class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In earthquake resistant design of buildings, evaluation of vibration characteristics is important. In recent years, due to the increment of super high-rise buildings, the evaluation of response is important for not only the first mode but also higher modes. The knowledge of vibration characteristics in buildings is mostly limited to the first mode and the knowledge of higher modes is still insufficient. In this paper, using earthquake observation records of a SRC building by applying frequency filter to ARX model, characteristics of first and second modes were studied. First, we studied the change of the eigen frequency and the damping ratio during the 3.11 earthquake. The eigen frequency gradually decreases from the time of earthquake occurrence, and it is almost stable after about 150 seconds have passed. At this time, the decreasing rates of the 1st and 2nd eigen frequencies are both about 0.7. Although the damping ratio has more large error than the eigen frequency, both the 1st and 2nd damping ratio are 3 to 5%. Also, there is a strong correlation between the 1st and 2nd eigen frequency, and the regression line is y=3.17x. In the damping ratio, the regression line is y=0.90x. Therefore 1st and 2nd damping ratios are approximately the same degree. Next, we study the eigen frequency and damping ratio from 1998 after 3.11 earthquakes, the final year is 2014. In all the considered earthquakes, they are connected in order of occurrence respectively. The eigen frequency slowly declined from immediately after completion, and tend to stabilize after several years. Although it has declined greatly after the 3.11 earthquake. Both the decresing rate of the 1st and 2nd eigen frequencies until about 7 years later are about 0.8. For the damping ratio, both the 1st and 2nd are about 1 to 6%. After the 3.11 earthquake, the 1st increases by about 1% and the 2nd increases by less than 1%. For the eigen frequency, there is a strong correlation between the 1st and 2nd, and the regression line is y=3.17x. For the damping ratio, the regression line is y=1.01x. Therefore, it can be said that the 1st and 2nd damping ratio is approximately the same degree. Based on the above results, changes in eigen frequency and damping ratio are summarized as follows. In the long-term study of the eigen frequency, both the 1st and 2nd gradually declined from immediately after completion, and tended to stabilize after a few years. Further it declined after the 3.11 earthquake. In addition, there is a strong correlation between the 1st and 2nd, and the declining time and the decreasing rate are the same degree. In the long-term study of the damping ratio, both the 1st and 2nd are about 1 to 6%. After the 3.11 earthquake, the 1st increases by about 1%, the 2nd increases by less than 1%. Also, the 1st and 2nd are approximately the same degree. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eigenfrequency" title="eigenfrequency">eigenfrequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20ratio" title=" damping ratio"> damping ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ARX%20model" title=" ARX model"> ARX model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=earthquake%20observation%20records" title=" earthquake observation records"> earthquake observation records</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84888/estimation-of-dynamic-characteristics-of-a-middle-rise-steel-reinforced-concrete-building-using-long-term" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84888.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">217</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8640</span> Vibration Analysis of Pendulum in a Viscous Fluid by Analytical Methods</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arash%20Jafari">Arash Jafari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Taghaddosi"> Mehdi Taghaddosi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azin%20Parvin"> Azin Parvin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, a vibrational differential equation governing on swinging single-degree-of-freedom pendulum in a viscous fluid has been investigated. Our purpose is to enhance the ability of solving the mentioned nonlinear differential equation with a simple and innovative approach. Comparisons are made between new method and Numerical Method (rkf45). Differential equation of movement was solved under proper initial conditions in the case of free undamped/damped vibration, considered in the absence/presence of the inerter in the mechanical system. Influence of inertance on the amplitude of vibration, phase angle, natural frequency, damping ratio, and logarithmic decrement was clarified. It was mainly found that the inerter decreases the natural frequency of the undamped system and also of the damped system if the damping ratio is below 0.707. On the other hand, the inerter increases the natural frequency of the damped system if the damping ratio exceeds 0.707. Results obtained in this work are useful for the adequate design of inerters. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping" title="damping">damping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frequency%20control" title=" frequency control"> frequency control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inerter" title=" inerter"> inerter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=one%20degree%20of%20freedom%20vibration%20system" title=" one degree of freedom vibration system"> one degree of freedom vibration system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parallel%20connection" title=" parallel connection"> parallel connection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variable%20inertance" title=" variable inertance"> variable inertance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65507/theoretical-investigation-on-the-dynamic-characteristics-of-one-degree-of-freedom-vibration-system-equipped-with-inerter-of-variable-inertance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65507.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">324</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8638</span> Clarifications on the Damping Mechanism Related to the Hunting Motion of the Wheel Axle of a High-Speed Railway Vehicle</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Barenten%20Suciu">Barenten Suciu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to explain the damping mechanism, related to the hunting motion of the wheel axle of a high-speed railway vehicle, a generalized dynamic model is proposed. When performing dynamic design, it's necessary to select an appropriate initial damping model and hysteretic model. In the linear region, the setting of initial damping model influences the response, and in the nonlinear region, the combination of initial damping model and hysteretic model influences the response. However, the dynamic characteristics of structure in the nonlinear region remain unclear. In this paper, we studied the effect of setting of initial damping model and hysteretic model on the dynamic characteristics of structure. On initial damping model setting, Initial stiffness proportional, Tangent stiffness proportional, and Rayleigh-type were used. On hysteretic model setting, TAKEDA model and Normal-trilinear model were used. As a study method, dynamic analysis was performed using a lumped mass model of base-fixed. During analysis, the maximum acceleration of input earthquake motion was gradually increased from 1 to 600 gal. The dynamic characteristics were calculated using the ARX model. Then, the characteristics of 1st and 2nd natural frequency and 1st damping ratio were evaluated. Input earthquake motion was simulated wave that the Building Center of Japan has published. On the building model, an RC building with 30脳30m planes on each floor was assumed. The story height was 3m and the maximum height was 18m. Unit weight for each floor was 1.0t/m2. The building natural period was set to 0.36sec, and the initial stiffness of each floor was calculated by assuming the 1st mode to be an inverted triangle. First, we investigated the difference of the dynamic characteristics depending on the difference of initial damping model setting. With the increase in the maximum acceleration of the input earthquake motions, the 1st and 2nd natural frequency decreased, and the 1st damping ratio increased. Then, in the natural frequency, the difference due to initial damping model setting was small, but in the damping ratio, a significant difference was observed (Initial stiffness proportional鈮扲ayleigh type>Tangent stiffness proportional). The acceleration and the displacement of the earthquake response were largest in the tangent stiffness proportional. In the range where the acceleration response increased, the damping ratio was constant. In the range where the acceleration response was constant, the damping ratio increased. Next, we investigated the difference of the dynamic characteristics depending on the difference of hysteretic model setting. With the increase in the maximum acceleration of the input earthquake motions, the natural frequency decreased in TAKEDA model, but in Normal-trilinear model, the natural frequency didn鈥檛 change. The damping ratio in TAKEDA model was higher than that in Normal-trilinear model, although, both in TAKEDA model and Normal-trilinear model, the damping ratio increased. In conclusion, in initial damping model setting, the tangent stiffness proportional was evaluated the most. In the hysteretic model setting, TAKEDA model was more appreciated than the Normal-trilinear model in the nonlinear region. Our results would provide useful indicator on dynamic design. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20damping%20model" title="initial damping model">initial damping model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20ratio" title=" damping ratio"> damping ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20analysis" title=" dynamic analysis"> dynamic analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hysteretic%20model" title=" hysteretic model"> hysteretic model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20frequency" title=" natural frequency"> natural frequency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84895/estimation-of-the-effect-of-initial-damping-model-and-hysteretic-model-on-dynamic-characteristics-of-structure" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84895.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8636</span> Characteristics Influencing Response of a Base Isolated Building</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ounis%20Hadj%20Mohamed">Ounis Hadj Mohamed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ounis%20Abdelhafid"> Ounis Abdelhafid</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to illustrate the effect of damping on the response of a base-isolated building, a parametric study is led, taking into account the progressive variation of the damping ratio (10% to 30%) under different types of seismic excitations (near and far field). The dynamic characteristics of the feeding stage were characterized in terms of the modal stiffness, modal frequency and modal damping, which are assessed from the vibration tests. According to the experimental measurements, the actual preload of the linear guide modulus was found to deviate from the rated values as setting in factory. This may be due to the assemblage errors of guide modules. For the stage with linear guides, the dynamic stiffness was affected to change by the preload set on the rolling balls. The variation of the dynamic stiffness at first and second modes is 20.8 and 10.5%, respectively when the linear guide preload is adjusted from medium and high amount. But the modal damping ratio is reduced by 8.97 and 9.65%, respectively. For high-frequency mode, the modal stiffness increases by 171.2% and the damping ratio reduced by 34.4%. Current results demonstrate the importance in the determining the preloaded amount of linear guide modulus in practical application. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contact%20stiffness" title="contact stiffness">contact stiffness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feeding%20stage" title=" feeding stage"> feeding stage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear%20guides" title=" linear guides"> linear guides</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modal%20characteristics" title=" modal characteristics"> modal characteristics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pre-load" title=" pre-load"> pre-load</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51628/variations-of-the-modal-characteristics-of-the-feeding-stage-with-different-preloaded-linear-guide" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51628.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">430</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8634</span> Simulation of Particle Damping in Boring Tool Using Combined Particles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Chockalingam">S. In this study, Copper-Stainless steel (SS) particles were packed inside the boring tool which acts as a damper. Damper suppresses chatter generated during machining and also improves the machining efficiency of the tool with better slenderness ratio. In the first approach of particle damping, combined Cu-SS particles were packed inside the vibrating tool, whereas Copper and Stainless steel particles were selected separately and packed inside another tool and their effectiveness was analysed in this simulation. This study reveals that the efficiency of finite element simulation of the boring tools when equipped with particles such as copper, stainless steel and a combination of both. In this study, the newly modified boring tool holder with particle damping was simulated using ANSYS12.0 with and without particles. The aim of this study is to enhance the structural rigidity through particle damping thus avoiding the occurrence of resonance in the boring tool during machining. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=boring%20bar" title="boring bar">boring bar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copper-stainless%20steel" title=" copper-stainless steel"> copper-stainless steel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chatter" title=" chatter"> chatter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20damping" title=" particle damping"> particle damping</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28966/simulation-of-particle-damping-in-boring-tool-using-combined-particles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28966.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">461</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8633</span> Assessment Power and Oscillation Damping Using the POD Controller and Proposed FOD Controller</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tohid%20Rahimi">Tohid Rahimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yahya%20Naderi"> Yahya Naderi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Babak%20Yousefi"> Babak Yousefi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyed%20Hossein%20Hoseini"> Seyed Hossein Hoseini</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Today鈥檚 modern interconnected power system is highly complex in nature. In this, one of the most important requirements during the operation of the electric power system is the reliability and security. Power and frequency oscillation damping mechanism improve the reliability. Because of power system stabilizer (PSS) low speed response against of major fault such as three phase short circuit, FACTs devise that can control the network condition in very fast time, are becoming popular. However, FACTs capability can be seen in a major fault present when nonlinear models of FACTs devise and power system equipment are applied. To realize this aim, the model of multi-machine power system with FACTs controller is developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK using Sim Power System (SPS) blockiest. Among the FACTs device, Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) due to high speed changes its reactance characteristic inductive to capacitive, is effective power flow controller. Tuning process of controller parameter can be performed using different method. However, Genetic Algorithm (GA) ability tends to use it in controller parameter tuning process. In this paper, firstly POD controller is used to power oscillation damping. But in this station, frequency oscillation dos not has proper damping situation. Therefore, FOD controller that is tuned using GA is using that cause to damp out frequency oscillation properly and power oscillation damping has suitable situation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20oscillation%20damping%20%28POD%29" title="power oscillation damping (POD)">power oscillation damping (POD)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frequency%20oscillation%20damping%20%28FOD%29" title=" frequency oscillation damping (FOD)"> frequency oscillation damping (FOD)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Static%20synchronous%20series%20compensator%20%28SSSC%29" title=" Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC)"> Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Genetic%20Algorithm%20%28GA%29" title=" Genetic Algorithm (GA)"> Genetic Algorithm (GA)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18560/assessment-power-and-oscillation-damping-using-the-pod-controller-and-proposed-fod-controller" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18560.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">476</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8632</span> Correction Factors for Soil-Structure Interaction Predicted by Simplified Models: Axisymmetric 3D Model versus Fully 3D Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fu%20Jia">Fu Jia</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The effects of soil-structure interaction (SSI) are often studied using axial-symmetric three-dimensional (3D) models to avoid the high computational cost of the more realistic, fully 3D models, which require 2-3 orders of magnitude more computer time and storage. This paper analyzes the error and presents correction factors for system frequency, system damping, and peak amplitude of structural response computed by axisymmetric models, embedded in uniform or layered half-space. The results are compared with those for fully 3D rectangular foundations of different aspect ratios. Correction factors are presented for a range of the model parameters, such as fixed-base frequency, structure mass, height and length-to-width ratio, foundation embedment, soil-layer stiffness and thickness. It is shown that the errors are larger for stiffer, taller and heavier structures, deeper foundations and deeper soil layer. For example, for a stiff structure like Millikan Library (NS response; length-to-width ratio 1), the error is 6.5% in system frequency, 49% in system damping and 180% in peak amplitude. Analysis of a case study shows that the NEHRP-2015 provisions for reduction of base shear force due to SSI effects may be unsafe for some structures and need revision. The presented correction factor diagrams can be used in practical design and other applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20soil-structure%20interaction" title="3D soil-structure interaction">3D soil-structure interaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=correction%20factors%20for%20axisymmetric%20models" title=" correction factors for axisymmetric models"> correction factors for axisymmetric models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=length-to-width%20ratio" title=" length-to-width ratio"> length-to-width ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NEHRP-2015%20provisions%20for%20reduction%20of%20base%20shear%20force" title=" NEHRP-2015 provisions for reduction of base shear force"> NEHRP-2015 provisions for reduction of base shear force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rectangular%20embedded%20foundations" title=" rectangular embedded foundations"> rectangular embedded foundations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SSI%20system%20frequency" title=" SSI system frequency"> SSI system frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SSI%20system%20damping" title=" SSI system damping"> SSI system damping</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94246/correction-factors-for-soil-structure-interaction-predicted-by-simplified-models-axisymmetric-3d-model-versus-fully-3d-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94246.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">266</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8631</span> Experimental and Theoratical Methods to Increase Core Damping for Sandwitch Cantilever Beam</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iyd%20Eqqab%20Maree">Iyd Eqqab Maree</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Moouyad%20Ibrahim%20Abbood"> Moouyad Ibrahim Abbood </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose behind this study is to predict damping effect for steel cantilever beam by using two methods of passive viscoelastic constrained layer damping. First method is Matlab Program, this method depend on the Ross, Kerwin and Unger (RKU) model for passive viscoelastic damping. Second method is experimental lab (frequency domain method), in this method used the half-power bandwidth method and can be used to determine the system loss factors for damped steel cantilever beam. The RKU method has been applied to a cantilever beam because beam is a major part of a structure and this prediction may further leads to utilize for different kinds of structural application according to design requirements in many industries. In this method of damping a simple cantilever beam is treated by making sandwich structure to make the beam damp, and this is usually done by using viscoelastic material as a core to ensure the damping effect. The use of viscoelastic layers constrained between elastic layers is known to be effective for damping of flexural vibrations of structures over a wide range of frequencies. The energy dissipated in these arrangements is due to shear deformation in the viscoelastic layers, which occurs due to flexural vibration of the structures. The theory of dynamic stability of elastic systems deals with the study of vibrations induced by pulsating loads that are parametric with respect to certain forms of deformation. There is a very good agreement of the experimental results with the theoretical findings. The main ideas of this thesis are to find the transition region for damped steel cantilever beam (4mm and 8mm thickness) from experimental lab and theoretical prediction (Matlab R2011a). Experimentally and theoretically proved that the transition region for two specimens occurs at modal frequency between mode 1 and mode 2, which give the best damping, maximum loss factor and maximum damping ratio, thus this type of viscoelastic material core (3M468) is very appropriate to use in automotive industry and in any mechanical application has modal frequency eventuate between mode 1 and mode 2. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3M-468%20material%20core" title="3M-468 material core">3M-468 material core</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=loss%20factor%20and%20frequency" title=" loss factor and frequency"> loss factor and frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=domain%20method" title=" domain method"> domain method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioinformatics" title=" bioinformatics"> bioinformatics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomedicine" title=" biomedicine"> biomedicine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MATLAB" title=" MATLAB"> MATLAB</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9779/experimental-and-theoratical-methods-to-increase-core-damping-for-sandwitch-cantilever-beam" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/9779.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">271</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8630</span> Mean Square Responses of a Cantilever Beam with Various Damping Mechanisms</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yaping%20Zhao">Yaping Zhao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yimin%20Zhang"> Yimin Zhang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the present paper, the stationary random vibration of a uniform cantilever beam is investigated. Two types of damping mechanism, i.e. the external and internal viscous dampings, are taken into account simultaneously. The excitation form is the support motion, and it is ideal white. Because two type of damping mechanism are considered concurrently, the product of the modal damping ratio and the natural frequency is not a constant anymore. As a result, the infinite definite integral encountered in the process of computing the mean square response is more complex than that in the existing literature. One signal progress of this work is to have calculated these definite integrals accurately. The precise solution of the mean square response is thus obtained in the infinite series form finally. Numerical examples are supplied and the numerical outcomes acquired confirm the validity of the theoretical analyses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20vibration" title="random vibration">random vibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cantilever%20beam" title=" cantilever beam"> cantilever beam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mean%20square%20response" title=" mean square response"> mean square response</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=white%20noise" title=" white noise"> white noise</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13060/mean-square-responses-of-a-cantilever-beam-with-various-damping-mechanisms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13060.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">384</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8629</span> Energy Dissipation Characteristics of an Elastomer under Dynamic Condition: A Comprehensive Assessment Using High and Low Frequency Analyser</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=K.%20Anas">K. This heat generation is aspect energy dissipation. The present work investigates the contribution of various factors like; elastomer structure, cross link type and density, filler networking, reinforcement potential and temperature at energy dissipation mechanism. The influences of these elements are investigated using very high frequency analyzer (VHF ) and dynamical mechanical analysis(DMA).VHF follows transmissibility and vibration isolation principle whereas DMA works on dynamical mechanical deformation principle. VHF analysis of different types of elastomers reveals that elastomer can act as a transmitter or damper of energy depending on the applied frequency ratio (蠅/蠅n). Dynamic modulus (G') of low damping rubbers like natural rubber does not varies rapidly with frequency but vice-versa for high damping rubber like butyl rubber (IIR). VHF analysis also depicts that polysulfidic linkages has high damping ratio (味) than mono sulfidic linkages due to its dissipative nature. At comparable cross link density, mono sulfidic linkages shows higher glass transition temperature (Tg) than poly sulfidic linkages. The intensity and location of loss modulus (G'') peak of different types of carbon black filled natural rubber compounds suggests that segmental relaxation at glass transition temperature (Tg) is seldom affected by filler particles, but the filler networks can influence the cross link density by absorbing the curatives. The filler network breaking and reformation during a dynamic strain is a thermally activated process. Thus, stronger aggregates are highly dissipative in nature. Measurements indicate that at lower temperature regimes polymeric chain friction is highly dissipative in nature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20ratio" title="damping ratio">damping ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20frequency" title=" natural frequency"> natural frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crosslinking%20density" title=" crosslinking density"> crosslinking density</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=segmental%20motion" title=" segmental motion"> segmental motion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20activity" title=" surface activity"> surface activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dissipative" title=" dissipative"> dissipative</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polymeric%20chain%20friction" title=" polymeric chain friction"> polymeric chain friction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38171/energy-dissipation-characteristics-of-an-elastomer-under-dynamic-condition-a-comprehensive-assessment-using-high-and-low-frequency-analyser" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38171.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">295</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8628</span> Effect of Density on the Shear Modulus and Damping Ratio of Saturated Sand in Small Strain</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Kakavand">M. This oscillator shares the same overall (static) stiffness, the same mass and the same damping element with a reference classical linear SDOF oscillator. However, it differs from the original SDOF oscillator by appropriately redistributing the component spring stiffness elements and by re-allocating the damping element. Despite the fact that the proposed oscillator incorporates a negative stiffness element, it is designed to be both statically and dynamically stable. Once such an oscillator is optimally designed, it is shown to exhibit an extraordinary apparent damping ratio, which is even several orders of magnitude higher than that of the original SDOF system, especially in cases where the original damping of the SDOF system is low. This damping behavior is not a result of a novel additional extraordinary energy dissipation mechanism, but a result of the phase difference between the positive and the negative stiffness elastic forces, which is in turn a consequence of the proper re-distribution of the stiffness and the damper elements. This fact ensures that an adequate level of elastic forces exists throughout the entire frequency range, able to counteract the inertial and the excitation forces. Next, Acoustic or Phononic Meta-materials are considered, in which one atom is replaced by the concept of the above simple linear oscillator. The results indicate that not only the damping of the meta-material verifies and exceeds the one expected from the so-called "meta-damping" behavior, but also that the band gap of the meta-material can be significantly increased. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wave%20propagation" title="wave propagation">wave propagation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=periodic%20structures" title=" periodic structures"> periodic structures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wave%20damping" title=" wave damping"> wave damping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20engineering" title=" mechanical engineering"> mechanical engineering</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12429/drastic-increase-of-wave-dissipation-within-metastructures-having-negative-stiffness-inclusions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/12429.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">357</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8626</span> Proportionally Damped Finite Element State-Space Model of Composite Laminated Plate with Localized Interface Degeneration</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shi%20Qi%20Koo">Shi Qi Koo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmad%20Beng%20Hong%20Kueh"> Ahmad Beng Hong Kueh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the present work, the finite element formulation for the investigation of the effects of a localized interfacial degeneration on the dynamic behavior of the [90藲/0藲] laminated composite plate employing the state-space technique is performed. This includes an introduction of an interface layer adopting the virtually zero-thickness formulation to model the interfacial degeneration. Also, the kinematically consistent mass matrix and proportional damping have been formulated to complete the free vibration governing expression. To simulate the interfacial degeneration of the laminate, the degenerated areas are defined from the center propagating outwards in a localized manner. To resolve this problem, nonlinear vibration isolation technology has recently received increasing attentions. Shear thickening fluid (STF) is a special colloidal material. When STF is subject to high shear rate, it rheological property changes from a flowable behavior into a rigid behavior, i.e., it presents shear thickening effect. STF isolator is a vibration isolator using STF as working material. Because of shear thickening effect, STF isolator is a variable-damped isolator. It exhibits small damping under high vibration frequency and strong damping at resonance frequency due to shearing rate increasing. So its special inherent character is very favorable for vibration isolation, especially for restraining resonance. In this paper, firstly, STF was prepared by dispersing nano-particles of silica into polyethylene glycol 200 fluid, followed by rheological properties test. After that, an STF isolator was designed. The vibration isolation system supported by STF isolator was modeled, and the numerical simulation was conducted to study the vibration isolation properties of STF. And finally, the effect factors on vibrations isolation performance was also researched quantitatively. The research suggests that owing to its variable damping, STF vibration isolator can effetely restrain resonance without bringing unfavorable effect at high frequency, which meets the need of ideal damping properties and resolves the problem of traditional isolators. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20thickening%20fluid" title="shear thickening fluid">shear thickening fluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variable-damped%20isolator" title=" variable-damped isolator"> variable-damped isolator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vibration%20isolation" title=" vibration isolation"> vibration isolation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=restrain%20resonance" title=" restrain resonance"> restrain resonance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/101476/investigation-of-shear-thickening-fluid-isolator-with-vibration-isolation-performance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/101476.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">179</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8622</span> Variation of the Dynamic Characteristics of a Spindle with the Change of Bearing Preload</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shinji%20Oouchi">Shinji Oouchi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hajime%20Nomura"> Hajime Nomura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kung-Da%20Wu"> Kung-Da Wu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jui-Pin%20Hung"> Jui-Pin Hung</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents the variation of the dynamic characteristics of a spindle with the change of bearing preload. The correlations between the variation of bearing preload and fundamental modal parameters were first examined by conducting vibration tests on physical spindle units. Experimental measurements show that the dynamic compliance and damping ratio associated with the dominating modes were affected to vary with variation of the bearing preload. When the bearing preload was slightly deviated from a standard value, the modal frequency and damping ability also vary to different extent, which further enable the spindle to perform with different compliance. For the spindle used in this study, a standard preload value set on bearings would enable the spindle to behave a higher stiffness as compared with others with a preload variation. This characteristic can be served as a reference to examine the variation of bearing preload of spindle in assemblage or operation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20compliance" title="dynamic compliance">dynamic compliance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bearing%20preload" title=" bearing preload"> bearing preload</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modal%20damping" title=" modal damping"> modal damping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=standard%20preload" title=" standard preload"> standard preload</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15889/variation-of-the-dynamic-characteristics-of-a-spindle-with-the-change-of-bearing-preload" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15889.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">467</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8621</span> Anharmonic Behavior in BaTiO3: Investigation by Raman Spectroscopy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20D.%20Fontana">M. It has several ferroelectric properties that allow it to be a good material for electronic applications such as the design of ferroelectric memories and pyroelectric elements. In the present work, we report the analysis of temperature dependence of Raman frequency and damping of the A1 modes polarized along the FE c axis as well as the optical phonons E corresponding to the ionic motions in the plane normal to c. Measurements were carried out at different temperatures ranging from 298 to 408 K (tetragonal phase) within different scattering configurations. Spectroscopic parameters of BT have determined using a high resolution Raman spectrometer and a fitting program. All the first order frequency modes exhibit a quasi linear decrease as function of the temperature, except for the A1[TO1], E[TO2] and E[TO4] lines which reveal a parabolic dependence illustrating an anharmonic process. The phonon frequency downshifts and damping evolutions are interpreted in terms of normal volume expansion and third- and fourth-order anharmonic potentials. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BaTiO3" title="BaTiO3">BaTiO3</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Raman%20spectroscopy" title=" Raman spectroscopy"> Raman spectroscopy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frequency" title=" frequency"> frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping" title=" damping"> damping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anharmonic%20potential" title=" anharmonic potential"> anharmonic potential</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38444/anharmonic-behavior-in-batio3-investigation-by-raman-spectroscopy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38444.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">300</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8620</span> Dynamic Properties of Recycled Concrete Aggregate from Resonant Column Tests</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wojciech%20Sas">Wojciech Sas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emil%20Sob%C3%B3l"> Emil Sob贸l</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katarzyna%20Gabry%C5%9B"> Katarzyna Gabry艣</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrzej%20G%C5%82uchowski"> Andrzej G艂uchowski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alojzy%20Szyma%C5%84ski"> Alojzy Szyma艅ski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Depleting of natural resources is forcing the man to look for alternative construction materials. In the development process of new micromirror systems, assessing the extent of energy loss due to thermal damping accurately and predicting the performance of the system is very essential. In this paper, the depth of the thermal penetration layer at different eigenfrequencies and the temperature variation distributions surrounding a vibrating micromirror is analyzed. The thermal penetration depth corresponds to the thermal boundary layer in which energy is lost which is a measure of the thermal damping is found out. The energy is mainly dissipated in the thermal boundary layer and thickness of the layer is an important parameter. The detailed thermoacoustics is used to model the air domain surrounding the micromirror. The thickness of the boundary layer, temperature variations and thermal power dissipation are analyzed for a Si based torsional mode micromirror. It is found that thermal penetration depth decreases with eigenfrequency and hence operating the micromirror at higher frequencies is essential for reducing thermal damping. The temperature variations and thermal power dissipations at different eigenfrequencies are also analyzed. Both frequency-response and eigenfrequency analyses are done using COMSOL Multiphysics software. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eigen%20frequency%20analysis" title="Eigen frequency analysis">Eigen frequency analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micromirrors" title=" micromirrors"> micromirrors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20damping" title=" thermal damping"> thermal damping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermoacoustic%20interactions" title=" thermoacoustic interactions"> thermoacoustic interactions</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68224/analysis-of-thermal-damping-in-si-based-torsional-micromirrors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68224.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">365</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8618</span> The Effect of Mathematical Modeling of Damping on the Seismic Energy Demands</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Selamawit%20Dires">Selamawit Dires</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Solomon%20Tesfamariam"> Solomon Tesfamariam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20Tannert"> Thomas Tannert</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Modern earthquake engineering and design encompass performance-based design philosophy. The main objective in performance-based design is to achieve a system performing precisely to meet the design objectives so to reduce unintended seismic risks and associated losses. Energy-based earthquake-resistant design is one of the design methodologies that can be implemented in performance-based earthquake engineering. In energy-based design, the seismic demand is usually described as the ratio of the hysteretic to input energy. Once the hysteretic energy is known as a percentage of the input energy, it is distributed among energy-dissipating components of a structure. The hysteretic to input energy ratio is highly dependent on the inherent damping of a structural system.聽In numerical analysis, damping can be modeled as stiffness-proportional, mass-proportional, or a linear combination of stiffness and mass. In this study, the effect of mathematical modeling of damping on the estimation of seismic energy demands is investigated by considering elastic-perfectly-plastic single-degree-of-freedom systems representing short to long period structures. Furthermore, the seismicity of Vancouver, Canada, is used in the nonlinear time history analysis. According to the preliminary results, the input energy demand is not sensitive to the type of damping models deployed. Hence, consistent results are achieved regardless of the damping models utilized in the numerical analyses. On the other hand, the hysteretic to input energy ratios vary significantly for the different damping models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping" title="damping">damping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy-based%20seismic%20design" title=" energy-based seismic design"> energy-based seismic design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hysteretic%20energy" title=" hysteretic energy"> hysteretic energy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=input%20energy" title=" input energy"> input energy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111458/the-effect-of-mathematical-modeling-of-damping-on-the-seismic-energy-demands" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111458.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">168</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8617</span> Second Order Statistics of Dynamic Response of Structures Using Gamma Distributed Damping Parameters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Badreddine%20Chemali">Badreddine Chemali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Boualem%20Tiliouine"> Boualem Tiliouine</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This article presents the main results of a numerical investigation on the uncertainty of dynamic response of structures with statistically correlated random damping Gamma distributed. The significance of random damping with correlated parameters and its implications on the sensitivity of structural peak response in the neighborhood of a resonant frequency are discussed in light of considerable ranges of damping uncertainties and correlation coefficients. The results are compared to those generated using Monte Carlo simulation techniques. These vibrations are transmitted through soil and cause disturbances to the residence area and high-tech production facilities alongside the train/traffic lines. In this paper for the first time a new method of soil improvement with vibration absorber material, is used to increase the damping factor, in other word, to reduce the ability of wave transitions in sand. In this study standard Firoozkooh No. 161 sand is used as the host sand. The semi rigid polyurethane (PU) foam which used in this research is one of the common materials for vibration absorbing purposes. Series of cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on remolded samples with identical relative density of 70% of maximum dry density for different volume percentage of shredded PU foam. The frequency of tests was 0.1 Htz with shear strain of 0.37% and 0.75% and also the effective confining pressures during the tests were 100 kPa and 350 kPa. In order to find out the best soil-PU foam mixture, different volume percent of PU foam varying from 10% to 30% were examined. The results show that adding PU foam up to 20%, as its optimum content, causes notable enhancement in damping ratio for both shear strains of 0.37% (52.19% and 69% increase for effective confining pressures of 100 kPa and 350 kPa, respectively) and 0.75% (59.56% and 59.11% increase for effective confining pressures of 100 kPa and 350 kPa, respectively). The results related to shear modulus present significant reduction for both shear strains of 0.37% (82.22% and 56.03% decrease for effective confining pressures of 100 kPa and 350 kPa, respectively) and 0.75% (89.32% and 39.9% decrease for effective confining pressures of 100 kPa and 350 kPa, respectively). In conclusion, shredded PU foams effectively affect the dynamic properties of sand and act as vibration absorber in soil. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyurethane%20foam" title="polyurethane foam">polyurethane foam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sand" title=" sand"> sand</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20ratio" title=" damping ratio"> damping ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shear%20modulus" title=" shear modulus"> shear modulus</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37173/the-effect-of-shredded-polyurethane-foams-on-shear-modulus-and-damping-ratio-of-sand" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37173.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">449</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8615</span> Issues on Optimizing the Structural Parameters of the Induction Converter</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marinka%20K.%20Baghdasaryan">Marinka K. In order to analytically solve such a complicated vibration model, either the inertia terms were neglected, in the model designated as geometrical, or restrictions on the creep coefficients and yawing diameter were imposed, in the so-called dynamical model. Here, an alternative solution is proposed to solve the hunting mode, based on the observation that the bullet train wheel axle is equipped with cylindrical wheels. One argues that for such wheel treads, the geometrical hunting is irrelevant, since its natural frequency becomes nil, but the dynamical hunting is significant since its natural frequency reduces to a real number. Moreover, one illustrates that the geometrical simplification of the wheel causes the stabilization of the hunting mode, since the characteristic quartic equation, derived for conical wheels, reduces to a quadratic equation of positive coefficients, for cylindrical wheels. Quite simple analytical expressions for the damping ratio and natural frequency are obtained, without applying restrictions into the model of contact. Graphs of the time-depending hunting lateral perturbation, including the maximal and inflexion points, are presented both for the critically-damped and the over-damped wheel axles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bullet%20train" title="bullet train">bullet train</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=creep" title=" creep"> creep</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cylindrical%20wheels" title=" cylindrical wheels"> cylindrical wheels</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping" title=" damping"> damping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamical%20hunting" title=" dynamical hunting"> dynamical hunting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stability" title=" stability"> stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vibration%20analysis" title=" vibration analysis"> vibration analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96999/damping-and-stability-evaluation-for-the-dynamical-hunting-motion-of-the-bullet-train-wheel-axle-equipped-with-cylindrical-wheel-treads" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96999.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">153</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">8613</span> Signal On-Off Ratio and Output Frequency Analysis of Semiconductor Electron-Interference Device</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomotaka%20Aoki">Tomotaka Aoki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Isao%20Tomita"> Isao Tomita</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We examined the on-off ratio and frequency components of output signals from an electron-interference device made of GaAs/Al鈧揋a鈧佲倠鈧揂s by solving the time-dependent Schr枚dinger's equation on conducting electrons in the channel waveguide of the device. For electron-wave modulation, a periodic voltage of frequency f was applied to the channel. An approach is presented for selection of Rayleigh damping coefficients to be used in seismic analyses to produce a response that is consistent with Modal damping response. In the presented approach, the expression of the error of peak response, acquired through complete quadratic combination method, and Rayleigh damping coefficients was set up and then the coefficients were produced by minimizing the error. Two finite element modes of soil layers, excited by 28 seismic waves, were used to demonstrate the feasibility and validity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
