But secured data communication over internet and any other network is always under threat of intrusions and misuses. So Intrusion Detection Systems have become a needful component in terms of computer and network security. There are various approaches being utilized in intrusion detections, but unfortunately any of the systems so far is not completely flawless. So, the quest of betterment continues. In this progression, here we present an Intrusion Detection System (IDS), by applying genetic algorithm (GA) to efficiently detect various types of network intrusions. Parameters and evolution processes for GA are discussed in details and implemented. This approach uses evolution theory to information evolution in order to filter the traffic data and thus reduce the complexity. To implement and measure the performance of our system we used the KDD99 benchmark dataset and obtained reasonable detection rate.

2. An Overview of the Security Concerns in Enterprise Cloud Computing

Anthony Bisong, Syed (Shawon) M. Successful implementation of cloud computing in an enterprise requires proper planning and understanding of emerging risks, threats, vulnerabilities, and possible countermeasures. We believe enterprise should analyze the company/organization security risks, threats, and available countermeasures before adopting this technology. In this paper, we have discussed security risks and concerns in cloud computing and enlightened steps that an enterprise can take to reduce security risks and protect their resources. We have also explained cloud computing strengths/benefits, weaknesses, and applicable areas in information risk management.

3. Analysis of Web Logs and Web User in Web Mining

L.K. The log files are maintained by the web servers. By analysing these log files gives a neat idea about the user. This paper gives a detailed discussion about these log files, their formats, their creation, access procedures, their uses, various algorithms used and the additional parameters that can be used in the log files which in turn gives way to an effective mining. It also provides the idea of creating an extended log file and learning the user behaviour.

4. DDos Attack and Defense Scheme in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

S.A.Arunmozhi, Y.Venkataramani
May 2011 | Cited by 32

The wireless ad hoc networks are highly vulnerable to distributed denial of service (Ddos) attacks because of its unique characteristics such as open network architecture, shared wireless medium and stringent resource constraints. These attacks throttle the tcp throughput heavily and reduce the quality of service (QoS) to end systems gradually rather than refusing the clients from the services completely. In this paper, we discussed the DDoS attacks and proposed a defense scheme to improve the performance of the ad hoc networks. Our proposed defense mechanism uses the medium access control (MAC) layer information to detect the attackers. The status values from MAC layer that can be used for detection are Frequency of receiving RTS/CTS packets, Frequency of sensing a busy channel and the number of RTS/DATA retransmissions. Once the attackers are identified, all the packets from those nodes will be blocked. The network resources are made available to the legitimate users. We perform the simulation with Network Simulator NS2 and we proved that our proposed system improves the network performance.

5. Cloud Computing and Security Issues In the Cloud

Monjur Ahmed, Mohammad Ashraf Hossain
January 2014 | Cited by 22

Cloud computing has formed the conceptual and infrastructural basis for tomorrow's computing. The Global computing infrastructure is rapidly moving towards cloud based architecture. While it is important to take advantages of could based computing by means of deploying it in diversified sectors, the security aspects in a cloud based computing environment remains at the core of interest. Cloud based services and service providers are being evolved which has resulted in a new business trend based on cloud technology. With the introduction of numerous clouds based services and geographically dispersed cloud service providers, sensitive information of different entities are normally stored in remote servers and locations with the possibilities of being exposed to unwanted parties in situations where the cloud servers storing those information are compromised. If security is not robust and consistent, the flexibility and advantages that cloud computing has to offer will have little credibility. This paper presents a review on the cloud computing concepts as well as security issues inherent within the context of cloud computing and cloud infrastructure.

6. Wavelet Thresholding Approach for Image Denoising

Pankaj Hedaoo, Swati S Godbole
July 2011 | Cited by 19

The original image corrupted by Gaussian noise is a long established problem in signal or image processing .This noise is removed by using wavelet thresholding by focused on statistical modelling of wavelet coefficients and the optimal choice of thresholds called as image denoising. For the first part, threshold is driven in a Bayesian technique to use probabilistic model of the image wavelet coefficients that are dependent on the higher order moments of generalized Gaussian distribution (GGD) in image processing applications. The proposed threshold is very simple. Experimental results show that the proposed method is called BayesShrink, is typically within 5% of the MSE of the best soft-thresholding benchmark with the image. It outperforms Donoho and Johnston Sure Shrink. The second part of the paper is attempt to claim on lossy compression can be used for image denoising .thus achieving the image compression & image denoising simultaneously. The parameter is choosing based on a criterion derived from Rissanen's minimum description length (MDL) principle. Experiments show that this compression & denoise method does indeed remove noise significantly, especially for large noise power.

7. Image Encryption Based On Diffusion and Multiple Chaotic Maps

G.A.Sathishkumar, K.Bhoopathy bagan and N.Sriraam
March 2011 | Cited by 19

In the recent world, security is a prime important issue, and encryption is one of the best alternative way to ensure security. Moreover, there are many image encryption schemes have been proposed, each one of them has its own strength and weakness. This paper presents a new algorithm for the image encryption/decryption scheme. This paper is devoted to provide a secured image encryption technique using multiple chaotic based circular mapping. In this paper, first, a pair of sub keys is given by using chaotic logistic maps. Second, the image is encrypted using logistic map sub key and in its transformation leads to diffusion process. Third, sub keys are generated by four different chaotic maps. Based on the initial conditions, each map may produce various random numbers from various orbits of the maps. Among those random numbers, a particular number and from a particular orbit are selected as a key for the encryption algorithm. Based on the key, a binary sequence is generated to control the encryption algorithm. The input image of 2-D is transformed into a 1- D array by using two different scanning pattern (raster and Zigzag) and then divided into various sub blocks. Then the position permutation and value permutation is applied to each binary matrix based on multiple chaos maps. Finally the receiver uses the same sub keys to decrypt the encrypted images. The salient features of the proposed image encryption method are loss-less, good peak signal - to noise ratio (PSNR), Symmetric key encryption, less cross correlation, very large number of secret keys and key-dependent pixel value replacement.

8. Efficient Detection of Sybil Attack Based On Cryptography in Vanet

Mina Rahbari, Mohammad Ali Jabreil Jamali
November 2011 | Cited by 18

Vehicular communications play a substantial role in providing safety transportation by means of safety message exchange. The first approach uses the theme of missing letter puzzle where each character of message is hidden by missing one or more letters in a word of cover. The average Jaro score was found to be 0.95 indicating closer similarity between cover and stego file. The second approach hides a message in a wordlist where ASCII value of embedded character determines length and starting letter of a word. The third approach conceals a message, without degrading cover, by using start and end letter of words of the cover. For enhancing the security of secret message, the message is scrambled using one-time pad scheme before being concealed and cipher text is then concealed in cover. We also present an empirical comparison of the proposed approaches with some of the popular text steganographic approaches and show that our approaches outperform the existing approaches.

Home

Ethics

Current Issue

Submission

Most Cited Articles

Archives

Special Issue

Download leaflet

FAQ

漏 2013 AIRCC Publishing Corporation
