href="/sport/golf/156891/rory-mcilroy-us-open-Bryson-DeChambeau" target="_blank">frustrated by the constant reminders of past errors</a> and the sting of narrowly missing another US Open title. The golf icon has been a top-10 mainstay since 2009 and a shining light for European golf for almost fifteen years with achievements like FedEx Cup triumphs, <a data-link-tracking="InArticle|Link" href="/latest/ryder-cup" target="_blank">Ryder Cup</a> wins, and numerous European and <a data-link-tracking="InArticle|Link" href="/latest/pga-tour" target="_blank">PGA Tour</a> titles.</p><p>Yet, the elusive major championship has evaded him for a decade, a fact made more poignant by his recent close call at the US Open. "I think what the hard thing is in my position is your disappointments and your mistakes keep getting brought up to you every time that you get in front of a camera or you're in a press conference or answering questions," <a data-link-tracking="InArticle|Link" href="/latest/rory-mcilroy" target="_blank">McIlroy</a> shared in an interview with Sky Sports.</p><p>Nonetheless, the Northern Irishman recognizes the privilege of his career, stating, "At the same time, I am in a very fortunate position that this is what I get to do for a living.
