Das STS Department, integriert in die TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, ist die neue akademische Heimat für die bisherigen 70+ Forschenden des Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS), sowie einige neue STS-Berufungen in den kommenden drei Jahren. Das Department erweitert die institutionelle Vorarbeit die durch das MCTS seit 2012 gelegt wurde, und stellt gesellschaftliche Aspekte gleichermaßen ins Zentrum von Innovation und einer technischen Universität.</p> <p class="align-justify">Das STS Department widmet sich dem Verständnis ethischer, sozialer, politischer und rechtlicher Dimensionen von Wissenschaft und Technologie. Durch sozialwissenschaftliche Forschung, Lehre und Dialog arbeiten wir als Teil der TUM-Innovation Community an neuen Ansätzen für verantwortungsvolle, nachhaltige und gesellschaftsorientierte Wissenschaft und Innovation — oft mit Partnern aus technischen Feldern. Die TUM STS-Forschung strebt einerseits danach, die kritischen intellektuellen und praktischen Ressourcen bereitzustellen, um die vielfältigen Herausforderungen in Hochtechnologie-Gesellschaften zu bewältigen. Andererseits wollen wir zukünftige Führungskräfte mit einer speziellen Sensibilität für die komplexe Schnittstelle zwischen Wissenschaft, Technologie und Gesellschaft ausrüsten. Als eines der größten europäischen STS-Zentren unterhält das Department enge Partnerschaften zu anderen TUM-Einrichtungen (beispielsweise im Bereich <a href="https://www.mcube-cluster.de/en/" target="_top">Zukunft der Mobilität</a>, <a href="https://www.msrm.tum.de/en/rsi/research/research-projects/responsible-robotics/" target="_top">verantwortungsvoller Robotik</a> und <a
