<a href ="../mark/16.htm">Mark 16:1&#8211;8</a>; <a href ="../luke/24.htm">Luke 24:1&#8211;12</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-1.htm"><b>1</b></a></span>The first day of the week early in morning Mary Magdalene, when it was yet dusky, came to the sepulchre, and found the stone was taken away from the sepulchre. <A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>upon this she went in great haste to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, they have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Peter immediately departed, and that other disciple, to go to the sepulchre. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>they both set out together: but the other disciple out-ran Peter, and came first to the cave, <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>where stooping down he saw the linen clothes lying; but did not go in. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Simon Peter who followed him, being come, went into the cave, and saw the linen clothes lying there; <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>as for the napkin that had been put about his head, it was not in the same place as the linen clothes, but lay folded up by it self. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>then the other disciple, who arriv'd first, went into the cave likewise, and he saw, and believed what Mary had said. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>for as yet they did not understand from the scripture, that he was to rise again from the dead.<p> <A name="11"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/16.htm#9">Mark 16:9&#8211;11</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>After this the disciples return'd to their own home.<p> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>but Mary stood at the entrance of the cave weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down to look into the sepulchre, <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>and saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, the one at the head, the other at the feet. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>and they said to her, woman, why do you weep? "because, said she, they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him." <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>having thus said, she turned about, and saw Jesus standing, but knew not that it was Jesus. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Jesus said to her, woman, why do you weep? who do you look for? she supposing him to be the gardener, said to him, sir, if it be you that have convey'd him away; tell me where you have laid him, and I will take care to have him remov'd. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Jesus said to her, Mary! she bowing her self, cry'd rabboni! <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/20-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>that is to say, master!
