otherwise<MH6435> we will be scattered<MH6327a> abroad over<MH5921> the face<MH6440> of all<MH3605> the earth<MH776>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Now the LORD<MH3068> came<MH3381> down<MH3381> to see<MH7200> the city<MH5892b> and the tower<MH4026> which<MH834> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>men<MH120> had built<MH1129>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559>, “Behold<MH2005>, they are one<MH259> people<MH5971a>, and they all<MH3605> have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>the same<MH259> language<MH8193>. And this<MH2088> is what they have started<MH2490c> to do<MH6213a>, and now<MH6258> nothing<MH3808, 3605> which<MH834> they plan<MH2161> to do<MH6213a> will be<MH1219> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>impossible<MH1219> for them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Come<MH3051>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>let Us go<MH3381> down<MH3381> and there<MH8033> confuse<MH1101a> their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>language<MH8193>, so<MH834> that<MH834> they will not understand<MH8085> one<MH376> another’s<MH7453> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>speech<MH8193>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>So the LORD<MH3068> scattered<MH6327a> them abroad from there<MH8033> over<MH5921> the face<MH6440> of all<MH3605> the earth<MH776>; and they stopped<MH2308> building<MH1129> the city<MH5892b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Therefore<MH5921, 3651> it was named<MH7121, 8034> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>Babel<MH894>, because<MH3588> there<MH8033> the LORD<MH3068> confused<MH1101a> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>language<MH8193> of all<MH3605> the earth<MH776>; and from there<MH8033> the LORD<MH3068> scattered<MH6327a> them abroad over<MH5921> the face<MH6440> of all<MH3605> the earth<MH776>. <p class="hdg">Descendants of Shem</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>These<MH428> are <i>the records of</i> the generations<MH8435> of Shem<MH8035>. Shem<MH8035> was a hundred<MH3967> years<MH8141> old<MH1121> when he fathered<MH3205> Arpachshad<MH775>, two years<MH8141> after<MH310> the flood<MH3999>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>and Shem<MH8035> lived<MH2421a> five<MH2568> hundred<MH3967> years<MH8141> after<MH310> he fathered<MH3205> Arpachshad<MH775>, and he fathered<MH3205> <i>other</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Arpachshad<MH775> lived<MH2421a> thirty-five<MH7970, 2568> years<MH8141>, and fathered<MH3205> Shelah<MH7974>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>and Arpachshad<MH775> lived<MH2421a> 403<MH702, 3967, 7969> years<MH8141> after<MH310> he fathered<MH3205> Shelah<MH7974>, and he fathered<MH3205> <i>other</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Shelah<MH7974> lived<MH2421a> thirty<MH7970> years<MH8141>, and fathered<MH3205> Eber<MH5677>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>and Shelah<MH7974> lived<MH2421a> 403<MH702, 3967, 7969> years<MH8141> after<MH310> he fathered<MH3205> Eber<MH5677>, and he fathered<MH3205> <i>other</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Eber<MH5677> lived<MH2421a> thirty-four<MH7970, 702> years<MH8141>, and fathered<MH3205> Peleg<MH6389>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>and Eber<MH5677> lived<MH2421a> 430<MH702, 3967, 7970> years<MH8141> after<MH310> he fathered<MH3205> Peleg<MH6389>, and he fathered<MH3205> <i>other</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Peleg<MH6389> lived<MH2421a> thirty<MH7970> years<MH8141>, and fathered<MH3205> Reu<MH7466a>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>and Peleg<MH6389> lived<MH2421a> 209<MH3967, 8672> years<MH8141> after<MH310> he fathered<MH3205> Reu<MH7466a>, and he fathered<MH3205> <i>other</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Reu<MH7466a> lived<MH2421a> thirty-two<MH7970, 8147> years<MH8141>, and fathered<MH3205> Serug<MH8286>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>and Reu<MH7466a> lived<MH2421a> 207<MH3967, 7651> years<MH8141> after<MH310> he fathered<MH3205> Serug<MH8286>, and he fathered<MH3205> <i>other</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Serug<MH8286> lived<MH2421a> thirty<MH7970> years<MH8141>, and fathered<MH3205> Nahor<MH5152>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>and Serug<MH8286> lived<MH2421a> two hundred<MH3967> years<MH8141> after<MH310> he fathered<MH3205> Nahor<MH5152>, and he fathered<MH3205> <i>other</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Nahor<MH5152> lived<MH2421a> twenty-nine<MH6242, 8672> years<MH8141>, and fathered<MH3205> Terah<MH8646>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>and Nahor<MH5152> lived<MH2421a> 119<MH3967, 8672, 6240> years<MH8141> after<MH310> he fathered<MH3205> Terah<MH8646>, and he fathered<MH3205> <i>other</i> sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Terah<MH8646> lived<MH2421a> seventy<MH7657> years<MH8141>, and fathered<MH3205> Abram<MH87>, Nahor<MH5152>, and Haran<MH2039>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Now these<MH428> are <i>the records of</i> the generations<MH8435> of Terah<MH8646>. Terah<MH8646> fathered<MH3205> Abram<MH87>, Nahor<MH5152>, and Haran<MH2039>; and Haran<MH2039> fathered<MH3205> Lot<MH3876>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Haran<MH2039> died<MH4191> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>during the lifetime<MH6440> of his father<MH1> Terah<MH8646> in the land<MH776> of his birth<MH4138>, in Ur<MH218a> of the Chaldeans<MH3778>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/11-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Abram<MH87> and Nahor<MH5152> took<MH3947> wives<MH802> for themselves.
