for the LORD<MH3068> has called<MH7121> for a famine<MH7458>, and it will indeed<MH1571> come<MH935> on the land<MH776> for seven<MH7651> years<MH8141>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>So the woman<MH802> arose<MH6965> and acted<MH6213a> in accordance with the word<MH1697> of the man<MH376> of God<MH430>: she went<MH1980> with her household<MH1004> and resided<MH1481a> in the land<MH776> of the Philistines<MH6430> for seven<MH7651> years<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then at the end<MH7097a> of seven<MH7651> years<MH8141>, the woman<MH802> returned<MH7725> from the land<MH776> of the Philistines<MH6430>; and she went<MH3318> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>appeal<MH6817> to the king<MH4428> for her house<MH1004> and for her field<MH7704>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Now the king<MH4428> was speaking<MH1696> with Gehazi<MH1522>, the servant<MH5288> of the man<MH376> of God<MH430>, saying<MH559>, &#8220;Please<MH4994> report<MH5608> to me all<MH3605> the great<MH1419> things<MH1419> that Elisha<MH477> has done<MH6213a>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And as he was reporting<MH5608> to the king<MH4428> how<MH834> he had restored<MH2421a> to<MH2421a> life<MH2421a> the one who was dead<MH4191>, behold<MH2009>, the woman<MH802> whose<MH834> son<MH1121> he had restored<MH2421a> to<MH2421a> life<MH2421a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>appealed<MH6817> to the king<MH4428> for her house<MH1004> and for her field<MH7704>. And Gehazi<MH1522> said<MH559>, &#8220;My lord<MH113> the king<MH4428>, this<MH2088> is the woman<MH802> and this<MH2088> is her son<MH1121>, whom<MH834> Elisha<MH477> restored<MH2421a> to<MH2421a> life<MH2421a>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>When the king<MH4428> asked<MH7592> the woman<MH802>, she told<MH5608> <i>everything</i> to him. So the king<MH4428> appointed<MH5414> an officer<MH5631> for her, saying<MH559>, &#8220;Restore<MH7725> all<MH3605> that was hers and all<MH3605> the produce<MH8393> of the field<MH7704> from the day<MH3117> that she left<MH5800a> the land<MH776> even until<MH5704> now<MH6258>.&#8221; <p class="hdg">Elisha Predicts Evil from Hazael</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then Elisha<MH477> came<MH935> to Damascus<MH1834>. Now Ben-hadad<MH1130>, the king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758>, was<MH2470a> sick<MH2470a>, and it was told<MH5046> to him, saying<MH559>, &#8220;The man<MH376> of God<MH430> has come<MH935> here<MH5704, 2008>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And the king<MH4428> said<MH559> to Hazael<MH2371>, &#8220;Take<MH3947> a gift<MH4503> in your hand<MH3027> and go<MH1980> to meet<MH7122> the man<MH376> of God<MH430>, and inquire<MH1875> of the LORD<MH3068> by him, saying<MH559>, &#8216;Will I recover<MH2421a> from this<MH2088> sickness<MH2483>?&#8217;&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>So Hazael<MH2371> went<MH1980> to meet<MH7122> him and took<MH3947> a gift<MH4503> in his hand<MH3027>, even every<MH3605> kind of good<MH2898> thing<MH2898> of Damascus<MH1834>, forty<MH705> camels&#8217;<MH1581> loads<MH4853a>; and he came<MH935> and stood<MH5975> before<MH6440> him and said<MH559>, &#8220;Your son<MH1121> Ben-hadad<MH1130> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> has sent<MH7971> me to you, saying<MH559>, &#8216;Will I recover<MH2421a> from this<MH2088> sickness<MH2483>?&#8217;&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then Elisha<MH477> said<MH559> to him, &#8220;Go<MH1980>, say<MH559> to him, &#8216;You will certainly<MH2421a> recover<MH2421a>&#8217;; but the LORD<MH3068> has shown<MH7200> me that he will certainly<MH4191> die<MH4191>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>stared<MH5975, 6440> steadily<MH7760> <i>at him</i> until<MH5704> <i>Hazael</i> was<MH954> embarrassed<MH954>, and <i>then</i> the man<MH376> of God<MH430> wept<MH1058>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And Hazael<MH2371> said<MH559>, &#8220;Why<MH4069> is my lord<MH113> weeping<MH1058>?&#8221; And he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>answered<MH559>, &#8220;Because<MH3588> I know<MH3045> the evil<MH7463a> that you will do<MH6213a> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>: you will set<MH7971> their fortified<MH4013> cities<MH4013> on fire<MH784>, you will kill<MH2026> their young<MH970> men<MH970> with the sword<MH2719>, their little<MH5768> ones<MH5768> you will smash<MH7376> to<MH7376> pieces<MH7376>, and you will rip<MH1234> up<MH1234> their pregnant<MH2030> women<MH2030>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then Hazael<MH2371> said<MH559>, &#8220;But what<MH4100> is your servant<MH5650>&#8212;a <i>lowly</i> dog<MH3611>&#8212;that he could do<MH6213a> this<MH2088> great<MH1419> thing<MH1697>?&#8221; And Elisha<MH477> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>answered<MH559>, &#8220;The LORD<MH3068> has shown<MH7200> me that you <i>will be</i> king<MH4428> over<MH5921> Aram<MH758>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So he left<MH1980, 4480> Elisha<MH477> and came<MH935> to his master<MH113>, who said<MH559> to him, &#8220;What<MH4100> did Elisha<MH477> say<MH559> to you?&#8221; And he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>answered<MH559>, &#8220;He told<MH559> me that you would certainly<MH2421a> recover<MH2421a>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But on the following<MH4283> day<MH4283>, he took<MH3947> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>cover<MH4345> and dipped<MH2881> it in water<MH4325>, and spread<MH6566> it over<MH5921> his face<MH6440>, so that he died<MH4191>. And Hazael<MH2371> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <p class="hdg">Another Jehoram Reigns in Judah</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Now in the fifth<MH2568> year<MH8141> of Joram<MH3141> the son<MH1121> of Ahab<MH256> king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>, when Jehoshaphat<MH3092> was the king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, Jehoram<MH3088> the son<MH1121> of Jehoshaphat<MH3092> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>He was thirty-two<MH7970, 8147> years<MH8141> old<MH1121> when he became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a>, and he reigned<MH4427a> for eight<MH8083> years<MH8141> in Jerusalem<MH3389>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>He walked<MH1980> in the way<MH1870> of the kings<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256> had done<MH6213a>, for Ahab&#8217;s<MH256> daughter<MH1323> was<MH1961> his wife<MH802>; and he did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>However, the LORD<MH3068> did not want<MH14> to destroy<MH7843> Judah<MH3063>, for the sake<MH4616> of David<MH1732> His servant<MH5650>, since<MH3512c> He had <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>promised<MH559> him to give<MH5414> him a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>lamp<MH5215a> through his sons<MH1121> always<MH3605, 3117>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>In his days<MH3117> Edom<MH112b> broke<MH6586> away<MH6586> from the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>rule<MH3027> of Judah<MH3063>, and appointed<MH4427a> a king<MH4428> over<MH5921> themselves. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then Joram<MH3141> crossed<MH5674a> over<MH5674a> to Zair<MH6811>, and all<MH3605> his chariots<MH7393> with him. And he got<MH6965> up<MH6965> at night<MH3915> and struck<MH5221> the Edomites<MH112b> who had surrounded<MH5437> him and the captains<MH8269> of the chariots<MH7393>; but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>his army<MH5971a> fled<MH5127> to their tents<MH168>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>So Edom<MH112b> has broken<MH6586> away<MH6586> from<MH6586> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Judah<MH3063> to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>. Then<MH227> Libnah<MH3841> broke<MH6586> away<MH6586> at the same<MH1931> time<MH6256>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Now the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Joram<MH3141> and everything<MH3605> that he did<MH6213a>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>? <p class="hdg">Ahaziah Succeeds Jehoram in Judah</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So Joram<MH3141> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>lay<MH7901> down<MH7901> with his fathers<MH1> and was buried<MH6912> with his fathers<MH1> in the city<MH5892b> of David<MH1732>; and his son<MH1121> Ahaziah<MH274> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>In the twelfth<MH8147, 6240> year<MH8141> of Joram<MH3141> the son<MH1121> of Ahab<MH256> king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>, Ahaziah<MH274> the son<MH1121> of Jehoram<MH3088> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> began to reign<MH4427a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Ahaziah<MH274> <i>was</i> twenty-two<MH6242, 8147> years<MH8141> old<MH1121> when he became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a>, and he reigned<MH4427a> for one<MH259> year<MH8141> in Jerusalem<MH3389>. And his mother&#8217;s<MH517> name<MH8034> <i>was</i> Athaliah<MH6271> the granddaughter<MH1323> of Omri<MH6018> king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>He walked<MH1980> in the way<MH1870> of the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256> and did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, like the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256>, because<MH3588> he was a son-in-law<MH2860a> of the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then he went<MH1980> with Joram<MH3141> the son<MH1121> of Ahab<MH256> to war<MH4421> against<MH5973> Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> at Ramoth-gilead<MH7433>, and the Arameans<MH761> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>wounded<MH5221> Joram<MH3141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/8-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>So King<MH4428> Joram<MH3141> returned<MH7725> to have himself healed<MH7495> in Jezreel<MH3157> of the wounds<MH4347> which<MH834> the Arameans<MH761> had <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>inflicted<MH5221> on him at Ramah<MH7414> when he fought<MH3898a> against<MH854> Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758>.
