In the benchmark scenario, the operation of the reactor must be guaranteed under various disturbing influences, e.g., changing ambient temperatures or impurity of the monomer. Such a process usually controlled by conventional cascade control, it provides a robust operation, but often lacks accuracy concerning the required strict temperature tolerances. The predictive control strategy based on the RBF neural model is applied to solve this problem to achieve set-point tracking of the reactor temperature against disturbances. The result shows that the RBF based model predictive control gives reliable result in the presence of some disturbances and keeps the reactor temperature within a tight tolerance range around the desired reaction temperature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chylla-Haase%20reactor" title="Chylla-Haase reactor">Chylla-Haase reactor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RBF%20neural%20network%20modelling" title=" RBF neural network modelling"> RBF neural network modelling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=model%20predictive%20control" title=" model predictive control"> model predictive control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semi-batch%20reactors" title=" semi-batch reactors"> semi-batch reactors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11884/rbf-modelling-and-optimization-control-for-semi-batch-reactors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11884.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">468</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> An Integrated Approach to Assessing Urban Nature as an Indicator to Mitigate Urban Heat Island Effect: A Case Study of Lahore, Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Nasar-u-Minallah">Muhammad Nasar-u-Minallah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dagmar%20Haase"> Dagmar Haase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salman%20Qureshi"> Salman Qureshi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Rapid urbanization significantly change land use, urban nature, land surface vegetation cover, and heat distribution, leading to the formation of urban heat island (UHI) effect and affecting the healthy growth of cities and the comfort of human living style. Past information and present changes in Land Surface Temperature (LST) and urban landscapes could be useful to geographers, environmentalists, and urban planners in an attempt to shape the urban development process and mitigate the effects of urban heat islands (UHI). This study aims at using Satellite Remote Sensing (SRS) and GIS techniques to develop an approach for assessing the urban nature and UHI effects in Lahore, Pakistan. The study employed the Radiative Transfer Method (RTM) in estimating LST to assess the SUHI effect during the interval of 20 years (2000-2020). The assessment was performed by the available Landsat 7/ETM+ and Landsat 8/OIL_TIRs data for the years 2000, 2010, and 2020 respectively. Pearson’s correlation and normalized mutual information were applied to investigate the relationship between green space characteristics and LST. The result of this work revealed that the influence of urban heat island is not always at the city centers but sometimes in the outskirt where a lot of development activities were going on towards the direction of expansion of Lahore, Pakistan. The present study explores the usage of image processing and spatial analysis in the drive towards achieving urban greening of Lahore and a sustainable urban environment in terms of urban planning, policy, and decision making and promoting the healthy and sustainable urban environment of the city. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20nature" title="urban nature">urban nature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20heat%20islands" title=" urban heat islands"> urban heat islands</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20green%20space" title=" urban green space"> urban green space</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=land%20use" title=" land use"> land use</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lahore" title=" Lahore"> Lahore</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148419/an-integrated-approach-to-assessing-urban-nature-as-an-indicator-to-mitigate-urban-heat-island-effect-a-case-study-of-lahore-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148419.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">116</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13</span> Dynamic Fault Diagnosis for Semi-Batch Reactor Under Closed-Loop Control via Independent RBFNN</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkarim%20M.%20Ertiame">Abdelkarim M. The scheme employs a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) in an independent mode to model the process dynamics and using the weighted sum-squared prediction error as the residual. The recursive orthogonal Least Squares algorithm (ROLS) is employed to train the model to overcome the training difficulty of the independent mode of the network. Then, another RBFNN is used as a fault classifier to isolate faults from different features involved in the residual vector. The several actuator and sensor faults are simulated in a nonlinear simulation of the reactor in Simulink. The scheme is used to detect and isolate the faults on-line. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the scheme even the process is subjected to disturbances and uncertainties including significant changes in the monomer feed rate, fouling factor, impurity factor, ambient temperature and measurement noise. The simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Robust%20fault%20detection" title="Robust fault detection">Robust fault detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cascade%20control" title=" cascade control"> cascade control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=independent%20RBF%20model" title=" independent RBF model"> independent RBF model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RBF%20neural%20networks" title=" RBF neural networks"> RBF neural networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chylla-Haase%20reactor" title=" Chylla-Haase reactor"> Chylla-Haase reactor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FDI%20under%20closed-loop%20control" title=" FDI under closed-loop control"> FDI under closed-loop control</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34308/dynamic-fault-diagnosis-for-semi-batch-reactor-under-closed-loop-control-via-independent-rbfnn" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34308.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">498</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Analyzing Land use change and its impacts on the Urban Environment in a Fast Growing Metropolitan City of Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Nasar-u-Minallah">Muhammad Nasar-u-Minallah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dagmar%20Haase"> Dagmar Haase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salman%20Qureshi"> Salman Qureshi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In a rapidly growing developing country cities are becoming more urbanized leading to modifications in urban climate. Rapid urbanization, especially unplanned urban land expansion, together with climate change has a profound impact on the urban settlement and urban thermal environment. Cities, particularly Pakistan are facing remarkably environmental issues and uneven development, and thus it is important to strengthen the investigation of urban environmental pressure brought by land-use changes and urbanization. The present study investigated the long term modification of the urban environment by urbanization utilizing Spatio-temporal dynamics of land-use change, urban population data, urban heat islands, monthly maximum, and minimum temperature of thirty years, multi remote sensing imageries, and spectral indices such as Normalized Difference Built-up Index and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index. The results indicate rapid growth in an urban built-up area and a reduction in vegetation cover in the last three decades (1990-2020). A positive correlation between urban heat islands and Normalized Difference Built-up Index, whereas a negative correlation between urban heat islands and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index clearly shows how urbanization is affecting the local environment. The increase in air and land surface temperature temperatures is dangerous to human comfort. Practical approaches, such as increasing the urban green spaces and proper planning of the cities, have been suggested to help prevent further modification of the urban thermal environment by urbanization. The findings of this work are thus important for multi-sectorial use in the cities of Pakistan. By taking into consideration these results, the urban planners, decision-makers, and local government can make different policies to mitigate the urban land use impacts on the urban thermal environment in Pakistan. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=land%20use" title="land use">land use</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20environment" title=" urban environment"> urban environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=local%20climate" title=" local climate"> local climate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lahore" title=" Lahore"> Lahore</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148915/analyzing-land-use-change-and-its-impacts-on-the-urban-environment-in-a-fast-growing-metropolitan-city-of-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148915.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">111</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">11</span> Evaluating the Impact of Urban Green Spaces on Urban Microclimate of Lahore: A Rapidly Urbanizing Metropolis of the Punjab-Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Nasar-U-Minallah">Muhammad Nasar-U-Minallah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dagmar%20Haase"> Dagmar Haase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salman%20Qureshi"> Salman Qureshi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Safdar%20Ali%20Shirazi"> Safdar Ali Shirazi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Urban green spaces (UGS) play a key role in the urban ecology of an area since they provide significant ecological services to compensate for natural environment functions damaged by the rapid growth of urbanization. The transformation of urban green specs to impervious landscapes has been recognized as a key factor prompting the distinctive urban heat and associated microclimatic changes. There is no doubt that urban green spaces offer a range of ecosystem services that can help to mitigate the ill effects of urbanization, heat anomalies, and climate change. The present study attempts to appraise the impact of urban green spaces on the urban thermal environment for the development of the microclimatic conditions in Lahore, Pakistan. The influence of urban heat has been studied through Landsat 8 data. The land surface temperature (LST) of Lahore was computed through the Radiative transfer method (RTM). The spatial variation of land surface temperature is retrieved to describe their local heat effect on urban microclimate. The association between the LST, normalized difference vegetation index, and the normalized difference built-up index are investigated to explore the impact of the urban green spaces and impervious surfaces on urban microclimate. The results of this study show significant changes in (impervious land surface 18% increase) land use within the study area. However, conversion of natural green cover to commercial and residential uses considerably increases the LST. Furthermore, results show that green spaces were the major heat sinks while impervious landscapes were the major heat source in the study area. Urban green spaces reveal 1 to 3℃ lower LST associated with their surrounding urban built-up area. This study shows that urban green spaces will help to mitigate the effect of urban microclimate and it is significant for the sustainable urban environment as well as to improve the quality of life of the urban inhabitants. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20environmental" title="thermal environmental">thermal environmental</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20green%20space" title=" urban green space"> urban green space</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cooling%20effect" title=" cooling effect"> cooling effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microclimate" title=" microclimate"> microclimate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lahore" title=" Lahore"> Lahore</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148868/evaluating-the-impact-of-urban-green-spaces-on-urban-microclimate-of-lahore-a-rapidly-urbanizing-metropolis-of-the-punjab-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148868.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">106</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">10</span> Teaching Students Collaborative Requirements Engineering: Case Study of Red:Wire</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dagmar%20Monett">Dagmar Monett</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sven-Erik%20Kujat"> Sven-Erik Kujat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marvin%20Hartmann"> Marvin Hartmann</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper discusses the use of a template-based approach for documenting high-quality requirements as part of course projects in an undergraduate Software Engineering course. A neural network inverse model is used to estimate the valve position of the reactor; this method can identify the controlled system with the RBF neural network identifier. The weights of the adaptive PID controller are timely adjusted based on the identification of the plant and self-learning capability of RBFNN. A PID controller is used in the feedback control to regulate the actual temperature by compensating the neural network inverse model output. Simulation results show that the proposed control has strong adaptability, robustness and satisfactory control performance and the nonlinear system is achieved. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chylla-Haase%20polymerization%20reactor" title="Chylla-Haase polymerization reactor">Chylla-Haase polymerization reactor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RBF%20neural%20networks" title=" RBF neural networks"> RBF neural networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feed-forward" title=" feed-forward"> feed-forward</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feedback%20control" title=" feedback control"> feedback control</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11204/nonlinear-adaptive-pid-control-for-a-semi-batch-reactor-based-on-an-rbf-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11204.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">702</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> Mechanical Properties of Recycled Plasticized PVB/PVC Blends</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Tup%C3%BD">Michael Tupý</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dagmar%20M%C4%9B%C5%99%C3%ADnsk%C3%A1"> Dagmar Měřínská</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alice%20Tesa%C5%99%C3%ADkov%C3%A1-Svobodov%C3%A1"> Alice Tesaříková-Svobodová</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christian%20Carrot"> Christian Carrot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caroline%20Pillon"> Caroline Pillon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=V%C3%ADt%20Petr%C3%A1nek"> Vít Petránek</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The mechanical properties of blends consisting of plasticized poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) and plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) are studied, in order to evaluate the possibility of using recycled PVB waste derived from windshields. Detection of specific maladaptive personality traits can help us understand the manner of behavior leading to obesity as well as to address the treatment better. Objective: Using The Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) in combination with clinical interviews with the goal of gaining a psychological evaluation to set the treatment procedure. Data was collected from more than 400 patients to detect differences in constellations of maladaptive personality traits based on BMI, DM2 and gender. Conclusions: Besides the fact that a psychological evaluation can help address the treatment better, analyses showed that it is also useful to detect specific groups of patients. Implications for clinical practice are discussed, as well as recommendations for group education programs based on quantitative research. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bariatric%20surgery" title="bariatric surgery">bariatric surgery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=obesity" title=" obesity"> obesity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=personality%20traits" title=" personality traits"> personality traits</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PID-5" title=" PID-5"> PID-5</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=treatment" title=" treatment"> treatment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144165/the-role-of-maladaptive-personality-traits-in-obesity-treatment-quantitative-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/144165.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">228</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Development of Value Productivity in Automotive Industry</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ji%C5%99%C3%AD%20Kle%C4%8Dka">Jiří Klečka</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dagmar%20%C4%8C%C3%A1msk%C3%A1"> Dagmar Čámská</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper is focused on the investigation of productivity (total productivity and partial productivity). The value productivity is an indicator of level and changes in technical economic efficiency of production factors. It represents an important factor in achieving corporate objectives. This text works with the contemporary concept of value productivity that means that indicators of the productivity express the effect of economic efficiency not only of inputs consumption, but also of inputs binding efficiency. This approach is based on principles of the economic profit, respectively the economic value added (EVA). The research is done on the sample of Czech enterprises operating in the automotive industry in the regions of Liberec and the Central Bohemia. The data sample covers the time period 2006-2011 which allows the comparison of development before crisis and during crisis period. It enables to discover the companies' reaction during crises and the regional comparison allows to showing if there are significant differences between regions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=automotive%20industry" title="automotive industry">automotive industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Czech%20Republic" title=" Czech Republic"> Czech Republic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic%20efficiency" title=" economic efficiency"> economic efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regional%20comparison" title=" regional comparison"> regional comparison</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=value%20productivity" title=" value productivity "> value productivity </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1272/development-of-value-productivity-in-automotive-industry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1272.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">290</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Photocaged Carbohydrates: Versatile Tools for Biotechnological Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claus%20Bier">Claus Bier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dennis%20Binder"> Dennis Binder</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexander%20Gruenberger"> Alexander Gruenberger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dagmar%20Drobietz"> Dagmar Drobietz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dietrich%20Kohlheyer"> Dietrich Kohlheyer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anita%20Loeschcke"> Anita Loeschcke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karl%20Erich%20Jaeger"> Karl Erich Jaeger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20Drepper"> Thomas Drepper</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joerg%20Pietruszka"> Joerg Pietruszka</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Light absorbing chromophoric systems are important optogenetic tools for biotechnical and biophysical investigations. Processes such as fluorescence or photolysis can be triggered by light-absorption of chromophores. These play a central role in life science. Photocaged compounds belong to such chromophoric systems. The photo-labile protecting groups enable them to release biologically active substances with high temporal and spatial resolution. The properties of photocaged compounds are specified by the characteristics of the caging group as well as the characteristics of the linked effector molecule. In our research, we work with different types of photo-labile protecting groups and various effector molecules giving us possible access to a large library of caged compounds. As a function of the caged effector molecule, a nearly limitless number of biological systems can be directed. Our main interest focusses on photocaging carbohydrates (e.g. arabinose) and their derivatives as effector molecules. Based on these resulting photocaged compounds a precisely controlled photoinduced gene expression will give us access to studies of numerous biotechnological and synthetic biological applications. It could be shown, that the regulation of gene expression via light is possible with photocaged carbohydrates achieving a higher-order control over this processes. With the one-step cleavable photocaged carbohydrate, a homogeneous expression was achieved in comparison to free carbohydrates. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bacterial%20gene%20expression" title="bacterial gene expression">bacterial gene expression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biotechnology" title=" biotechnology"> biotechnology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=caged%20compounds" title=" caged compounds"> caged compounds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carbohydrates" title=" carbohydrates"> carbohydrates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optogenetics" title=" optogenetics"> optogenetics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photo-removable%20protecting%20group" title=" photo-removable protecting group"> photo-removable protecting group</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55557/photocaged-carbohydrates-versatile-tools-for-biotechnological-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55557.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">227</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> Development of an Experiment for Impedance Measurement of Structured Sandwich Sheet Metals by Using a Full Factorial Multi-Stage Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Florian%20Vincent%20Haase">Florian Vincent Haase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adrian%20Dierl"> Adrian Dierl</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anna%20Henke"> Anna Henke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ralf%20Woll"> Ralf Woll</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ennes%20Sarradj"> Ennes Sarradj</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Structured sheet metals and structured sandwich sheet metals are three-dimensional, lightweight structures with increased stiffness which are used in the automotive industry. The impedance, a figure of resistance of a structure to vibrations, will be determined regarding plain sheets, structured sheets, and structured sandwich sheets. The aim of this paper is generating an experimental design in order to minimize costs and duration of experiments. The design of experiments will be used to reduce the large number of single tests required for the determination of correlation between the impedance and its influencing factors. Full and fractional factorials are applied in order to systematize and plan the experiments. Their major advantages are high quality results given the relatively small number of trials and their ability to determine the most important influencing factors including their specific interactions. The developed full factorial experimental design for the study of plain sheets includes three factor levels. In contrast to the study of plain sheets, the respective impedance analysis used on structured sheets and structured sandwich sheets should be split into three phases. The first phase consists of preliminary tests which identify relevant factor levels. These factor levels are subsequently employed in main tests, which have the objective of identifying complex relationships between the parameters and the reference variable. Possible post-tests can follow up in case additional study of factor levels or other factors are necessary. By using full and fractional factorial experimental designs, the required number of tests is reduced by half. In the context of this paper, the benefits from the application of design for experiments are presented. Furthermore, a multistage approach is shown to take into account unrealizable factor combinations and minimize experiments. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structured%20sheet%20metals" title="structured sheet metals">structured sheet metals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structured%20sandwich%20sheet%20metals" title=" structured sandwich sheet metals"> structured sandwich sheet metals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impedance%20measurement" title=" impedance measurement"> impedance measurement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20of%20experiment" title=" design of experiment"> design of experiment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47479/development-of-an-experiment-for-impedance-measurement-of-structured-sandwich-sheet-metals-by-using-a-full-factorial-multi-stage-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47479.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">375</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Changes in Serum Hepcidin Levels in Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease during Anti-Inflammatory Treatment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eva%20Karaskova">Eva Karaskova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jana%20Volejnikova"> Jana Volejnikova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dusan%20Holub"> Dusan Holub</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maria%20Velganova-Veghova"> Maria Velganova-Veghova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michaela%20Spenerova"> Michaela Spenerova</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dagmar%20Pospisilova"> Dagmar Pospisilova</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Hepcidin is the central regulator of iron metabolism. Its production is mainly affected by an iron deficiency and the presence of inflammatory activity in the body. The aim of this study was to compare serum hepcidin levels in paediatric patients with newly diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease and hepcidin levels during maintenance therapy, correlate changes of serum hepcidin levels with selected markers of iron metabolism and inflammation and type of provided treatment. Methods: Children with newly diagnosed Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) were included in this prospective study. Blood and stool samples were collected before treatment (baseline). Serum hepcidin, hemoglobin levels, platelet counts, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL 6), ferritin, iron, soluble transferrin receptors, and fecal calprotectin were assessed. The same parameters were measured and compared with the baseline levels in the follow-up period, during maintenance therapy (average of 39 months after diagnosis). Results: Patients with CD (n=30) had higher serum hepcidin levels (expressed as a median and interquartile range) at diagnosis than subjects with UC (n=13). These levels significantly decreased during the follow-up (from 36.5 (11.5-79.6) ng/ml to 2.1 (0.9-6.7) ng/ml). Contrarily, no significant serum hepcidin level changes were observed in UC (from 5.4 (3.4-16.6) ng/ml to 4.8 (0.9-8.1) ng/ml). While in children with CD hepcidin level dynamics correlated with disease activity and inflammatory markers (ESR, CRP), an only correlation with serum iron levels was observed in patients with UC. Conclusion: Children with CD had higher serum hepcidin levels at diagnosis compared to subjects with UC. Decrease of serum hepcidin in the CD group during anti-inflammatory therapy has been observed, whereas low hepcidin levels in children with UC have remained unchanged.
