id="dnn_ctr387_ContentPane"><div id="dnn_ctr387_ModuleContent" class="DNNModuleContent ModDNNHTMLC"> <div id="dnn_ctr387_HtmlModule_lblContent" class="Normal"> <p>Events Industry Council launched the Certified Meeting Professional – Healthcare (CMP-HC) subspecialty in 2013 to respond to the need for event professionals in healthcare meeting management to have a way to distinguish themselves in the marketplace. Since all CMP-HCs must also hold a valid CMP certification, clients see the CMP-HC as the badge of excellence in healthcare meetings management. The CMP-HC credential is a subspeciality of the CMP and is designed to recognise those in the healthcare meetings industry that demonstrate the mastery of specific regulations, laws and best practices that must be followed when conducting a healthcare-focused meeting.</p> <h2>What are the candidate requirements for the CMP-HC exam?</h2> <p>As with most professional certifications, the eligibility requirements include both experience and education components.</p> <p>To sit for the CMP-HC exam, you must:</p> <ul> <li>Hold a valid and current CMP</li> <li>Have 3 years (36 months) of experience in healthcare meeting management</li> <li>Have 5 clock hours of professional development specifically related to healthcare meeting management (completed in the past 5 years)</li> <li>On the application, you will be required to provide proof of experience in the healthcare field. The 3 years do not have to be concurrent, but remember that the exam is based on current practices in the healthcare meeting industry; therefore, those with recent or current experience will most likely perform better on the exam.</li> <li>On the application, you will also be required to report 5 clock hours of professional development. To ensure that these activities are healthcare related, you will be required to report on the application to which of the three CMP-HC domains the activity is aligned.</li> </ul> <p>You may apply for the CMP-HC any time after obtaining your CMP credential.</p> <h2>CMP-HC fees</h2> <table border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1"> <tbody> <tr> <td><strong>Registration & Recertification</strong></td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td>Application Fee</td> <td>$155 USD</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Exam Fee</td> <td>$280 USD</td> </tr> <tr> <td>CMP-HC Recertification Fee</td> <td>$175 USD</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <h2>CMP-HC deadlines and testing windows</h2> <p>The CMP-HC is offered year-round at one of Prometric’s global testing centres or via remote proctoring.</p> <h2>CMP-HC recertification requirements</h2> <p>To maintain your CMP-HC, you must also maintain your CMP designation by recertifying every five years. Your CMP-HC recertification requirements are in addition to your CMP recertification requirements. After the first certification cycle, your CMP-HC and CMP cycles will sync so you only have to keep track of one date.</p> <p>To recertify the CMP-HC, you must complete 15 clock hours of continuing education activities specifically related to CMP-HC Standards. This is in addition to the clock hours you need for your CMP recertification. The CMP-HC clock hours will be prorated in the first certification cycle to sync with your CMP cycle.</p> <p><a name="CMPHCProration"></a>If you pass the CMP-HC in the following years of your CMP cycle you will need this many clock hours:</p> <ul> <li>First year of your CMP cycle: 15</li> <li>Second year of your CMP cycle: 12</li> <li>Third year of your CMP cycle: 9</li> <li>Fourth year of your CMP cycle: 6</li> <li>Fifth year of your CMP cycle: 3</li> </ul> <p>Unlike the CMP, Industry Support Activities do not apply for the CMP-HC recertification. To recertify your CMP-HC you will need either 40 clock hours (25 CMP and 15 CMP-HC) or 15 CMP clock hours, 15 CMP-HC clock hours and 3 CMP-related industry support activities.</p> <p>If your CMP expires, your CMP-HC will expire as well. You cannot hold the CMP-HC without the CMP.<br />  </p> <h2>How is the CMP-HC different from the CMP?</h2> <p>Anyone who works in the healthcare meeting field knows that there are specific regulations, laws and best practices that must be followed when conducting a healthcare-focused meeting. Only highly knowledgeable professionals can successfully manage the production of these meetings. Those who hold the CMP-HC designation have demonstrated this knowledge.</p> <h2>How is the CMP-HC different than other health-related credentials?</h2> <p>The CMP-HC and differs from the other healthcare "letters" you can pursue after your name. The CMP-HC is the only certification programme whereas many other professional development opportunities out there are assessment-based certificate programmes. </p> <p>The CMP (and the CMP-HC) recognises industry professionals who meet the established prerequisite education and experience requirements, and pass a rigorously comprehensive exam specifically designed to assure baselines competencies and to differentiate professionals. The CMP designation is awarded to recognise that achievement and CMPs continue to demonstrate their continued professional competency through continuing education and experience to maintain the credential.  That’s why the CMP continues to be recognised as the preeminent certification for the events industry. The CMP-HC builds on this body of knowledge through the same rigorous certification process (continuing education and experience, coupled with an exam and a strenuous renewal requirement). </p> <p>In an assessment-based certification programme, a professional’s capacity is increased through instruction and training. At the end of the training programme, the certificate is awarded to demonstrate mastery of the programme’s specific learning objectives at a <u>specific</u> moment in time. An assessment-based certificate is a great way to gain knowledge, but only the CMP-HC is a true mark of continued competency in healthcare meetings management. </p> <h2>What is the difference between a certification and a certificate?</h2> <p>People often ask, "What is the difference between certification and a certificate?" To help you understand and avoid confusion in the industry, we have listed a comparison below.*</p> <div> <div> <div> <h3>Certification</h3> <ul> <li>Results from an assessment process that recognises an individual's knowledge, skills and competency in a particular specialty</li> <li>Typically requires professional experience</li> <li>Awarded by a third-party, standard-setting organisation, typically not for profit</li> <li>Indicates mastery/competency as measured against a defensible set of standards, usually by application or exam</li> <li>Standards set through a defensible, industry-wide process (job analysis/role delineation) that results in an outline of required knowledge and skills</li> <li>Typically results in credentials to be listed after one's name (CMP, CMP-HC)</li> <li>Has on-going requirements in order to maintain; holder must demonstrate he/she continues to meet requirements</li> </ul> </div> <div> <h3>Certificate</h3> <ul> <li>Results from an educational process</li> <li>For newcomers and experienced professionals</li> <li>Awarded by educational programmes or institutions often for-profit</li> <li>Indicates completion of a course or series of courses with a specific focus (different than a degree-granting programme)</li> <li>Course content determined by the specific provider or institution, not standardised</li> <li>Usually listed on a resume detailing education</li> <li>Demonstrates knowledge of course content at the end of a set period of time</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> <p>*Some content adapted from Certified Fund Raising Executives International, <a href="http://www.cfre.org/" target="_blank">www.cfre.org</a></p> <h2>What will I be tested on?</h2> <p>Those working in the healthcare meeting arena or those who aspire to must possess the knowledge and skills outlined in the <a href="/Portals/0/EIC%20Documents/CMP%20Documents/cmp-hc-bok.pdf" target="_blank">CMP-HC Standards</a>. The Standards are also the body of knowledge on which the CMP-HC exam is based. Each knowledge statement in the sub-domain also includes a link to the CMP International Standards. All items on the certification exam tie back to the <a href="/Portals/0/EIC%20Documents/CMP%20Documents/cmp-hc-bok.pdf" target="_blank">CMP-HC Standards</a>.</p> <h2>CMP-HC recommended literature</h2> <p>The correct answers to all exam items are referenced to a reliable and reputable source. The healthcare meeting industry evolves quickly; therefore, the exam items must be constantly updated to ensure they represent current practices in the industry.</p> <p>Unlike the CMP exam, where there are recommended reading materials, the CMP-HC programme maintains a list of recommended literature that represents books, periodicals and other electronic and print resources identified by subject matter experts as representing authoritative and current information about the industry.</p> <p>This list is updated as changes take place in the healthcare meeting field, thus the recommended literature list should not be interpreted as required reading. The list directs candidates to resources they may find useful when preparing for the exam. It is ultimately the responsibility of healthcare meeting professionals to stay abreast of changes in this field.</p> <p>To access the recommended literature list, <a href="/Portals/0/EIC%20Documents/CMP%20Documents/recommended_literature_for_cmp-hc.pdf" target="_blank">click here</a>.</p> <p>We have also developed a <a href="/Portals/0/EIC%20Documents/CMP%20Documents/cmp-hc_glossary.pdf" target="_blank">CMP-HC Glossary of Terms</a> that are used in the healthcare meeting industry.</p> <h2>How was the CMP-HC exam developed?</h2> <p>The Events Industry Council follows strict certification development practices to create and maintain our certification programmes. These practices include many rounds of quality control measures to ensure that the CMP-HC certification represents current and best practices in the healthcare meetings industry. Events Industry Council recruited more than 100 volunteer subject matter experts working in the field to govern the programme and to create, review, test and set the passing score of the CMP-HC exam.</p> <p>The first panel of volunteers conducted a job analysis to identify the capabilities and expertise successful healthcare meeting professionals must have. The results of the job analysis study are the CMP-HC Standards. The Standards outline the knowledge needed to be a successful healthcare meeting professional. Once the Standards were created and validated by others in the industry, a second panel of subject matter experts were brought together to write the exam items (questions). The items were then reviewed by a third group of subject matter experts. The exam was beta tested to further analyse the performance of the items before the exam is officially launched. The results of the beta test were also used to decide the cut (passing) score of the exam.</p> <h2>How does the CMP-HC link to the CMP exam?</h2> <p>The CMP-HC does not replace the CMP. The CMP exam is based on the general body of knowledge needed to be a successful meeting professional and the CMP-HC exam is based entirely on the specialised knowledge required for healthcare-related meetings. Those seeking the CMP-HC certification must first pass the CMP to demonstrate they have mastered the knowledge outlined in the CMP International Standards. Those who pass the CMP-HC thus demonstrate an overall knowledge of the meeting management field and then the specific knowledge needed to manage healthcare-related meetings.</p> <h2>How is the CMP-HC exam structured?</h2> <p>The CMP-HC has 100 items: 85 items, which are scored, and 15 pre-test items, which are not scored. The exam is 2.5 hours and will be administered via computer-based testing (CBT) at Prometric testing facilities located throughout the world (check <a href="https://www.prometric.com/en-us/for-test-takers/pages/schedule.aspx?Type=schedule" target="_blank">Prometric’s website</a> for a list of testing center locations.)</p> <p>Once your application is approved (please allow 3-5 weeks for this review), you will be sent an email on how to pay the exam fee. Once your exam fee has been submitted, you will be sent instructions on how to schedule your exam.</p> <h2>How do I study for the CMP-HC exam?</h2> <p>Begin by reviewing the CMP-HC Standards. For the knowledge statement listed in each domain, decide your level of experience. Then structure your study regimen to concentrate on those areas for which you have the least experience. Like any other professional certification programme, there are no “teach-to-the-test” materials. Events Industry Council does not provide study guides or materials; however, we have a recommended literature List. This is a list of references the CMP-HC item writer and review panels used to develop the test questions. There won’t be any materials that will give you direct questions and answers. The CMP-HC exam, like the CMP exam, is designed for those who are already professionals in the field. The recommended literature simply provides best practices and also allows those who may be weak in certain areas of the body of knowledge to know how to concentrate their studying.</p> <h2>Where can I find continuing education clock hours?</h2> <p>There are a number of organisations that offer continuing education related to managing a healthcare meeting or event. You can find many of these offerings through the<a href="https://myaccount.eventscouncil.org/EventCalendar.aspx?selmenid=men2"> CMP Preferred Provider calendar</a>. Search terms such as “medical” or “healthcare.” You do not have to participate in Preferred Provider programmes to receive credit. As long as the subject matter of the activity aligns with one of the three domains in the CMP-HC Standards, you will receive credit.</p> </div> </div></div> </div> </div><div class="DnnModule
