<MH5493> to look<MH7200>, God<MH430> called<MH7121> to him from the midst<MH8432> of the bush<MH5572> and said<MH559>, “Moses<MH4872>, Moses<MH4872>!” And he said<MH559>, “Here<MH2009> I am.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then He said<MH559>, “Do not come<MH7126> near<MH7126> here<MH1988>; remove<MH5394> your sandals<MH5275> from your feet<MH7272>, for the place<MH4725> on which<MH834> you are standing<MH5975> is holy<MH6944> ground<MH127>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And He said<MH559>, “I am the God<MH430> of your father<MH1>—the God<MH430> of Abraham<MH85>, the God<MH430> of Isaac<MH3327>, and the God<MH430> of Jacob<MH3290>.” Then Moses<MH4872> hid<MH5641> his face<MH6440>, for he was<MH3372a> afraid<MH3372a> to look<MH5027> at God<MH430>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559>, “I have certainly<MH7200> seen<MH7200> the oppression<MH6040a> of My people<MH5971a> who<MH834> are in Egypt<MH4714>, and have heard<MH8085> their outcry<MH6818> because<MH4480, 6440> of their taskmasters<MH5065>, for I am<MH3045> aware<MH3045> of their sufferings<MH4341>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>So I have come<MH3381> down<MH3381> to rescue<MH5337> them from the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>power<MH3027> of the Egyptians<MH4714>, and to bring<MH5927> them up<MH5927> from that land<MH776> to a good<MH2896a> and spacious<MH7342> land<MH776>, to a land<MH776> flowing<MH2100> with milk<MH2461> and honey<MH1706>, to the place<MH4725> of the Canaanite<MH3669a>, the Hittite<MH2850>, the Amorite<MH567>, the Perizzite<MH6522>, the Hivite<MH2340>, and the Jebusite<MH2983>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And now<MH6258>, behold<MH2009>, the cry<MH6818> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> has come<MH935> to Me; furthermore<MH1571>, I have seen<MH7200> the oppression<MH3906> with which<MH834> the Egyptians<MH4714> are oppressing<MH3905> them. <p class="hdg">The Mission of Moses</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And now<MH6258> come<MH1980>, and I will send<MH7971> you to Pharaoh<MH6547>, so that you may bring<MH3318> My people<MH5971a>, the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, out of Egypt<MH4714>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to God<MH430>, “Who<MH4310> am I, that I should go<MH1980> to Pharaoh<MH6547>, and that I should bring<MH3318> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And He said<MH559>, “Assuredly<MH3588> I will be with you, and this<MH2088> shall be the sign<MH226> to you that it is I who have sent<MH7971> you: when you have brought<MH3318> the people<MH5971a> out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714>, you shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>worship<MH5647> God<MH430> at this<MH2088> mountain<MH2022>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to God<MH430>, “Behold<MH2009>, I am going<MH935> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, and I will say<MH559> to them, ‘The God<MH430> of your fathers<MH1> has sent<MH7971> me to you.’ Now they may say<MH559> to me, ‘What<MH4100> is His name<MH8034>?’ What<MH4100> shall I say<MH559> to them?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And God<MH430> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>I AM<MH1961> WHO<MH834> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>I AM<MH1961>”; and He said<MH559>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> you shall say<MH559> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>: ‘<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>I AM<MH1961> has sent<MH7971> me to you.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>God<MH430> furthermore<MH5750> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> you shall say<MH559> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>: ‘The LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of your fathers<MH1>, the God<MH430> of Abraham<MH85>, the God<MH430> of Isaac<MH3327>, and the God<MH430> of Jacob<MH3290>, has sent<MH7971> me to you.’ This<MH2088> is My name<MH8034> forever<MH5769>, and this<MH2088> is the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>name<MH2143> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>all<MH1755> generations<MH1755> <i>to use</i> to call<MH2143> upon<MH2143> Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Go<MH1980> and gather<MH622> the elders<MH2205> of Israel<MH3478> together and say<MH559> to them, ‘The LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of your fathers<MH1>, the God<MH430> of Abraham<MH85>, Isaac<MH3327>, and Jacob<MH3290> has appeared<MH7200> to me, saying<MH559>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>I am<MH6485> indeed<MH6485> concerned<MH6485> about you and what has been done<MH6213a> to you in Egypt<MH4714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>So I said<MH559>, I will bring<MH5927> you up<MH5927> out of the oppression<MH6040a> of Egypt<MH4714> to the land<MH776> of the Canaanite<MH3669a>, the Hittite<MH2850>, the Amorite<MH567>, the Perizzite<MH6522>, the Hivite<MH2340>, and the Jebusite<MH2983>, to a land<MH776> flowing<MH2100> with milk<MH2461> and honey<MH1706>.”’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then they will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>pay<MH8085> attention<MH8085> to what<MH6963> you say<MH6963>; and you with the elders<MH2205> of Israel<MH3478> will come<MH935> to the king<MH4428> of Egypt<MH4714>, and you will say<MH559> to him, ‘The LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of the Hebrews<MH5680>, has met<MH7136a> with us. So now<MH6258>, please<MH4994> let us go<MH1980> a three<MH7969> days’<MH3117> journey<MH1870> into the wilderness<MH4057b>, so that we may sacrifice<MH2076> to the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>But I know<MH3045> that the king<MH4428> of Egypt<MH4714> will not permit<MH5414> you to go<MH1980>, except<MH3808> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>under compulsion<MH2389, 3027>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>So I will reach<MH7971> out<MH7971> with My hand<MH3027> and strike<MH5221> Egypt<MH4714> with all<MH3605> My miracles<MH6381> which<MH834> I shall do<MH6213a> in the midst<MH7130> of it; and after<MH310> that he will let you go<MH7971>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>I will grant<MH5414> this<MH2088> people<MH5971a> favor<MH2580> in the sight<MH5869> of the Egyptians<MH4714>; and it shall be that when you go<MH1980>, you will not go<MH1980> empty-handed<MH7387>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/3-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But every woman<MH802> shall ask<MH7592> her neighbor<MH7934> and the woman who lives<MH1481a> in her house<MH1004> for articles<MH3627> of silver<MH3701> and articles<MH3627> of gold<MH2091>, and clothing<MH8071>; and you will put<MH7760> them on your sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>.
