!important">Title: Not in the right environment to innovate and commercializeyour research? MOVE ! I did and now my breakthroughs are in 30,000 patients!</p> <p class="text-justify" style="margin-bottom: 15px !important;padding-right: 0px; !important">Without a doubt, recent advances in biomaterials have revolutionized medicine. But, how did this occur ? Was your research part of these advancements ? Have we innovated and commercialized enough ? While some of these wonderful research advances have made it to the market helping real people, many have not. Are we doing enough to translate biomaterials research into real products ? Are companies not paying attention to this wonderful research ? Are Universities not doing enough to help you ? Is your research being licensedto larger companies to make products that help society? Starting new companies ? What about federal funding agencies ? Are they supporting your commercialization efforts ?And, most importantly, are you in the right environment to innovate and commercialize your research ? </strong></p> <p class="text-justify" style="margin-bottom: 15px !important;padding-right: 0px; !important">Well in my own experience, above all else, it takes a supportive environment. We all have great ideas. But, it takes more than that. It takes a supportive community to translate lab research into commercial products. It takes determination and fortitude to see it through. You need to surround yourself with the right people – and if you are currently not around a supportive optimistic environment, leave ! Leave that negative, ultra-competitive University you are at - I did !Leave that company that is stifling your advances. Attend the right conferences, not those super competitive conferences where the same people give the same talks, and put your work down !</p> <p class="text-justify" style="margin-bottom: 15px !important;padding-right: 0px; !important">Once I found a truly supportive environment just 4 years ago, I was able to not only start numerous companies, but commercialize my biomaterials research into medical devices now in over 30,000 patients with no failures, only success. No infection. No chronic inflammation. No implant loosening. No failures. Period.It just took courage to leave a University which did not care about my research and colleagues who only pushed their own research, constantly putting others (and me) down. Negativity everywhere !Once I found the right environment, everything else moved very quickly – including FDA approval and my biomaterial research advances in patients in just 4 years !</p> <p class="text-justify" style="margin-bottom: 15px !important;padding-right: 0px; !important">So I encourage everyone to find that right environment. Attend the right conferences: BIOMATFORUM2025 at the heart of innovation and commercialization ! Meet the right people ! Chigrinov is Professor of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since 1999. He is an author of 6 books, 31 reviews and book chapters, about 333 journal papers, more than 718 Conference presentations, and 121 patents and patent applications including 50 US patents in the field of liquid crystals since 1974. He got Excellent Research Award of HKUST School of Engineering in 2012. He obtained Gold Medal and The Best Award in the Invention & Innovation Awards 2014 held at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2014, which was hosted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 20-22 Feb 2014. He is a Member of EU Academy of Sciences (EUAS) since July 2017. He got A Slottow Owaki Prize of SID in 2018 http://www.ee.ust.hk/ece.php/enews/detail/660. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Machine Building Technology (1994) from the University of Craiova, Romania. I received my Ph.D. in the Technology of Materials field from the University of Craiova, Romania, in 1998. Also, I obtained another undergraduate degree in Finance and Assurance, at Constantin Brancusi University of Targu Jiu, Romania (2004). In the year 2013, I supported the habilitation thesis at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest in the Industrial Engineering domain. I was promoted to Full Professor in 2007. I have published over 137 scientific articles, among which over 84 in international journals indexed Web of Science. I am a reviewer for 52 Web of Science indexed journals (Journal of Cleaner Production, Materials, Polymers, etc.), 55 of which are rated Q1. I am the author of 32 books, one of which is published by the international publishing house LAMBERT. He held a two-year (1987-1988) post-doc position with Bell Communications Research – New Jersey, USA, and received his Doctoral degree in Solid State Physics (1986) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais – Brazil. He graduated in both Chemistry (1976) and Physics (1977) at UnB. Professor Morais is a member of the Brazilian Physical Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers – IEEE. He has served as a referee for more than 50 technical journals, takes part of the Editorial Board of more than 15 technical journals, and has conducted research on nanomaterials for over 40 years. He has delivered 170 Invited Talks all over the World. He studied at Surrey University, Guildford, UK, as a post doctoral research scientist in 1986-1987, and his studies focused on shape memory alloys. He worked as research assistant, 1975-80, at Dicle University and shifted to Firat University in 1980. He became professor in 1996, and he has been retired due to the age limit of 67, following academic life of 45 years. He published over 80 papers in international and national journals; He joined over 120 conferences and symposia in international and national level as Plenary Speaker, Keynote Speaker, Invited speaker, speaker or Poster presenter. He served the program chair or conference chair/co-chair in some of these activities. In particular, he joined in last six years (2014 - 2019) over 60 conferences as Speaker, Keynote Speaker and Conference Co-Chair organized by different companies in different countries. Additionally, he retired at the end of November 2019, and contributed with Keynote/Plenary Speeches over 180 Virtual/Webinar Conferences, in the coronavirus outbreak in four year of his retirement, 2020 and 2023. Dr. Adiguzel served his directorate of Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Firat University in 1999-2004. He supervised 5 PhD- theses and 3 M. Sc theses. He has served as a professor at Purdue (2000-2005), Brown (2005-2012), and Northeastern (2012-2021; serving as Chemical Engineering Department Chair from 2012 - 2019) Universities and has formed over a dozen companies who have numerous FDA approved medical products currently improving human health in over 30,000 patients. His technology is also being used in commercial products to improve sustainability and renewable energy. He is currently helping those companies and serves as a professor at Brown University, Saveetha University, Hebei University of Technology, UFPI, and others.
