However, recent security warnings from the US Department of Homeland security are prompting us to discontinue support for Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8).</p> <p>To be clear, the Visual Thesaurus itself has never been identified as a security threat, but in order to support the Visual Thesaurus on IE 8, we use a technology called a Java Applet that has recently been identified as a potential threat.</p> <p>In the past few months, a number of very serious security holes have been found in Java which have been used by attackers to exploit major organizations world-wide. Because of this, the Department of Homeland security has taken the unusual step of recommending that all users uninstall or disable the Java plugin on their computers.</p> <p>We agree that using the Java plugin poses an above average security threat. The latest version of the Visual Thesaurus does not use Java and is supported on all modern browsers, including:</p> <ul> <li>Internet Explorer 9 and 10</li> <li>Chrome (all versions)</li> <li>Firefox (all versions)</li> <li>Safari (all versions)</li> </ul> <p>If you are using one of the browsers above, you do not need to take any action.
